Has anyone got spotlight search for the 4S... It's not showing on mine

Anyway performance wise it's ok... Bit laggy at times but it's satisfactory

works fine on mine....

The only thing not working on mine so far is Siri voice control.

EDIT: just found the 'allow Hey Siri' option in settings/general/siri - now works when phone is charging.

I've been on the GM for about a week now. Looks and feels pretty good to me. Battery is great, apps load fast (Safari, Messages etc). With no heavy usage I even got about 2 days with no charge!

Today animations started to lag a bit, but I was all over it, testing new apps, downloading updates simultaneously, testing extensions and more.

I got:
- Background app refresh off
- Photo stream off
- Bluetooth off most of the time
- iTunes wifi sync on
- FaceTime on
- Spotlight suggestions & Bing off
- iCloud drive not activated
- Reduce Transparency / Reduce Motion off (full animations here, feel kinda faster too)
- Location Services on (off on most of the apps though)
- Automatic Downloads on
- Siri & dictation on (so happy with the Greek dictation, works nicely)

I installed through iTunes 11.4 as fresh and then restored from backup (too bored to set all if this up again manually). I will probably install again when a new update is out (8.0.1 or later).

This is nothing like my previous iPhone 3G on iOS 4.0. Back then I ran home to downgrade to 3.1.3.

I don't want to update my 4S just yet. The keyboards are enticing but after reading how the GM is on my phone, I heard its very laggy. Is it still?
Then again, my Nexus 5 should be ready by Friday (mum's still trying to load her apps from the Nexus 5 to the OPO.)

Well, initially I could not believe how slow and laggy response has been, opening apps, going to the home screen, searching. I turned off background refresh and spotlight suggestions and it looks like it helped.

I'll use it for a day before posting my final impressions, but I will say this: pressing the button to bring up Siri is slow. But when you say something to Siri, the response is very very fast and the 50% comprehension rate is now way way up. Except for the initial lag invoking it, Siri finally feels like it is no longer a beta app.

Some people seem to have issues with thier version of iOS8, but I've downloaded it onto my 16GB 4s and its fine, no issues to speak of really, in fact it works far better than I'd hoped it would. If you have a backup phone on its way then why not give it a shot?

Took 3 hours to upgrade,so far it's ok for me,a little bit slow than iOS7.1.2 but enough for me.

I'm a normal user, not playing games(Only have cover orange) on iPhone,I think that I'm gonna stay with iOS8.

BTW will try iOS8 on iPad2 during the weekend.Enjoy!

The consensus opinion from experts is do not upgrade to iOS 8 on an iPhone 4s. If you want the latest and greatest mobile operating system, you should buy a new phone. The person you sell or hand your old iPhone 4s down to will thank you if you do not put iOS 8 on it.

The iPhone 4s hardware just can't handle all the advanced functionality to be found in iOS 8. There is a lot of lag in the interface, responding to commands and tapping on the keyboard. Spotlight is horrible to use. And as others have said, iOS 8 is simply not designed for that tiny screen.

I admire Apple for trying to give iPhone 4s customers the new experience, but the truth is they should not have offered iOS 8 to these people at all.

I've upgraded to iOS 8 on my 4S and it doesn't lag THAT much.
However, my main concern is that the battery usage just went crash and burn.

From being fully charged 2 hours ago it's now down to 87% and if I look at the battery usage it says Phone 38%, are you kidding me?! I spoke for like 6 minutes and it's already ABOVE Spotify on 33% that I listened for 40 minutes on my way to work.

Home & Lock Screen 13%???!
Facebook background activity 9%!

Hey guys. I'm running the GM installed from Monday with a clean install. I must say that my 4S is running like a dream so far. I'm actually very surprised how well it's doing, quite frankly. The OS is as responsive as it was on launch day three years ago. Apps open pretty fast, apps stay loaded in memory much longer than they did for me on iOS 7, and overall responsiveness from Siri to when a call comes in and I'm watching a video or something to typing with SwiftKey...everything works well. I have Background App Refresh on for just a couple of apps (1Password, Any.DO, Dropbox, messaging apps, Mailbox, Pocket, Spotify, and Tweetbot). Location services only for GPS (Maps/Google Maps/Waze) Instagram, and Foursquare. Activated iCloud Drive (I didn't have any docs in it, so I was ok). All privacy stuff turned off (no Share my location, Diagnostic sending off, Frequent Locations off. I've gotten 7 hours out mixed wifi and 3G use (mostly wifi since I have it at home, school, and TWC wifi-finder app with the installed profile, and I noticed I hook on to wi-fi networks a lot as I move through the city, so this may have something to do with the good battery), and considering this thing is two years old (replacement 4S in 2012), that's pretty nice.

All in all, I'd say that not all experiences of iOS on the 4S is horrible. Mine, in fact, is quite exceptional. So much so that my desire of the iPhone 6 is no longer at a fever pitch - I can wait until I can walk into the Apple Store and pick it up with no (not much) waiting.

I don't see the point in upgrading on 4S just to turn off all the features. I'm sticking with 4S till I get the new phone.

So far I think I'm in the satisfied category. I've only been on iOS 8 for a few hours after a major malfunction with the install but everything seems to be working fine. A few things like safari seem a little slower but I've also got a computer and and iPad. I really only use my phone as a phone and the other features entertain me between work and home and when I'm away from my desk. I'm pretty disappointed handoff doesn't work for the 4s but I do like some widgets like Launcher and weather. Time will tell

Some have said that resetting the network settings will improve the battery.
Also, try to kill all your apps and perform a hard reset (hold home and top buttons until the apple logo appear).

I have tried this last night during my full charge, I will see if it help.

Yeah the quitting apps helped me a lot throughout the betas.

I was going to hold off doing this since most of you said it was horrible, but I just said f it and did it last night.

It's actually (for me) not as bad as the other posts I've read here.

It's not as snippy as ios7 right now. Some things take a smidge more longer to open, but I wouldn't say unusable by any means and I don't feel the need to try to downgrade right now.

I'd imagine an update soon will maybe fix a bit of the lag.

Spotlight doesn't seem to be as fast as I would like, though.
Sometimes after typing something in, I have to swipe back to the home screen then swipe back to spotlight to see results show up.

i took my 4s into work today, around 90min journey. Battery was on 90% when I left home and it had hit 78% by the time I got in. I'd listened to music the whole way there, checked train times via Safari, replied to a few emails etc.

One weird thing did happen today. I left my phone charging on my desk and Siri burst into life all by herself on two occasions! The first time it happened the normal microphone symbol came up, and I just clicked it off. The second time it happened I got a half page of half asked questions scrolling across the screen?!
