With all the leaked images, an iminent announcement on the next phone makes sense. But if all this is to be believed, why aren't we seeing leaked pics of the ipad mini?

The problem with the rumored look isn't that it looks bad. If I thought it looked bad, then I'd essentially be saying that my iPhone 4 looks terrible, too. And that's where the problem lies: the next iPhone doesn't seem to have made any real design changes. To some that's excellent, but there's a growing market of people out there who are beginning to desire the larger touch-screens sported by some of Samsung's latest gadgets. I suppose this isn't a good time for Apple to be copying Samsung, though. ;)

A lot of the time, I'm a design-oriented person. If there's a really good phone with a horrid design, and a mediocre phone with an excellent design, I have to admit that I'm more likely to go with the mediocre phone. All that said, I don't think I'm ready to invest my money in another iPhone if it isn't going to make a big leap forward. Whether or not my mobile life remains on an iPhone device will largely be determined by what the next iPhone has to offer, not just how pretty it looks (and let's be honest, it doesn't even look that pretty).

Apple will likely be keeping any designs for an iPad mini to themselves for fear of a Samsung lawsuit. If the iPad mini is real, it's inevitably going to look like a copy of the Galaxy Tab 7.7 - better to have it on the shelves before the writs start flying I suppose.

(and let's be honest, it doesn't even look that pretty).

Wasn't that what was said right before the iPhone 4 launched though? Ya know, when the leaks came out and people began with their design bashing?

I'm sure most if not all of those same people that complained now have either a 4 or 4S unless they jumped ship and went elsewhere. (although surely they came running back, lol)

Seeing pictures on the internet and holding the actual product in your hand can really open one's eyes I think.

I've experienced both, ordering something online that looks really great in pictures but then getting it and seeing how cheap it actually feels and vise versa, I've ordered questionable products only to recieve them and they have exceptional quality, that's a nice surprise btw. :D

I'm sure most that are moaning about the supposed new look will either have the new iPhone within a couple of months or will be posting threads on here about "how do I get the new iPhone??? My contract isn't up for XX months!!! HALP!!!".

the iphone 5

I dont get whats so different about the iphone 5. It doesnt look special or different it just looks like the iphone 4. so i wouldnt even bother buying it because i like my iphone and the iphone 5 doesnt impress me at all:mad:

When will the iPad Mini be released? I'm going to buy that on launch :D

Lol. Not ever. Seriously, anyone buying the iPad mini garbage is beyond pathetic.

You couldn't possibly know less of what you're talking about.

Because there is no iPad mini. Never was. It's just staggering to me that people believe something so completely IMPOSSIBLE.

We really need a down vote button...

Anyone who has an issue with people buying something they want that they might have good use for just cause that person has no use for it is far beyond pathetic. It's called not everyone has the same needs or priorities as you...

Oh, and why is it impossible? Do you know the meaning of that word? It means it cannot be done. So why can't an iPad mini not be done? And I'm not looking for why it probably won't be done, or why apple won't do it (which sorry, you don't know that either), but why can it not be done?

You're just another uninformed poster with over active imagination.

We need a vote down button for people who ignore reality, like you.

1. There are no "needs or priorities" in question here. How absurd. An iPad is an iPad. There is no need for one slightly smaller than what we have now. NONE. There is no reason for it.

2. Keeping that in mind, Apple would need a GREAT reason to even consider producing the exact same product as the iPad, slightly smaller, and putting it out there to fragment and canibalize their own sales. Given that there is NO reason whatsoever, surely you can understand already why Aple isn't even considering it.

3. It's impossible, because Apple cannot build a 7" iPad and sell it for less than $399. It's simply not possible. If you don't understand why, you shouldn't even be commenting on the issue, because clearly you know nothing of component costs, margins, Apple values and history, etc. etc. etc.

Go look at the current lineup of Apple products, and come back and tell me that is even remotely realistic for them to shave an inch off the iPad and cut the price in half.

Thank goodness for pmz who can tell everyone here their needs and wants

good points but will you publicly eat crow if they do?

