I hope this could somehow occur, however, we still dont have a shipment confirmation, yet alone a preparing to ship notification. So it is doubtful we get our phones this week.

That may just be beacuse the notification system is broken. Not because the phones aren't shipping. As in my previous post it's not credible that they didn't have at least 2 million in stock and that they sold all of those in the first hour when the 2 million figure covers 24 hours, not one.

Not very likely.

I agree. There was network traffic issues and most people were asleep during that period. I regret ordering from Apple as ATT/VERIZON had stock available to be delivered by 9/21 even till 9:00 EST. BUMMER

A lot of people are getting notifications today and updates on their phones. There are hundreds of threads here of people talking about their shipment updates this morning/afternoon. When they are getting ready to ship, they notify you, after that, who cares lol. It isn't broken. But I agree. I have hope that it will be here before the 5th. (2nd for me)

I have seen a couple Oct 1 delivery dates but still doesn't explain the gap. They don't ship to direct website orders but carriers get 9/28 delivery dates? Just doesn't make sense.

That lengthy gap doesn't make any sense unless it's due to errors in the system that's spitting out those dates.

That's because for some people the notifications are working properly, whereas for the majority it's not. The ones who are chattering about shipping details are the ones who are most likely to post. A relatively small number of people can make a disproportionate amount of 'noise'.

The lengthy gap is worst case scenario, we can probably expect delivery dates before Oct but definitely not on 9/21. So any date from 9/24 - 10/5 is likely. They are just keeping a buffer and playing it safe.

The sudden cutoff and jump in shipping date looks to me more like the system 'blew a fuse' at about 45-50 minutes into the ordering and that everythng after that is just an error.

I hope Apple is not ignoring the preorders and solely making iPhone 5s for customers who are walking into the brick and mortar stores including Apple Store, ATT, VERIZON, and SPRINT.

Some people are saying the phone is delayed for international customers; however, there is a separate version of iPhone 5 for the rest of the world exc Japan, Canada, and US (all part of 9/21 rollout)

It doesn't make any sense since the latest report said that Apple sold 2 million in the 1st 24 HOURS. That means that in order to run out in the 1st hour there couldn't have been more than about 200,000 in stock. That's a mighty small number for a company like Apple to had ready. 2 million would have been a more credible number, and in that case all the preorders made in the 1st 24 hours ought to have been able to hit the Sept. 21 date. Maybe all of us with Oct 5 on our order status are seeing an erroneous output and that the phones will actually be delivered on the 21st as we would have expected.

There sure is something fishy about that.

I agree there is something fishy... but no.... the Oct 5th phones are not currently being shipped. Even if the website was wrong --- Apple wouldn't ship you a phone until they charged you. Has your credit card been shipped?
I missed the 9/21 cutoff by about an hour on Friday morning. I have the 10/5 date. Apple has put a $1 hold on my credit card (checking the validity of the card when taking the pre-order), but has not yet charged me the full price of the phone. Once I'm charged, I'll know its shipping soon.

So really, even if the Apple site is wrong, check to see if your credit card has been charged. Has anyone with a 10/5 date been charged?

I see 2 things being odd:

1 -- Shipping in 2 weeks from 9/14 with a delivery date by 10/5, suggests they plan on shipping around 9/28. So why no shipments of iphones from around 9/19-9/28? Of course, there could be a simple reason --- They are making a priority of stocking up the stores. In addition, they have more and more retail partners that need stock (Best Buy, Radio Shack, Walmart). So for the first couple weeks, all the inventory may be going to retail instead of online orders.

2 -- THe statement made by Apple today that "the majority" of pre-orders would be delivered by 9/21. I guess it depends on what you could at a pre-order. People ordering today, are still "pre-orders" and they almost certainly won't get their phone by 9/21. So I think the press release was poorly worded, and what it meant to say was, "the majority of pre-orders who were given a 9/21 date will in fact get it by 9/21." I don't think they meant to suggest that people would see their delivery date moved up by 2 weeks.

I do think us 10/5ers are likely to see the phones a bit early. They will probably ship by 9/28, with a delivery by 10/1 or 10/2 for most people.
Best case scenario, they start working through those pre-orders as soon as the 9/21 batch is done... start shipping them out later this week, and start arriving next week. But going back to (1) above, I think they are simply steering their inventory into retail for 10 days or so.

THIS! Couldn't have put it any better, I completely agree. No way we get it 9/21. But I have faith it is very soon after. I bet we get shipment notifications later this week.

People with 2 week delay will definitely be not getting it on 9/21; however, I think it will be earlier than 10/5. Shipping normally takes 2-3 days even if it is from China (Got my 4S directly from China through UPS tracking). So you should expect it to arrive right after your status change to "Shipped". Also it seems odd that Apple isn't updating "Available to ship: 2 weeks", as time goes by it is becoming more and more inaccurate as we come closer to next week.

I would agree, but what would be the point of pre-ordering if you knew you wouldnt get the phone until 2 weeks after release? The people that pre-order are typically the most loyal customers. So shouldn't these prepared customers get the highest priority considering they took time to order on release date? Just my opinion.

Sure, I agree with you on that. But Apple has to make their customers be happy who had been waiting on line for days  . BTW, every ATT store has a waiting list of a month  so I guess sticking with preorder will be our best bet.

I'm hoping to see some shipping notices come Thursday and Friday also. If nothing changes Friday I'll probably try local stores by me to see how stock is going, and if I can get one I'll cancel the apple order then.

Exactly. The preorder is an epic fail.

What do you think the chances are of anyone who isn't already camped out in line leaving the store with an iPhone5? By the time regular folks get into the store there'll be nothing left.

That's because, as I speculated earlier their system is broken.

Definitely. Hope it substantiates your speculation.

The point of pre-ordering online, even doing it now with a 3 week wait, is to be able to sit back and receive the phone in the comfort of your own home instead of lining up at the store early in the morning. Or walking into a store without knowing whether phones will be in stock.

One can also say the most loyal and rabid fans are the ones who line up at the store.
And which will get a bigger negative reaction in the press -- what makes for a more viral news segment -- People sitting in their houses quietly moaning, "darn, I have to wait a few extra days for my delivery" --- Or a horde of 500 customers booing outside of an Apple Store, when the manager has to walk out at opening and tell the throngs of people, "sorry, we only have 5 phones in stock today"

I think Apple wants to make sure that they can service a decent number of walk-in customers every day, especially the first weekend. You may be annoyed that you don't get your phone quickly, after logging in and pre-ordering... but don't you think someone who actually spends hours standing in line, would get even more annoyed... if they stood in line for hours and hours, only to be told, "get back in line tomorrow morning, and maybe we'll have more in."

Anyone have experience with ordering the 4S/iPad/4 have a huge gap between dates?

1) Time of order: 7:45 AM CST
2) Status: Processing Items
3) ETA: Oct 5

I am going to my local AT&T store on Friday and see if I get lucky and they have a black 32GB iPhone 5 in stock (or maybe even a 64 if I have to). If they do, I will just cancel my order from Apple and buy it from them.

The people who camp out in line are simply insane. That's not something anyone in their right mind would do for a mere phone. If it were starving people lined up for food..OK. But not for a phone. Showing up at the store when it opens is normal behavior. The people already there having stood for hours in the freezing cold before the store's opening hour are nuts. I've never done anything like that and never will. I might go to the store once normal business hours have begun to scope out the situation but I will not get on a line that extends more than 100 feet or so from the door. I'd like to get my phone on Friday, but I'll only go so far to accomplish that.

Check with them by phone. They have a waiting list and some don't even sell it.
