This design SUCKS. It is anything but radically new. I'm so sick of the 4 design, it is unquestionably time for something new. This is just Tim Cook and all the corporate business school ****-tards he's hired since Steve died milking profits. When you use the same design your manufacturing costs go WAY down, and that is why your seeing so much resemblance to the 4. There is no way this is the iPhone 5 Steve created before he died, he would never let this piece of **** see the light of day. If you're thinking "oh well I guess they don't really need to change the design" you are flat out lying to yourself. Since Tim Cook has taken office, not even one Apple product has seen a design change. This NEVER happened with Steve. Jonny Ive should have been made CEO, and Cook should have just stayed not the supply side, because this is the kind of **** that happens when the person in charge is focused solely on supply chain efficiency.

WHOA! Steve left a 10 year map.
So what if it looks like the 4. Why do they have to make a radical change? Leave "the phone look of the moment" to all the Android makers.

i don't really think an ipad mini is coming. i see a new ipod with 4 inch screen coming but an ipad mini just seems unnecessary.

Really?? I didn't see anything on Apple's website and from what I know of Apple, if it's on the site, it's official, if it's not, than its just speculation. This post seemed like an official announcement. And why is the 6th gen iPhone being called the iPhone 5?? It's driving me crazy! Just call it the New iPhone.

I'm currently on my first iPhone, a 4s and I have to say I love it. I don't have any desire to upgrade at this time because the phone is doing more than what I need. However, I do need a memory job if I can get one. Whenever they make the announcement of the next generation of iPhone, the carriers will generally discount the current model. I want to get my wife a white 16gb 4s. Historically, does Verizon discount at the time of the announcement or do they wait until the new model is actually released? I know there is a small window to grab the 16gb model from their stock before the cheaper, 8gb model is introduced.

Thanks!

My thoughts exactly. Almost every new product that comes out we eventually see leaked parts. Haven't seen anything parts for the "iPad mini" so I doubt it's true.

I disagree. I think there was way too much smoke for there not to be a fire, especially considering all of the "leaks" conveniently came out during the same days that the Google Nexus 7 was started to get "ink."

For the longest time I didn't think that the 8" iPad Mini would ever see the light of day, but now I think we'll see one before year's end. Personally I'm guessing it's a "One More Thing" for the new iPhone event.

would you consider the 3GS a part of the 3 family? or the 4S part of the 4 family? so the 5 really could work and make sense

The reasoning makes sense but not the execution. I understand that people are comfortable with sequenced numbers, I get it. Think about this with the iPod Touch. You wouldn't consider last year upgrade a "generation" because there was no new features, it was just a new color upgrade. But there is a difference between the 3 and the 3GS or the 4 with the 4S just because it was branded and marketed as a number, doesn't make the generation numbering sequence right.

But yeah, its a loosing battle to convince anybody that the iPhone 3 was actually iPhone Generation 2. Its the usually thing, if Apple says the sky is green, people will believe its green and argue to death about it Lol. :D

I made some changes in Pixelmator (like photoshop). I centered the back camera, clone stamped the antenna gaps out. It went from meh to gorgeous, imo.

BTW, Do any of you think the back and the bezel is liquidmetal?

Question

So is the iPad release move to the Autumn to cater a possible April/May Apple TV set release?

Yes I have a theory:

Iphone 5 8GB silver and white
Iphone 5 16GB silver and white
Iphone 5 16GB Liquid blue metal (£100 more expensive)?

and so on...

The liquid metal could be a premium extra and the silver just using the Iphone 4S material?

Explains the two different colours. One must be a high end one.

I totally agree 6 makes complete sense, but it would throw the general population off.

Possibly but I hope not :( I really like the blue hue.

They are going to make the iPhone 4S the only 8GB phone like they usually do. So the lowest cost is going to be the 16GB iPhone.

Agreed sigh. If they give it a number it will be 5. I don't get why so many can't figure that out. Most of the iPhone purchasers aren't Apple geeks and therefore would wonder where the missing iPhone 5 went. It really is simple. 3G > 3GS > 4 > 4S > 5.

No, if they gave it a number it would be 6.

3G doesn't refer to the 3rd iPhone generation, but 3rd generation of wireless data speeds (e.g., 3G speeds >> 4G network). They didn't name the iPhone 4 "4" because it was the number right after the 3 in "3GS," but because it really was the 4th iPhone.

