Same thing happened with my iPad 2...I believe they manufacture/sell these things so fast the glue doesn't have time to finish curing before you open it. My iPad 2 isn't yellow (or at least "as yellow as it was") anymore. I dunno if it's the same issue, but it would be odd coincidence.

I just thought it was because I was used to a black phone around the screen...

4S on left (still not activated since 10am!), 4 on right.

4S is def warmer compared to my 4.

It's just panel variance. My iPhone 4 is quite a bit whiter (bluer) than my wife's iPhone 4. Same thing with the iPad, my couple of MacBook Airs, etc. The problem is the original thread starter hasn't compared his new iPhone 4S to OTHER people's iPhone 4s (not S).

This happens every time there's a new phone/device!

I instantly noticed the yellow tint on the 4s (vs the 4)...on three different phones in fact. The three old (iphone4) phones I'm looking at are spot on IMO.

I don't plan on taking it back or anything...just saying that the people posting about it aren't just making it up.

Nice comparison, thanks for posting. I'd say the phone on the right is definitely the purer white. This is the IP4? I just wish they'd make them all the same then there'd be nothing to compare.

Return? Exchange?

Hi

I had the black iphone 4 and compared to the white iphone 4 the white one had a yellow tint to it on the screen, did an exchange a few days later and got the same problem with a new one, now with the. New iphone 4S the white model is actually a lot yellowish compared to the white iphone 4 i had before it.

Have you tried to get it replaced

Oh boy, apple is still sending yellow tinted screens out? :( i had a nightmare on the i4 having to go through 4 refurbs before i got a screen that was normal. only slight warm temp with white whites, and accurate color and black levels. looks like im staying with my 4 for a while.

This can certainly be fixed via software. Unless Apple did this intentionally they can get it cooler easily.

No, they can't. You can't release a "universal color fixer" or whatever you'd like to call it. There's a reason why colorimeters exist. EVERY panel is different, and each needs to be calibrated individually.

My 4S screen is DEFINITELY yellow compared to my 4. I honestly don't know if this is universal or whether it's something I should be worried about. The 4 seems crisp by comparison but maybe that could be due to how I'm used to it...

its two things

a) the glue that is used has a yellow hue but will dry clear

b) the White LED's tend to have a slight yellow hue at first

in time these will go up in kelvin = more white
same thing happened when the iphone 4 came out
When i had my iphone 4 replaced the screen was def more yellow but after a few weeks its perfectly white

in other words don't worry about it

If this is true (need more opinions), do you think turning up the brightness higher will hasten this change?

This is just the tint of Apples displays now. Even all the new/replacement iPhone 4s have it.

Keep returning your 4S and you will just get more yellowed ones.

The This is my Next review said the screen actually looked a little bit greener. I don't know about that but it definitely looks more washed out.

Pic for comparison (top = ip4S)

Here's another pic. The variance is negligible.

These are the issue i'm having. Slightly washed with a green tinge. Is it certain the white ones have inferior screens?

Any time any new apple product comes out we always get yellow screen threads.

Color temperature can vary from cool looking blue to a warm color. Normally you can't tell the difference till you put two different screens right next to each other.

Maybe you can't tell. To my eye it's very obvious!

It's not a white vs. black issue. It's a IPhone 4 vs. 4s issue. The pics in the article above are two different phones (not just two different colors).

My new 4s is also much "warmer" than my 4. It bugged me for a few hours, but now not so much. I think I just have the old screen stuck in my mind after looking at it for 18 months.

I actually posted a thread saying the screen looked brighter...but now I can see it is more warmer then bright. I also seem to have a yellow blotch that forms on the top right of the screen when it got hot....it goes away when it cools down though....are all iPhone4S like this...if so this cOuld be normal for the new displays....

I have the same issue with the yellow spot on the upper right of the screen. I'm assuming it's the glue thing like with the iPhone 4... Hopefully it goes away within a few days

There is a large variation in displays. Some will have some color tint, some will be brighter than others, some will have deeper blacks. You get 3 different phones and they will all be different.

It seems like Most people with a 4S have warmer screens.

Just had my phone swapped out for an unrelated issue and the screen on the new phone is pretty much the same. I think its just a switch in manufacturers/calibration since original iPhone 4 launch. I've also gotten used to it now.
