How so? Doesn't look yellow to me. Even compared it to other phones at the store that were piss yellow.

He means you posted a screen shot which just copies the pixel values out of the framebuffer. It can't show the problem because the problem would exist in the LCD screen that translates the framebuffer data into light. You need to take a picture of the physical phone as it is displaying an image.

Ok i'll try to do it later. Just thought that it would show in the screenshot

Maybe you guys can tell from this picture.

On these pics I can see some warmer tint, but may be not yellow hue. Not bluish cool screen for sure.

Both my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 have a cool screen colour temperature. I had no idea, until I turned on my new iPhone 4S yesterday, and found that it had a warm temperature. I definitely think that a warm temp is a lot more natural and I prefer it.

My 4S is definitely warmer in tone than every 4S at my local Apple store: they all have the bluish cast. I felt that I could discern color differences on the Macrumors forums site on mine better than the display models. Unfortunately, when I compared mine to every 4S in the store, mine also has a darker section on the bottom quarter inch of the screen all the way across (I had cleaned my screen, so it wasn't fingerswipe prints). It was quite noticeable in comparison, so it looks like it's time for an exchange.

Yea may not be bluish which is fine. I'm just happy I didn't get the really yellow screen.

Yeah, those screens look acceptable to me. May not be "blue" but they are white/neutral. I would not mind having it. Mine is the same way.

The ones you have to worry about are the piss yellow/brownish colored screens.

Yea my first 4S screen was fine aswell but had to get it replaced for another issue. Just really glad I didn't have to go through multiple replacements for yellow screens.

I guess I got lucky with this iPhone.
Yes you did.

This year more than ever buying an iPhone is a crap shoot. One has to get lucky in order to buy one that lives up to the Apple standard of the past, when iPhone quality was better & far more consistent.

They way it's going I tend to believe Apple has determined just how much the customer will put up with and builds to that standard instead of their own.

It's a clever if not nefarious strategy. One that has paid off handsomely. As a shareholder I celebrate the massive profits, as a user I cringe.

Just think of the incredibly awesome iPhone Apple could build if they wanted to. It would crush the competition like no other.

Look at the massive success they enjoy with a mediocre phone, they'd really set the bar high if they built what they're capable of.

Yellow 4s screen here... Bought on release day. It looks very yellow compared to my wifes 4.

I prefer the cool look! I will change it next time i am near an Apple store.

C3 - Got it last weekend. My second 4S. First one had a home button that was not center and would turn. Screen was washed out a bit too. This new one is fine. Just a bit off from my 4. My 4 has really deep blacks. This one is close but not the same. Still acceptable though :)

Again, these phones are great but the screen seems to be dependent on ambient light. If you're in bright, outdoor light, screen looks perfect, crisp, delicious. Indoor light, CFL, incandescent, may look yellow, red, green, washed out even when it's not. Just keep that in mind.

Yeah, had to do that once. Never again. Almost gave up on iPhone because of it.

If you got an iPhone without a yellow tinted display, congratulations but its still luck of the draw. It starts when a batch of displays from a quality manufacture (and not some from another supplier) arrives at one of many iPhone assembly plants, and ends when whomever just so happens to grab a particular iPhone off the shelf and hand it to you. That's not to mention all the random shuffling that can take place during warehousing and shipping, or the randomness of shoppers ahead of you. As long as there are multiple suppliers for their displays, there will always be multiple variations in display quality and user experience from one unit to the next.

My white 4s looks way more natural than by black 4s but I need to get it replaced at the genius bar because it is having some issues. I'm still holding off because I'm scared to get a yellow screen. You can really notice the difference when you get one and it makes it less enjoyable to use.

My wife's iphone 4S has a slight cool tint, My iPhone 4S has a slight pink tint, my mom's iPhone 4 seems just nice, while my dad's iPhone 4 has a slight yellow tint. For all intent and purpose it is barely noticeable unless we have them in a row. :D

Thats the thing that bothers me most with the 4S, the yellower screen compared to my 4 (which already had a yellowish screen compared to the 3GS) makes the screen have a washed out feeling when looking at the same photograph on both screens (yay photo stream for easier comparisons). Purples & pinks for instance are stronger on the 4 than the 4S, the blue on the UI bars is more blue on the 4.

The comparison of my original 4S (not the recent replacement) with the 2G, 3GS and 4. FACE ON:

This coupled with the 4S camera which while great, slightly under exposes shots giving them a slightly washed out look as well. It means when you are looking at the screen to take the photo you really don't see the colours you do in real life.

These belong in a different thread but what I mean. The wood in the 4's photo is like a saw, the 4S's wasn't and when looked at on a yellower screen looks even more washed out. (This is iPhone 4.jpg and iPhone 4S.jpg)

Similar thing with the other two photos of my beside table & wires top on the clothes drier. 4 is closer to real, though too bright while the 4S's photo is quite muted. (All 4 photos without the flash)

I have a 16GB and a 32GB,

16GB on Left, 32GB on the right, hard to see a diff on photo but in person there is a noticeable difference, the 32GB seems brighter but to me its a bit less contrast and colours seem slightly more washed out compared to my 16GB.

How does it look?

That's what my original 4S looked like on the right. Was horrible. It was as if the screen was smeared and there was nothing I could do to "clean it off". My 4 looks exactly like the one on the left. My new 4S is nearly the same as the one on the left. It is a bit warmer though but not cloudy or washed out like one on the right (like my original 4S).

Anyone that can't see that difference, really needs glasses. It's horrible and honestly, kills the iPhone experience and the whole "retina" thing. Why bother at that point?

I'd concur with that, the right looks less contrasty (like the sun symbol on the right compared to the left).

Which do you prefer?
I'm mixed on this, the less contrast does make things appear brighter when say screen is set to 50% mode.

But overall I think I prefer my 16GB screen as everything just "pops" a bit more which is what the retina display is all about IMO.

I'm debating whether to get another 32GB, would apple replace it on the spot?

Fully agreed but how many exchanges does one need to go through to get a good one?

I'm on my second so far (exchanged for a different problem) and it looks the same as the first one. Completely different serial numbers (DN for first C3 for second). There have been posts by some saying they got a good one immediately, others who still have yellower screens after 4-5 exchanges.

I would say that my white 4S screen is neutral. My old white 4 had a yellowish tint to it, which I didn't really mind unless I looked at my wife's black 4, which has a really cool hue to it. My new 4S isn't as cool as my wife's, but cooler than my old 4. I'm very happy with it.