I yet to hear ANY reason from ANYONE as to why they want/need the iPad with an inch shaved off? It's not any more portable, it can't get any lighter to be anything but negligible, and as I already pointed out it CAN'T come anywhere near the price point that some people fantasize about.

See, most people are under the delusional impression that reason for a smaller iPad = cheaper. It's completely impossible for 2012, so it's not even worth acknowledging. I know that they can't do it, just as every other industry source knows it can't be done....therefor it won't be.

All of that is again regardless of the fact that they wouldn't want to even if they could.

LTE I'm sure might be the main reason everyone buys it. I don't like the leaked images of it either and hope to god its not the final product but I still might make the jump from iP4 to 5.

I also just dropped mine after 2yrs of keeping it as mint as possible and the top right front screen is cracked. I would like something new.

Really?

You're the one without imagination if you can't figure that out.

I'll give you two examples.

My roommate flies a small plane. He won't buy the current iPad cause there is nowhere he can put it at the size it is. He really does want one. He's waiting for the smaller one because he knows where he'd put that and it could be put in the cockpit without getting in the way of everything else (and yes, pilots use the iPad a lot. We were just at a convention of other people who have his plane and the iPad was the big thing. They all had figured clunky ways of dealing with the size but I'm sure all of them would also appreciate a size that would fit better in their plane that didn't involve putting it away in some hard to get place when not in use. They were just more willing to deal with clunky solutions than my roommate. None seemed uninterested when he said they are coming out with a smaller one or thought that it would make it too small for use.

I want more of a glorified book reader. In fact, if my mom hadn't given me an iPad already, I would have considered the Nexus 7 (despite having a mac and iPhone and the iPad would work well in that ecosystem) because it's much more what I want need. Something better sized for reading a book (the iPad is too heavy, I want something I can comfortably hold in one hand) that also does some games (the android ecosystem isn't too bad for that). There's a loss Apple would take by not having a 7" (I'd gladly pay a little more to have the tablet be in apple's ecosystem and be able to use iOS's appstore). And yes it would make it lighter (really? You think a smaller size is going to be the same weight?), and also, less weight distribution far from where I'm holding it on the bottom side (balance of it does matter. Even if it is smaller but same weight it is still easier to hold in one hand).

So, I think you are the one who has no imagination when your can't possibly think why anyone would need a small iPad. Remember, not everyone is you and not everyone has the same desires/needs or are in the same situation. You really need to learn that what you want is not what everyone else wants. Or in other words, grow up.

As for the impossible thing, that does not make Apple making a 7" iPad impossible. That makes it improbable. I suggest you learn to use the two words appropriately (or you're going to be eating a lot of crow in life). Now maybe it's impossible (now) for them to make it at a price that people would pay and give them profit, but then again, are you Apple? Do you know for sure they haven't figured out some way? Or what they are planning on doing? For all you know maybe they are willing to lose some profit. Or they managed to finagle some deals that they can sell it at a price it will compete with other 7" (remember, they still have the name for tablets so they can still price some bit more and compete just for having name recognition).

Tim is probably pissed that everything leaked. We all know the internals will get a bump. I guess the only thing we don't know is, what will be that iPhone 5 gimmick that they claim the iPhone 4S can't run.

LTE?
NFC?

We know passport will run on 4S, but if apple puts a NFC device in iPhone 5 it could be the "gimmick" you speak of. I would totally love paying with my phone. Especially if it knows how to pay based on geo-fencing. :)

I'm guessing more of a late September announcement rather than last years Early October announcement. 12th September sounds to early. But then again, I have no reason to care about the next iPhone since I wont be upgrading :(... However, my dad will be so it's exciting for him!

I've very excited to see this announcement. With such large expectations, I wonder if Apple will be able to live up to them all. I guess we'll see in a little over a month.

Lol what joke. That was the most absurd rant I've ever read. Come down to reality fella.

Truly, your fantasy scenarios for legitimizing a 7" iPad are laughable at BEST. And your comments re: pricing are those of just another Joe Shmoe poster, with no knowledge of what is involved. If you're ok with making such statements with no knowledge to back it up, go ahead...just makes you look ridiculously foolish.

