My 4s actually seems a lot colder than my white iP4. Was expecting the same yellow tint as I was used to but it was quite frosty!! My dad's one though still seems more yellow. I guess it's 'luck of the draw'.. depends on what you like I guess, I don't mind either.

Judging by the photos, I actually prefer the iPhone 4S's screen. Instead of calling it "more yellow" it is a more warm push in my eyes with the iPhone 4 with a cold push to it.

I'm heavily into calibrating high end HDTVs and with showing more vivid colors and wider color spectrum, I prefer the warm push instead of the cold (which both can be calibrated on the HDTV). Also not a big fan of the neutral push either.

My 4 has a bluer tent and the 4s yellow but the 4s seems to have better contrast. Im impartial because I love blue but like the better contrast and warmer screen on the 4s

I haven't received my phone yet and after reading a few of these posts I became concerned. My iPhone 4 display seems to display colors well and could probably be characterized as 'cool'. Today I went to the Apple store and compared my display with a 4S floor model and was relieved to find that the 4S I tested was not only brighter but more neutral. It looked fantastic and was definitely not yellow. Hope mine will be similar.

Ive got the white 4s, and while I don't have any yellow screen issues, the screen uniformity on mine is uneven. When I've got a white screen, there is about a 1/4 inch thick line running across the middle of the screen that is whiter than the rest of the screen. Not noticeable when dark colors are on the screen, but I do notice it while scrolling on light colored websites and forum apps. None of my other Apple devices has this issue. Gonna take it to the Apple store for an exchange next week.

Mine has definite yellow tint in comparison to 4 which looked perfect imo, do I have unconditional return for 10 days or so and than I can just reorder?

mine is similar. i have the top 20% looking slightly darker, cloudier, yellower than the middle section, and less so, the bottom section.

i asked an employee at apple store if she saw it too, and she said she did. she told me to make an appt for the genius bar and exchange. she said if it bothered me to switch it out, as they wanted to make me happy. this has happened before with ipad 1, so i hope they don't give me grief.

Problem is all current 4S (and later iterations of iPhone 4) have this so you'll likely be swapping like for like. This is the calibration Apple has switched to recently; make the screen warmer. We may have iBooks to thank for it.

I was at the local Apple Store today which of course was amazingly busy, yet they still have a slew of phones (everything except white 16GB AT&T). Anyway I just wanted to compare screens.

Man I wish I could've brought in my good camera to take some pics. The screens on the floor model 4S phones had color temperatures all over the map. Some were really warm (yellowish), some were amazingly cool (blueish). In the four or five I looked at no two looked even close to the same.

Nice comparison, thanks for posting. I'd say the phone on the right is definitely the purer white. This is the IP4? I just wish they'd make them all the same then there'd be nothing to compare.

Yes the one on the right is my 32GB black IP4. The left is my 64GB black IP4S.

any uniformity issues on either? IE does one have areas that are darker/lighter, uneven?

Warmer white. 6400k. Is actually industry standard

I went to Apple by me and most of the 4S have a warmer tone...while the iPhone 4 has a cooler tone....some variance within the 4S's....so it's probably now they were all calibrated...or maybe because they are new?

Are all the 4S screens yellow tinted? I know with the IP4, some were blue, some were yellow. Have they fully switched to the yellow now?

Well I had 2 and both were yellower than my 4. Apple says that's perfectly fine, but who the hell likes a yellower tint? I sure don't.

If this is true (need more opinions), do you think turning up the brightness higher will hasten this change?

i imagine leaving your phone on + disabling autolock would speed the process up, but what's the point. If your phone is normal the best thing is to stop having OCD about it and enjoy your new phone

I don't think this is the problem. The screens are just generally warmer.

The problem with the glue last year was there was a random yellow spot on the screen like this:

iphone-4-yellow-spot.jpg
Like I said its two things that could potentially be causing yellowing

a) glue that is not yet dried = yellow blotches

b)LED's that have yet to warm up properly

I guarantee you that everyone complaining that their iPhone 4 was too yellow when it came out has by now shut up about it. In other words this is the exact same thing that people complained about when the iPhone 4 came out, but its a normal phenomenon that will go away on its own.

No. Small yellow blotches is something COMPLETELY different. There's no way you're screen's color temperature will change by itself over time.

This Kuro owner agrees. :)

Same "problem" for me.

But I've seen that it was the case with the last iPhone 4. Mine was from the very first day and the new one were yellow.

==> normal!

I hated that my screen was warmer. I noticed it right away, and it bothered me that it wasn't only warmer but that it made everything look washed out.

I then compared it to my iPhone 4 and my husband's iPhone 4, and like others noticed, the new iPhone 4Ss are extremely warm in color temp in comparison.

I went to exchange the phone at the Apple Store. They did so without a problem. My new phone was slightly less warm but still extremely warm compared to my iPhone 4. I kinda huffed, but I did the exchange.

I then went crazy and went back to the Apple Store and compared my phone to the floor models. I'd say most of them had the same yellow tint except one, one beautiful blue tinted one, and I coveted it with all my heart.

I asked to swap my phone out one more time. This time they opened two black boxes to see if maybe my lottery chances would work out better. Neither phone they showed me looked better. They were willing to show me more, but I didn't want to waste their time.

I figure I'll wait until the stores aren't so crazy and try ONE more time. If it doesn't work the third time, then I'll just accept my fate. I HATE the warmer look, industry standard or not.

For those who know screens, is the screen itself warm or is it in the software? Apple would never do this, but would it be possible for Apple to recalibrate the screens to look bluer? Just a question out of curiosity.

Bottom line, most of the iPhone 4S screens are warm now, and it's sad. I wish they weren't.

No, they can't. You can't release a "universal color fixer" or whatever you'd like to call it. There's a reason why colorimeters exist. EVERY panel is different, and each needs to be calibrated individually.

you're incorrect.... this can be fixed via software

to elaborate, I had a jailbroken app called f.lux which made the screen warmer at night.... and back to the regular blue during the day. So it can be changed via software

talk about a drastic difference (not even mentioned in the article it was posted on)

warmer is better for your eyes in the long run, I'm sure many of you will get used to it... give it time

I agree. I was a cool guy once :) and then decided to calibrate my TV and I eventually warmed up to a warmer picture. Now when I see an overly blue screen it bugs me. I do understand there are different tastes out there and it would be nice if there was an option for color temp.

what we need is a correctly calibrated screen, not just willy-nilly warm or cool

maybe in the iphone 5 :)
