This is my replacement phone for the battery issue but its showing the same characteristics of the first one (horrible battery life). I'm wondering if battery drainage is due a an app that hasn't optimized for the iphone 5 or ios 6. i guess i will see tonight as i did another restore setup as new, and no third party apps installed.

I wonder how many of you with high usage numbers are listening to music with your screen locked. When I sleep, I listen to SleepStream.app with the screen locked. It only uses 10-15% of my battery but it counts towards my usage. If you just left music playing through your headphones, you could likely get days of usage (not standby). I think this is the reason for some of the high numbers. These people couldn't possibly be getting 9+ hours of solid use with the screen on the entire time.

I am at 9h44m of usage and almost 3 days of standby and none of that usage is with the screen locked, so I beg to differ.

13% heavy 3G browsing , watching 11 mins of Simpson, screenbrightness 20%.
7hrs usage and 11hrs standby. Its 12 now when iam writing and I'm pretty sure this last 10 percent won't take 1 more hour.

I was shocked at the rate my iPhone 5 discharged; compared to my 4S, there was no comparison. The 5 was discharging at an alarming rate. Like dead by noon rate. Scary!

I researched it and saw others were in the same boat. So, I went in and turned off everything that was location-based I could live without.

One was LTE, it is not available in my area (Columbus, Oh) with AT&T yet.
Another was the location settings in the camera; I turned them off, too.

Set my mail to not push constantly, but I could manually check it just by opening it up. Works for me.

Lastly, I turned my screen down to approx. 85% of total brightness. You can still see it really well, I hate dim screens.

And now, after 2 1/2 hours, it's still at 96%. What a huge difference!

So try it; turn off everything location-based you can. Hopefully it will work for you, too.

Apparently in settings->privacy->location services, I only have two apps which are find my friends and weather.

What happen to the options for camera, photos, etc etc?

Still trying to figure out the battery too...I am happy with the current set up..2hrs usage, 6 hrs standby and at 70%...but I guess i, as much as many others here, want to increase it to at least 8-10 hrs usage with HSPA+/browsing/texting

It this average? I really use my phone for: calls, Facebook, e-mail (checked often), and application playing around. I 3-4 times a day turn off the applications running in the background. Thoughts?

Your brightness must be crazy low. If I turned off the lock screen on my 5, set it on a table, and walked away, even with no apps running I know it wouldn't last that long.

Please help

if anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
I monitored my usage today in the office and here are the stats.

Time - Usage - %

10:36a - 1hr42min - 76%
11:36a - 1hr54min - 73%
12:44p - 2hr33min - 62%
1:17p - 2hr45min - 59%
2:36p - 3hrs - 54%
3:32p - 3hrs26min - 43%

This is with LTE and WiFi on, locations off, auto brightness. All I used the phone for was light texting, checked two voicemails and majority during lunch with news apps, sports, etc.

the most notable drop was from 2:36 - 3:32pm where I only used it for 26 minutes and dropped 11%.

Please tell me exactly what you all mean by resetting. Do I have to reset to factory and NOT restore after? as in re-install everything and lose all my texts, etc?

also, my office location has piss poor service, often switching from "No Service" to one bar, two if i'm lucky. the work WiFi certainly does not help because I have to reselect the connection to get back on, and everytime I put the phone to sleep it logs me off the connection.

Is THAT the main reason why my battery is getting sucked? I sure hope so.

After two days of usage. Casual gaming, two hours of WiFi and LTE off.

Well after my first full charge on my iPhone these are the results with moderate use (movie, wifi and 4g browsing, YouTube, some gaming, and GPS)

LTE off, push email off, automatic date settings off, location services ON, screen brightness around 30%

Usage: 6 hrs 59 min
Standby: 15 hrs 47 min

Battery is currently at 27%.

So let me get this straight.. once you habe the iPhone 5, in order to maximize the battery life.. you have to keep kiling the battery and charge it back to 100%? about 5 times?

Everyone: What you are getting for usage and standby times on WIFI and what your getting on Cellular data (4G/LTE) are TOTALLY DIFFERENT ANIMALS.

You will see a SIGNIFICANT increase in battery life on WIFI versus Cellular data. People posting screens of their usage data with over 2 days of usage/standby combined are on WIFI most of the time (just look at their pics) - bet on it.

I'm on my second iphone 5 after the first one had serious battery drain issues. Apple is now running a battery profile log on my phone (AND MANY OTHERS!), and I am uploading data to them routinely. There isn't a question of whether there is a problem with the iphone 5/iOS 6....it's only a matter of finding a resolution. Here's a good thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4329696?start=1155&tstart=0

ive had great battery life. With wifi and LTE on the whole time. Wasnt using it a whole lot, but some web browsing and twitter checking. Much better than the iP4 i upgraded from

Hey guys, I need some suggestions on what to do to solve my battery life woes. I think some of you raised some good points and that the statistics are not comparable for those that use wifi and wifi+LTE.

For the past two days, I've been using LTE exclusively and I've gotten only 5 hours and 20 min. before my phone turned itself off. I use only FB, Safari, and have 3 push email accounts. I would say it was relatively heavy usage, but my iPhone 4 got a bit more battery life than this. I thought given the newer hardware and better software optimization, I should get as much battery life as my iPhone 4, but I'm not. It's very frustrating when my phone dies before I get home. I'm not going to carry a charger with me while I'm out.

Doesn't count, your phone was plugged in.

My battery numbers aren't coming up as I plugged it in again but can tell how improved battery is.. Been using it a lot since 10am yesterday morning and still has 23% left

I finally thought I fixes my battery problems as I did a new install off the ios6 through iTunes and used an icloud backup to restore. From 5hrs I went up to 6-7hrs. However again yesterday my battery started dropping within minutes off unplugging. This morning I just walked through the park and loaded twitter and now the forums my battery dropped 5% in 11 minutes. This doesn't seem normal. Thoughts? I know LTE coverage looks low but that just happened on the bus but before was full coverage.
Note: I'm now at 93%

I have auto brightness on and the slider is currently about halfway up, so not really.

Phone finally died last night. Here is my usage. I was very happy with this result.

I'm starting to think the lousy battery life is related to cellular connection.

I lost 1% over 6 hour night, not touching the phone at all, with a wifi connection.

In the morning I left home with the connection switching to 4G (LTE off, Location Services Off). Within 2 hours of leaving wifi connection it dropped 9% and in that time I only touched the phone twice to check battery status.

9% drop in 2 hours not having used the phone?

Yesterday I used turn-by-turn navigation for 10 minutes and dropped 10% in those 10 minutes.

I hope this can be addressed via a patch.

This is a good reference FROM MY FORMER 4S on iOS 5:

Anything less than this is unacceptable in the 5.

Anyone who can post anything better with a 60% charge with an iphone 5.....I want to see it.

Umm, there are a ton of pictures in this thread from iPhone 5s that are on that pace or better. Mostly better. My picture a couple posts up is an example. You are not on pace for 10+ hours of usage and 3 days of standby.
