I will most liKely pick up a couple of 4/4s before they kill that design.....i dont like where apple is going... 4/4s was best design/hand-ergonomical ever made.... Phone should fit in your POCKET

you must have a small pocket

Seems very plausible, considering all the other rumors...

I think I'd prefer that. My headphone jack keeps getting damaged from putting my phone in my pocket upside down with headphones plugged in.

Meaning... There's too much going on on the back of the phone, it doesnt look seamless as the others have. Instead of being able to appreciate the smooth curves of the iPhone 3G/S, or the sleek glass edging of the iPhone 4/S, my eyes are not drawn to anything in particular, but equally feel as if too much is going on back there. In other words it seems to lack the simplicity of the previous models. The original iPhone had one break between materials yet somehow it didn't feel as cluttered as this leaked design. Hope that helps.

Helps? It's gibberish.

Does it really matter? I mean, how many times has your iPhone even seen the light of day? Mine, like 95% of the people I know, lives it's entire life in a black rubber case of some sort. And when I see people with a make iPhone, I just shake may head because I know that either they're gonna have a banged up iPhone or a broken iPhone very soon.

yea my iPhone 4 is really banged up and broken.

i got my phone launch day(basically 2 years ago come the 24th) and hasn't ever been in a case. i cringe when i see iPhones in cases. Its too pretty to cover up but most people are clumsy. I am not...

I hope this iPhone is charged by a micro USB port. Would save me buying extra chargers for my office and the car.

A·don·is   [uh-don-is, uh-doh-nis]
noun
1.
Classical Mythology . a youth slain by a wild boar but permitted by Zeus to pass four months every year in the lower world with Persephone, four with Aphrodite, and four wherever he chose.
2.
a very handsome young man.

I'm going with #1. ;)

He's also a Greek God. ;)

The two tones are ugly and I think the larger size is a step backwards. Talking to a few girls too, they hate that it could be longer, saying that the current one barely fits in their pockets when they have it there.

the black one does seem more manly especially the dark colors of it. I personally like it but i like black on black things. Cars/wheels. decorations ect...
Also how is a bigger screen a step backwards? a 3.5" screen is nice but bigger would be nicer and this is a nice compromise. The phone overall isn't much longer look at the measurements. They will fit fine in pants....

Hi all

It was in the news that Apple had signed up with other mobile manufacturers to start making a standard charge / data connector (Micro USB to be exact) - Apple in fact signed up hence why in the UK an official Apple adapter is available to support the new smaller pin type: http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD099

Check out the smaller connector near the bottom, it would fit perfectly in the space allowed on the iPhone 5 casing - guaranteed. This also allows a larger speaker / microphone area and allows Apple to fit more components into the phone as space is severely limited.

Exactly

Please see my post above.

Consider, all tech companies sign NDA's (non-disclosure agreements) protecting trade secrets. When you sign one with Apple you do it because you're making a boat load of cash after winning a supply contract.

You also know that Apple is famous for enforcing NDA's, with what must an entire portion of its in-house legal counsel (all with NDA's in their contracts, FYI) looking over the web for any leaks. I could link to prove this, but I think if you're on this board you probably have seen this often enough.

What happens when real leaks happen? They are immediately pulled from the web, or Apple sends a swat team (seriously...remember Gizmodo-gate).

These are very likely fakes. Either that, or Apple has completely changed how they handle leaks.

We're definitely on the same page. I missed your post (the one you reference above), but after finding and reading it, it appears we both have the exact same questions and/or concerns. I'm well aware of the SWAT teams and in-house investigators desguised as police officers deployed whenever a substantial part or bit of information is leaked, and as time goes by and the amount of coverage this back plate receives exponentially increases, I become more and more surprised at the complete and utter lack of response from Apple.

I can possibly understand Apple taking a new approach to product leaks, maybe deciding to leave the blogs alone instead of sending them take down notices, which would only cement the validity of the leak, in an effort to mitigate any further damage. BUT, I just can't fathom the idea that they would leave those responsible for the buying and selling of the part alone. If it's real, that unquestionably means contracts were blatantly disregarded and parts were stolen from factory floors. That's enough reason for ANY company to go after the guilty parties, let alone a company that treats secrecy as dead serious as Apple. Considering the massive amounts of information this supposed leak openly lays out on the table, how competitive the smartphone market is, how quickly those competitors rip off new features from the iPhone, and how far out the launch of the actual device is, this is tantamount to a straight up nightmare situation for Apple. And shouldn't the factory that produced it be flipping out? If it's real, they basically just lost their best customer. From this video, it looks like some identifying numbers can be seen. Couldn't those be used to fairly accurately trace it back to the exact line that produced it?

Is Apple waiting until the phone is actually released to take action? Does Tim Cook think that a massive leak of this scale isn't worthy of Apple's attention? (unlikely) Keeping everything in mind, I can only see two possible scenarios. Apple wants to keep everyone's pallets wet, and they don't want people being swayed away by the barrage of new Android based phones released left and right, so they intentionally leaked the part. Or, this was simply a remainder from one of the many models Apple experiments with, which would explain how easy it must be to acquire (it seems like every Apple blog has their own back plate now). By simply using some basic logic and keeping years of predictable behavior in mind, I just can possibly see how the part represents anything we'll actually see come fall.

