I am SO tired of people trying to make fun of that phrase every single time there's a bug. When Steve Jobs said "it just works", he did not say, "there will never ever be a bug in our software ever." There will ALWAYS be bugs in software and that will never change.

"It just works" meant that you don't have to configure a bunch of settings or go through any kind of long and annoying process to use a feature. You're being immature when you continually make fun of a company by taking a phrase in a direction it wasn't meant to be taken.

You are right, Steve didn't mean it that way. But the problem is that majority of Apple buyers tend to think that "it just works" means that OS has no problems.

speakerphone

I have a problem where I try to make a call and the phone is stuck on Speakerphone. I can not switch from it. I hit the button several times, and finally it seems to switch. But it doesn't, and there is no audio.

I have had several other call related audio issues...

Hopefully it can be fixed with a software update. I guess we'll be getting a 5.0.2 soon after the 5.0.1 in a few weeks, unless they can some how put in the 5.0.1 update.

I set 5.0.1 downloading when I left for work this morning (UK), looking forward to getting home and installing it on my iPad (1)! :D

This happens to me too

I've had the audio issue happen, and the other person hears it too. I have a genius bar appt to get it looked at. I assume it's a software issue, but who knows.

I know exactly what you mean and I can feel for Apple! Had the same problem with the misconstrued "Mission Accomplished" banner in 'Welcoming Home' the arriving sailors and Marines, but then... Well we all know the rest. Signed "W" ;)

I get this issue. I work for a major fortune 500 company from home, and several times a day I dial-in for meetings. I always wear my headset that shipped with the phone. I've noticed that when I dial into a meeting with 1 other party, I get this issue (hasn't happened when there are multiple parties yet...). It doesn't make a tremendous difference on my end, but the person on the other end of the line say there is a very interruptive echo effect. On my end I can hear them cutting in and out as they talk. Unplugging and re-plugging the headphones does not help. The echo immediately goes away when not using the headphones. I had an iPhone 4 before this that never had this problem. I used headphones shipped with both my iPhone 4 and 4s. I hope Apple comes up with a resolution to this soon.

AT&T - 16 gb - Black

I've experienced the echo before... AT&T 4s 32GB. Nothing else. Except for also having a battery life issue... Fix it Apple!

My only issue with the 4S is the 2 hour battery life. Other than that, it's a great phone.

I genuinely seem to. E getting better battery life than my 4..

I have had the no audio on outgoing calls issue a couple times on my AT&T 4S.
I've always just hung up and called back, and it's worked.
I'll try the speakerphone switch next time. Hopefully Apple fixes it soon.
Along with loud volume after Siri.

I had a terrible year with my iPhone 4, resulting in me eventually buying a different phone to use for phone calls. I hoped the 4s would resolve all my iPhone woes. I was wrong.

I had my 4S less than 24 hours. Every other call resulted in call failure / dropped call

Overwhelming amount of the people I called reported my voice being broken staccato sounding.

Rang Vodafone, said I had changed my mind and sent it back. Not willing to commit to a lengthy contract for a phone that made 'for me' crap phone calls.

Before the flaming. My problems are my own and do not take into account the many people with iPhones 4's and 4eses that are happy with their iDevices - but nether the less they are real issues for me, and meant the iPhone 4 & 4s on my network was possibly the worst phones I've used for phone calls...

I've had this problem since day one and replaced the phone twice the problem is still there, people don't hear me half the time when I call them.

That was my experience too in the brief time I had my 4s.

iphone 4s is BS top to bottom and should never have been made.. we all wanted iphone5 and now karma is killing apple..

I had the same echo issue with bluetooth on my 3GS & 4S but only with newer bluetooth devices not older ones.
The battery drain drives me more.

The 4S is the iPhone 5. 5th generation.

Now from time to time I get a faint buzzing when talking to people on the phone. Nothing to distract me....but it's there.

I find it funny that even on the 5th iPhone, it can do everything but make a phone call. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the phone right now too but even with the diversity antenna, the iPhone doesn't make calls as well as a normal phone.

"Errr ...Look at me I have the newest iPhone "

Hahaha

Glad I stayed with the 4

I need an Untethered Jailbreak anyhow.

I have not experienced any of these issues with my AT&T 32GB 4S.

I hope they get a proper firmware upgrade out there for those that do have problems.

I have the static sound issue on my iPhone 4 and in my case the static is not simply underlying in the background, it distorts the voice on the other side.

I know this isn't a "hardware" issue nor a "Siri" issue because the static was non-existent on my iPhone 4 on the 4.x releases. It's surely something that can be patched up on future release of iOS 5.x & happens occasionaly but randomly.

I've been having issues with the echoing problem. For some reason it didn't occur to me that it could be the phone, I thought it was an AT&T issue related to reception (since my bars fluctate between 1-2 bars sometimes while on calls). I've also been having the echoing issue both on bluetooth AND while just holding the phone to my face. Hopefully, there's a fix soon...

Me too.

I picked up my iPhone 4S on Sunday the 23rd and I've noticed that between 3-5 times the person on the other end cannot hear me. I figured it was just my phone or the network so this is interesting that it's happening with other people as well. In one or two situations toggling between the speaker and headset has worked but in other cases, either I or the other person have given up and just dialed and restarted the call which seems to usually fix it.