Personally, I find 10" tablets awkward to hold and manipulate (from my experiences with my HP TouchPad that's very similar to an iPad in size/weight/girth). Playing around with my friend's Nexus 7, I can see that form factor alieviating that issue greatly, it was easy to hold and use.

In the end, anyone who wants to tell others what their wants and needs are is the one who looks foolish.

For me, tablets in general be they 7" or 10" have no legitimate use cases or scenarios where they are warranted. I'm not about to go all pmz on them and tell them they are wrong in wanting an iPad or any other tablet though.

Cool it, your opinion is not a fact.

You are either moderately decent at trolling or really so full of yourself you're not worth arguing with (Hopefully you aren't in the business of selling stuff or marketing stuff or even trying to find the market for a product or even aiming a product at a market. You won't go far with the attitude that only your uses are appropriate when you are trying to sell stuff. You really want to create a product that will sell or market it towards people you have to have the ability and imagination to realize that other people will have different uses for things than you do or may even have a use for something you do not have a use for).

Either way, this is the last I'll be replying to you. I do feel a bit foolish cause one only looks foolish themselves when they waste time arguing with a fool.

BTW, I'm not a fella. If you want to claim you are so astute as to know exactly what Apple is doing and what there is a market for, you might want to be able to notice a simple thing like a name... tigress usually denotes a female tiger which would probably suggest I'm female ;) .

iPad mini -might- finally convince me to get one. I can't see any point in the 10" as a laptop is barely any bigger and is 100 times more useful. The 7" -will- hopefully be better for typing, a better aspect ratio, a better weight, and a much easier thing to take with you.

The iPhone 6 can't come soon enough; my 4 is almost a year post-water-damage and what random life is left in the screen is rapidly slipping away; it has been more often just a black screen than not since April 25 though, so I might be able to wait a bit longer ... except the NZ launch is bound to be delayed until next year :(. But that headphone jack on the bottom is worth waiting for; best iPhone feature -ever-. If it wasn't for my being fairly sure that is coming, I'd definitely be looking at WP8 for my next.

So basically, the rumours are awesome and I just hope I can wait :D.

would you consider the 3GS a part of the 3 family? or the 4S part of the 4 family? so the 5 really could work and make sense

I find it difficult to fathom how such a huge portion of the general population can't grasp this simple piece of arithmetic, akin to people believing that the current millenium started in 2000, when it quite obviously started in 2001.

I'll outline this for people, comprehensively, so that once and for all, people are no-longer at odds as to what Apple's naming scheme indicates.

1: iPhone (2007) i.e. iPhone 1 (Design 1)
2: iPhone 3G (2008) i.e. iPhone 2 (Design 2)
3: iPhone 3G S (2009) i.e. iPhone 3 (Design 2)
4: iPhone 4 (2010) i.e. iPhone 4 (Design 3 - NOT iPHONE 3)
5: iPhone 4 S (2011) i.e. iPhone 5 (Design 3)
6: iPhone 6/4G (2012) i.e. iPhone 6 (Design 4 - NOT iPHONE 4 or 5)

The only argument I've heard supporting the iPhone 5 naming scheme is 'the previous iPhone was 4, therefore the next iPhone should be 5'. If that's the case, then it's not consistent with Apple's naming scheme.

Based on Apple's past behaviour in their iPhone designations, they're either going to call it 'iPhone', 'iPhone 6' or 'iPhone 4G'. Not iPhone 5.

You're the only one looking foolish right now, and the only thing that's laughable about this thread is the "knowledge" you claim to have about an ipad mini. Please, tell us more about how important you are.

What a blowhard.

Aside from the incredibly rude comment, you are also quite uninformed. Why would Eddie Cue (who I'll have to guess as an executive VP at Apple is far more informed than you) write an email last November (leaked from the Samsung trial) stating that the 7 inch iPad is quite manageable (with perhaps the exception of web browsing).

The email is all over the internet, and a simple Google search before posting your comment would have made you look less like a fool and would have made the internet a slightly nicer place for a few minutes.
