Great. Well too bad that I've changed my two and a half-year old battery before testing it. Actually I've tested it on the new one and from the 1430 designed capacity I've 1400 with only 16 cycles. It might be normal but I actually think that the battery drain is huge. I'm afraid it's related with Facebook app and iOS 8.2. Anyone experiencing the same?

Where do you check battery cycle on an iphone ?

I use an app called "Battery Doc". It shows total load cycles, current charge state in mAh, and maximum capacity in mAh.

My battery rating has been inconsistent over the past few days though, because the program has been claiming max capacity as low as 900 mAh, and as high as 1400 mAh, depending on temperature of the phone.

Hrmmm...

My 4S doesn't seem to bad? My 6+ is still full capacity so no point posting that.

It's a launch device. edit: Or so I thought, that manufacture date doesn't add up. Hrm.

I just put a new battery in my 5, even though it says 93.4% design capacity I am very happy with it :)

It's not the capacity that's the worst part.

Mine is a remanufactured iP5.

My launch 5 was a complete dog, I was glad when the battery started falling over when it did, as the anodising was coming off the bezel (in a CASE), insufficient oleophobic coating, loose power button, the screen clicked, the usual.

Reduced capacity I can handle, the will it/won't it die after 20-30%, is less tolerable.

This morning, I found the phone dead. My bedroom was cool last night, but no lower than 13-14 celcius at this time of the year. I knew it had charge, and after warming it in the bed, it was back on with 22%. It's always been sensitive to moderately low temps, not even close to freezing outdoors in the wind, although doing it indoors is rarer.

My original iPhone, bought in 2008, will still reliably run down to 1-4%, and that thing got hammered for 4 years.

5 seems to have more battery issues like that than many other ones. There's even a recall for quite a few of them in relation to battery.

my iPhone 5 which was bought in October the year it was released shows 91% while my iPhone 6 that was bought last November shows 90% already o_O

5S still going strong, was purchased September 2013;

CycleCount: 459
DesignCapacity: 1550
FullChargeCapacity: 1500
Status: Success
BatteryCurrentCapacity: 74
BatteryIsCharging: true
ExternalChargeCapable: false
ExternalConnected: true
FullyCharged: false
GasGaugeCapability: true

I don't actively try and look after the battery, but seems to be doing well.

Same here. I've checked it with ibackupbot and battery doc. But the result is still inconsistent.

One restore later

Interesting.

I noticed that my iPhone's usage statistics were about a GB less than what iTunes was claiming (same thing with my iPad Air - maybe an iOS 8.3 upgrade issue?) so I did a full restore and coconut is now going me these stats;

The same battery was reporting as low as sub 70% capacity the other day.

I'll find out soon enough how accurate this is, make me wonder what's messing up and/or what is accurate. If this is actually correct, then I don't need a new battery.

Wow, looking at some of you people's stats, mine seems legendary! :D
I still find it weird tho ... so many cycles and still strong at 1300

PS: Using an iPhone 5, just got it about a week ago...

I wish...

My iPhone fails the serial number test (alledgedly "fixed" remanufactured handset from 2013), but the recall is on till January, so I might go to a store yet and see what they say, on a good charge I get 4 hours, usually it craps out sooner and the percentage is anything from 50-0%

In fact, and because it might be hard to adapt to many of us, uninstalling Facebook App will give a new life to the iPhone 5 battery. No matter how many Facebook related services you unable, it won't help that much.

Actually, after uninstalling Facebook and Facebook messenger, I kind of got a totally different iPhone.

Hello all.
Thinking of going to the local Apple Store to complain about this refurbished iP5S I got last month, which has now 27 cycles and already a 1400 mAh max capacity compared to the initial 1500, according to both coconutBattery and Battery Doc. So it started below standard specifics, and it is getting worse already.

Problem is, the policy, at least here, is to give away refurbished phones instead of simply repairing the part. Old phone's battery was just PERFECT, max capacity still after 250+ cycles- only the receiver/ear speaker needed to be replaced (or maybe just cleaned!) as it sounded muffled and too low. I knew I could be walking into this, and it is really annoying. New phone lasts around 15% less than the previous one, which with my light-medium usage means having to carry around a charger most of the time. Bugs me to no end!

Anyway, back to 1400 mAh after 27 cycles: you guys think it's normal? Anyone has had the same experience?

Pretty sure these readings are basically estimates based on voltage and all that, so they aren't really exact and can fluctuate as well. 1400 out of 1500 doesn't seem of a large enough difference that it would really indicate an issue specifically.

Hello and thanks for your reply.

Considering these facts,

  • the previous phone could easily last through the entire day, usually with a 10-15% battery left as it was time for bed;
  • this one systematically dies around dinner time, which means about an hour of usage and two-three hours of standby;
  • I haven't changed my charging or using habits;
  • it just so happens that doing the math 1400 is 1550 minus 10%,
there might not be an issue, but BRAND NEW batteries should have a BRAND NEW capacity and stamina, and if it isn't the case, then it's POOR QUALITY CONTROL and a company like Apple should take care of their customers.

We'll see!

Update: took the phone to the Apple Store, where they ran the diagnostics without finding out any problem except I saw in a cycles/capacity graph that comes up in one of their diagnostic screens that the battery was indeed at around 90% SOH (State Of Health).

They essentially told me nothing was really wrong with the phone, but I absolutely refused to keep it, and I insisited I wanted a new replacement.

They were kind enough to proceed with another substitution, and guess what? Have used the new phone for a week now and the battery just WORKS. SOH reading is sometimes 1500, sometimes 1600. It does fluctuate, but it indicates that the battery is pretty much at full capacity.

One thing I noticed is the previous replacement had a manufacture date of late 2013 (practically upon launch) while this new replacement was manufactured August 2015, just now basically.

To anyone who experiences battery issues with replacement units, don't settle with them just because they are 'brand new'.

Cheers!

I've had my iPhone 5 for a couple years now, but I stopped using it to try other phones. I started
using it again for about 3 months now (I'm waiting for the 6S). The battery really drains when I
use it. The other day when I was using navigation for a 2.5 hour trip. It took it down to 10%.
I am not going to get another battery since I will be getting a new one soon.

How does this look? I've had my iPhone 5 since January 2013. I still have the original battery, and up until about a week ago it was going all day on one charge. Now all of a sudden it drops mid-afternoon and dies unless I charge it.

I think the difference on the capacity is large. Calibrate the iPhone.

Ugh... let's just not talk about my battery. It is horrific.
Can't go anywhere without my charger and sometimes it just shuts down at 40%.
Glad that the iPhone 6S is almost here, so that I can finally return to the S-cyclus!!