Change is not allowed?

So just because the iPhone 2G, 3G/3Gs, or 4/4S have something, it means they're not allowed to change it?

They all have the headphone jack on the top... If these leaks turn out to be true, it will now be on the bottom.

They all had a 3.5" screen... Should this 4" screen not be allowed because the previous iPhone's never had it?

Your thought process is absurd.

No it's not :D

Apple typically refines designs over time. Asymmetric speaker holes at the bottom of the phone? Not very apple-like - at all. I'd expect it from some crappy android device, but not Apple.

Of course Apple is allowed to change and improve their designs, bigger screen, moving the headphone jack, etc.

To me, the speaker holes point to this being a fake.

MicroUSB- New iPhone will be Wifi sync only.. no more cables.

Is that a micro-USB connector at the bottom rather than a new Apple proprietary connector? Wasn't apple being forced to use a standard connector by the European market rules?

Maybe Apple is going to pull a Macbook Air on us... they got rid of the obsolete cd-rom drive, and forced users to use WIFI.

Now the only way to sync the NEW iPhone will be with a wifi connection. They are finally cutting the cables.

As far as accessories, you will need to buy AirPlay accessories only if you want to connect the phone.... or use the headphone jack.

you must spend alot of time cringing, since almost every iphone i ever see is in a case.

The Color of it

if this is true the abrupt black-dark grey-black style is not aesthetically pleasing

That could be the case unpainted or perhaps it will be that same design but molded into liquid metal for the finished product? I think its very likely this is what the iPhone 5 will look like, however they could use other materials to get a different color or sleeker look for the finished product. Like a car with primer on it.

----------

What if they used a magsafe style charger/sync cable for the iPhone 5? That would be pretty awesome.

Well since the rest of the mobile world largely uses micro-USB on their devices, they have little choice but to a) use the same or b) something of a similar size. Europe stipulates the use of micro-USB for changing. I don't think Apple will offer such but will satisfy that issue with an adaptor, however may be they think carrying on with the current dock size was becoming a competitive disadvantage as others could offer more space efficient designs around that area of the phone?

Good point. I ope that it doesn't happen I don't want to have to buy all new plugs I have so many.

I actually suspect the same. Moving to wireless syncing has freed Apple to make some major changes like cutting out the very large dock connector. Of course, I believe micro-USB will be able to do more than charge, but I'm suspicious that the reason they moved the headphone jack to the bottom is for dock connectors that will use the headphone jack for audio connectivity and music controls (just like the iPhone headphones do now).

Exactly what people said about the black strips in the metal on the iPhone 4s. Sorry, I think you're gonna be dissapointed with asymmetric speaker holes.

It's almost like you've never been around for any of the past parts leaks....that were never pulled and always turned out to be true. What has been pulled in the past are leaks of phones found in bars and such, but never individual parts such as this.

Once again, you are confusing entire phones with parts. Apple has only made a big deal out of entire phones being lost/misplaced/stolen.

The more I look at this design, the more I like it.

I hope it turns out to be real.

i do haha. I know that most people have to have cases because they drop their phones. I treat my phone better than i treat most girls.

I actually decided at one point to go without, but then it slipped out of my hand onto the asphalt. Scratched up the metal, no broken glass. That's when I decided to always have a case. I use a bumper, so it's about as close to caseless as possible.

What makes it easier to pull the phone out of your pocket with the jack on the bottom? The phone with the jack in use would presumably be upside down then, rather than right-side up. I would never presumably put my phone upside down and that is one of the most annoying features of the iPod Nano/Touch, for my tastes.

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.

What i meant was that if you have the jack on the bottom, when you pull your phone out of your pocket, keeping the phone facing downwards, the text will be facing in the right direction for reading.

This is handy if you want to quickly look at your screen but don't want to pull your phone all the way out or bring it to normal reading height level.

I hope that makes sense. I don't think i've actually explained it very well.

Analog anything. It doesn't matter if the phone has bluetooth or AirPlay if it isn't supported on the other end...

I'm not here to debate the need for the dock connector anyway. I was just pointing out the other poster was wrong for suggesting the dock connector was just USB.

Just a question for interest sake...

Why would you want analog output?

I can see this used in audio docks - but that is mainly due to the fact that Apple restricts the filesystem. It would be plain simple to mount the drive via USB and get a hold on the MP3s/AACs directly to play them back.

But apart from that pretty special use case scenario (keeping up Fairplay DRM that can only be decoded on Apple hardware) I really don't see another use case. If you have any further use for that legacy proprietary connector fell free to post it.

My TV is early 2004 and still has a USB 2.0 port and can decode a variety of digital formats. I guess this still applies to TVs...

...and on a side note. I'm on Samsung's Android flavor and just to let you know - AllShare was there way before you ever thought about AirPlay. So actually you can wirelessly stream any media from a variety of devices to new Samsung TV sets.
