Based on the size of the chamfer on the top and bottom edge of the supposed back shell, I don't think that the front glass will sit completely above the rest of the phone like it does on the iPhone 4/4S, but rather be closer to being flush with it like on the iPod touch or the iPad 2. The chamfer on the top and bottom edge of the band on the 4/4S isn't nearly as large because it isn't the edge that your had really contacts (it does, but to a much smaller extent than it contacts the edge of the glass). If this is the case, then the phone shouldn't be much thicker than what you see here or than the steel band of the iPhone 4/4S. Basically they got rid of the glass thickness. Probably able to do this if they're using the thinner Gorilla Glass 2 and the reduced thickness touch/LCD assembly.

The design is growing on me, seeing it side by side with an 4/4S it doesn't look awkwardly long to me and I don't mind the two-tone back.

JUST Remember Tim is doubling down in security!! Is he building a false one to fake people out?

Kinda reminds me of the One S back.

I really like what I see. I like the color and the design, I like the unibody style, and the size seems fine!! I have the 4S, and depending also on the specs, if this is the iPhone 5 I'm a day one buyer!!

I really like it. I just hope that they keep the aspect ratio of the screen the same. I would hate to see black bars on the top and bottom of all my apps!

I wouldn't mind having the same finish on the back of the phone as the Apple TV. I love the feel and look of it with the shiny Apple logo over the flat black. Just my opinion.

Cydiablog points to a new hands on video with the same "iPhone 5" parts that have been circulating. The new video was posted by part supply company eTradeSupply.

YouTube: video
The new video is not especially more revealing, but does show the backplate in a number of different angles. The narrator also compares it directly to the iPhone 4, showing the relative size. Other features noted:

- Smaller dock port
- Bottom headphone jack
- SIM card slot smaller
- iPhone 5 is thinner than iPhone 4S (though no screen on the iPhone 5)

I don't know the design is not all that great! The larger speakers are going to vibrate the heck out of the headphone jack!

I don't think the 4" 16:9 screen will present many, if any, problems for one handed use. I think by keeping the width the same as the current iPhone, they were able to eliminate most of the "reach" problems associated with big(ger) Android phones that also grew in width.

I quickly "tested" this by taking my iPhone 4 and imagining the top of the screen was (per the image below) just above the camera and earpiece. I have average sized hands and I had no problem reaching both upper corners while holding the iPhone as I normally would. If it were wider, then that far upper corner and the opposite edge is out of reach for most people. Just my own non-scientific test/opinion. May not apply for all, obvisously.

If the headphones are in, why would the speaker be working? And otherwise, I don't think the speaker will damage anything near it.

Also, the grille next to the headphone jack is probably for the microphone, while the other larger grille is for the speaker.

2 reasons why I wouldn't want to upgrade.

1- the headphone jack. I like the idea of it being right side up in my pocket, but my car connector would block the headphone connector and when I drive I like to use headphones with a microphone because my car doesn't have bluetooth.

2- Two tone- I'm just not a fan of this. Since this is a personal preference I doubt many will feel the same.

For those of you think this is real:

You have to explain why Apple hasn't had these shots and videos taken down.

If they are real, Apple would probably have HAD to pursue legally. NDA's work in two directions.

If company A is allowed to freely disregard the NDA, company B, likewise with an NDA, may say something to the effect, "Apple's not enforcing these things anymore and we can make a crap ton telling all these other guys what the secret design is, so let's leak."

This isn't good for Apple...why have NDA's at all if you're not going to enforce them?

Also, this is intellectual property we're talking about. You have to enforce your rights or risk losing them (true in almost all law, but especially so in IP). These are called trade secrets, and you can't enforce them on one person/entity while you've allowed your "secret" to otherwise become public. This is the reason for a TON of IP litigation.

What other company do you know who more rigorously defends it's IP? Why would they stop now?

I kind of like this look, so convince these are real.