All the fanboys threw a hissy fit last year when the ~*iPhone 5*~ turned out to be a respectable revision of the iPhone 4, and are *still* clamoring for this product that is already in the hands of millions; the iPhone 5 was branded "iPhone 4S." The sixth iPhone (iPhone 6) will be released this September, and will probably follow the iPad naming scheme (e.g., "the new iPhone").

See the image below for my reasoning.

Edit: "iPhone 4GS" should be "iPhone 4S" in the picture :p

Into a frenzy! Riots will take place in the streets, people will be taken as hostages if not agree with the numbering. Even after the iOS 6 is in place people keep calling it iPhone 5 lol. Its just not computing to some. :p

Wow I couldn't have said it better myself!!

People will get a bad deal going for the 4S 8GB if it happens anyway as the battery is much worse than the 4. Iphone 4 might be on a free contract though.

I predict: they continue the "iPhone (something)"-naming scheme.
As do I. Retailers will be selling three different versions alongside each other always. They don't do that for the iPad. The iPhone needs some kind of name or else it's confusing to new customers. I would be perfectly happy if they just went with naming them like cars: the 2012 iPhone, the 2013 iPhone, etc.

Still missing the point. Ask anyone who doesn't spend all day on Mac rumours type forums what the new iPhone will be called, they'll say "iPhone 5". Apple will know this, they won't want to cause confusion amongst their mass customers. I'm not questioning that the phone is the 6th generation, I'm just saying that's not what it will be called. It may well just be called new iPhone but it won't be called iPhone 6, feel free to come back here and laugh at me relentlessly if I'm wrong.

Very excited for the iphone 5...I had a 3GS, then betrayed and went with a couple of androids for the next couple years because iOS was just missing a lot that android had (voice commands, free navigation, one-touch shortcuts for phone calls, texting, navigation, custom lock screen, basic file management, movie players to play different file types, drag/drop functionality, etc, easy rooting for free wireless tethering, custom OSes, and ad free apps, and so on and so forth).

But my android phones were ALWAYS missing the basics that the iPhone had...stablity, ease of syncing media and actually keeping it organized, wifi performance, call performance/quality, ease of use (dam androids lag with every touch and get worse with every app u install, even after rooting and removing bloatware and lighter custom OSes). So I've wanted to get back into iOS but found that it was missing too much. But over the years, I think iOS has finally caught up and along with iOS 6 and some great apps on the app store, all the shortcomings of iOS have been absolved whereas android will NEVER fix their shortcomings.

That doesn't make it right, its a sequence of the numbering that they are looking at not the generation. The marketing of the phone is totally different on what we are talking here, it's never about the marketing of it. Remember the Apple community likes continuity 3G 3GS 4 4S. 3GS was always the 2Generation, but everybody knew it as 3GS.

This new iPhone will be called the New iPhone or just iPhone, it will not have a numbering and when that happens it will be known by the Generation or year not by a marketing number that Apple never gave it. The iPhone sites are just using iPhone5 to call it something, that naming is not official and its just being used to call a new redesign iPhone since they didn't see it on the iPhone 4S. In the end I can call my Dog "Cat" it still doesn't make it a Cat.

THANK YOU!! I cringe every time I hear it labeled as the iPhone 5

remember how everyone was upset when they thought the iphone 4S was going to be the iphone 5, but it was not? That is why everyone is still calling it a 5....i really do not understand how people are confused why people would still call it a 5

this does nothing to the obtrusive keyboard when typing in landscape. Great for vertical typing, but I can't imagine how wide that keyboard will be and how narrow the visible area will end up.

(1) Tim Cook recently said "Apple is doubling-down on privacy." It would be quite funny to learn that this is a controlled leak of misinformation. In a way, I hope it is. I think he's doing a good job. I'd get a kick out of this being part of the doubling-down on privacy.

If you're referring to these next iPhone "leaks", I agree. It's such a dull upgrade with a design thats pretty much the same as the 2 year old one, not to mention the utterly pointless double coloured back. It would be fantastic if this was Apple's work to cover for a much nicer unibody design something like the iPad one with a 4" or so 4:3 display (that hopefully uses less bezel).

iphone 6!

It's the iPhone 6! Why isn't being report as such?! Once the numbering is taken off it should be numbered by generation and 6 is the appropriate code

I'm with Apollo Apple has already announced that the next iOS is iOS6 so why would they call it the iPhone 5, use your brains people.