Thats the same thing people said about the iphone 4... The ice cream sandwich look is not something apple would do... and those horrible black lines (antenna) Ive's would never design anything that atrocious. And look how many they went on to sell, its become one of the greatest designs.

and as far as the pin dock connector does that mean manufacturers shouldn't change parts because they have been using it for many generations? If everybody thought this way we would still be using flip phones with analog displays

Yea absolutely! How about SATA versus IDE? Same here - they shrunk cable size and connector size and it went faster... for all the ones who think that the 30-pin is the holy grail or versitility and speed. On that note, wonderring how fast USB3 is versus a 30-pin...

Hi, I like the idea of a unibody enclosure for the back and the removal of the back glass. I also like the two tone back, but design wise you would really want a break between the matt and gloss areas, maybe a small groove. If the matt just goes to a feather edge against the gloss its not going to look that nice.

Also looking at the "supposed" back plate, does anyone see any signs of what might have happened to the iPhone4/4S antenna or the small side antenna breaks?

Is that actually two different materials or is that simply to types of finish of the same material? I'm referring to the iPhone 5 part he is tossing around.

I would say its a single part with a finish applied. I do think that doing it with 2 different parts/materials would make for a nice look, but from an engineering standpoint that would break the idea that this part can be machined as a single component.

I don't know if this is real or fake but "unibody" design / manufacturing seems to be the way apple is going with all its products. Its a lot harder to engineer for "unibody" but if you have that precision ability its a far cheaper method in the long run.

I actually really like the two-tone effect. Doesn't look tacky to me at all. I also liked the aluminium back of the first iPhone, but loath the plastic back of the 3G/S versions. There were so many people complaining about the glass back on the 4/S, so this must be a step forward.. right?

This thread should be called...'More reasons to buy a Samsung Galaxy S3'...:)

As someone who made the jump from iPhone 3G to an HTC EVO 4G, hated it, so then picked up a Nexus S 4G with Icecream Sandwich (same Android OS as the Galazy S III minus Samsung's skins and other bloatware), I strongly suggest against that. ICS is leaps and bounds ahead of any Android system before it, but still has much more work to be done. And good luck getting a timely update whenever google eventually does address the issues. Ask anyone who has owned both. I'd be very surprised if they preferred Android.

As for this part, it is very consistent with many of the rumors we've seen.
-The thin sound is because it is an empty piece of metal with nothing to obsorb sound.
-Earphone jack loacation will be a non-issue after 3 uses, if that.
-Antennas are still in the band around the phone, it's just black now.
-Also, I suspect the display will be thinner than the 4/4s once installed. I remember reading about apple using new technology for the new displays that significantly reduce thickness of parts needed for the touchscreen of the new iPhone. What remains to be seen is will this change be visible from the exterior or just obvious on the inside of the phone for enhanced packaging of the internal parts.

None of us can know with any certainty if this is it, but I'd venture to say I'm 90% confident we are looking at the next iPhone here...

I think a unibody back in some sort or hardened (scratch proof) alloy or ceramic would be a nice way to go, your also saving 2mm instantly as the rear glass is purely cosmetic.

I'll reserve judgement of course but so far I don't like the looks.

What I don't have to wait on is the headphone jack and switch to a different dock connector. I hate those changes. I have multiple docking/mounting situations that will not work with this new setup, some of which will be expensive to re-engineer/replace.

"What is dis stuff? Its real looks like an iPhone component? Let me check. Yeahhssss... It has an eye-phh.. Is ay Ayple log here, an also as an iPhone here."

I like the all metal back, but I agree not crazy about the 2 tone, but I think I can live with it :D

My guess is that this is just another iPhone knockoff that has become so common in the far east. The only difference is the knockoff is of a product that is only rumored to exist.

The top and bottom are different, likely radio transparent, materials. Look at all the fasteners on the inside of the case. It's still a machined "unibody" design as the structural portion of the case is machined from a single piece of aluminium, even if it's not all one piece.
