With iOS 7 beta coming out within the next week or so I am dropping my jailbreak today and upgrading to 6.1.4 to try it out. I know there are no new features or any of that but I am curious about my battery life. I cant remember whether it was much better, or just slightly better before the jailbreak came out months ago.

Will post back

Not upgrading my jailbroken 6.1.2 OS until I'm convinced iOS 7 has a significant benefit or a stable version with jailbreak option. Not fond of one way trips, not upgrading anytime soon.

2 days ago I had a 6.13 Jailbroken iphone 5 for Verizon which was having severe battery issues. I mean I would take it off the charger and drive to work with bluetooth on (1.5 commute) not make one call and by the time I reached my office the phone would be down to 15%. I had 4 tweaks on it...bytafont, weekillbackground, photoalbum +, and instasave.

On Sunday I was a little emotional my baby was leaving for Army bootcamp the next day so in my rush to clean the house before his going away BBQ - I grabbed all the sheets off the bed and put them in the washer with you guessed it....my iphone. 5 mins into the cycle I realized the mistake that I made.:eek: too late my HE washer was in a full cycle. After I removed my phone which by that time was pretty dry but the display was very dim/ it died a slow death right as I removed it. It was over no rice for me. Although I had Verizon insurance I needed my phone immediately so I was lucky it happen early enough so I could make a geek appt.

2 hours and $229 plus SF tax I had a refurb iPhone- (Yes I could have paid 199 and waited a day for my Verizon replacement) ...no jailbreak but I will say my battery life is awesome again. I think my jailbreak went bad, one of the 4 tweaks was killing my battery or the battery was failing anyway.

BTW- This is the first time I had ever lost or damaged a phone since I had cellphones 18 plus years. My next iPhone - probably the iPhone 6 I will spring for AppleCare + and drop the Verizon insurance. I like $50 bucks better than $249

After a couple weeks with my replacement iphone 5 (ATT), i can now say that my battery life is improved.

on the first run through i saw just about 8 hours of usage with 2 days of standby. this was at home over the weekend where i have stronger cellular signal.

during my normal work week where i have to remember to turn of LTE after my commute and entering my office (which has poor LTE penetration and 4G isn't that much better), i now see roughly 6-7 hours of usage with 2 days of standby.

this is with almost all notifications off, mail set to fetch manual, very few location services ever active, and most of my use is browsing/email on my commute (~2 hours total) over LTE/4G with occasional usage over Wifi at the office or home (1 hr per day)

this replacement phone is running 6.1.3. my old phone saw 4.5-5 hours over the same 2 days of standby, so this is an improvement for me.

Took my iPhone 5 to the Genius Bar for the 2nd time, as it died right in front of the genius he could not run a diagnostic but agreed the 5.25 hours of usage was not acceptable and offered to replace it with a refurb or swap the battery.

I was leaning towards swapping the battery but could not wait another 30-45 minutes that he said it would take.

What would you do? Take a refurb or swap the battery?

Yesterday after 3hrs and 40 minutes of usage and 12hrs, 56 minutes of standby my iPhone 5 battery was at 1%. This was all normal usage: browsing, emails, a few short calls, and a little facebooking. WiFi off, Auto Brightness off, LTE and BT on. I've never had issues with these settings for the entire 6 months I've had my phone until recently. While I was using it I could literally see the percentage ticking down. After only an hour of usage my battery was at 66%, I made a comment on a facebook post and by the time I hit the "post" button it was at 64%. And for whatever reason it would get extremely hot after using for only a few minutes for really basic tasks. This is a little ridiculous, I'll be taking my phone to the Apple store for a replacement ASAP. Seems like it's been like this ever since updating to 6.1.4

I've seen that happen before, the cause was an e-mail that was stuck in the outbox. So as soon as that e-mail account was added after a restore, the phone never stopped trying to send it. After having removed it from the outbox via the mail service's web client everything was back to normal. No matter how many replacements we would've gotten, it wouldn't have helped sine the problem didn't lie with the phone itself.

I'm not saying it's what happened to you, but it's well worth a look.

If you've got a mac, you can download Xcode (free), then open it, register your phone in the program (connect it and hit a button, no big deal) and open Instruments. In Instruments, you can (amongst other things) look at which processes are active, how much RAM they use, how much CPU etc (an activity monitor). Take a look and see if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

My experience with sudden battery drain is that it's almost always due to a software error that is easily fixable once the cause has been determined, so check it out if you feel like saving yourself a trip to the Apple Store.

It seems to have been a temporary issue as I was able to use the phone for about the same amount of time the next day without any significant battery drain. I honestly think it's some underlying issue with 6.1.4 because I would never have problems with battery life before upgrading.

I did notice earlier today while checking email the phone started to get extremely hot again. I closed the 15ish apps that were running in the background and that seems to have fixed it...still, it seems a little strange for apps that don't truly "run" in the background to drain the battery that fast. Either way, I'll download Xcode and see if I can find anything out of the ordinary.

The app Carat in AppStore is pretty useful, open it once or twice per day, and after a while it'll tell you which apps are draining your battery. It also uses a huge database to cross check... You know what, I can't explain. Download and check it out ;)

There have been reports of Facebook and Facebook messenger draining the battery quite aggressively, could be worth closing them after each use if you use them.

Thanks for suggesting this app! My phone seems to be having some battery issues, so I think I'll try this app.

My battery has deteriorated to a pretty poor state (on bad days).

My battery jumps percentages. At times it'll decrease just about 3-4% within 1 minute. But what worried me the other day is I was using it at 52% and it jumped down to 24% the next minute. That day I got around 2 and a half hours of usage. Normally that isn't the case, but this does happen every so often.

Now, I'm having an issue where my phone does not completely die anymore. Once it reaches 10%, it just shuts off. At first I thought it just skipped the last 10% of life and died, but when I plugged it back in it did not give me the red battery as a dead phone would normally give. Instead it acted as if it were being turned on. I got the Apple logo immediately and then the phone started up at 11%. So now I can't even recalibrate my battery.

Not to mention it does overheat with light internet usage. I say light in terms of within 5-10 minutes of surfing the web, this thing can be scorching!

I ran a diagnostics online and Apple reported back a 'Power Issue'.

My nearest store is 4 hours away in San Antonio, which I will be coincidentally vacationing there next week for my birthday. I'm thinking of stopping by and seeing what can be done.

I usually get around 4-5 hours of usage on my iPhone 5. I mean, it usually lasts the day fine, but I turned off a lot of the location services stuff and usually turn off wi-fi when I'm out or at work. Brightness halfway, bluetooth always off, etc. I'm not sure if I get good battery life or not.

This is what I have right now. Sometimes I'll be at like 95% after this much usage.

I have calibrated my battery recently, the last time it died at around 15%.

Today I'm at 6 percent battery life after 3 hours 39 mins usage and 10 hours 5 mins standy. That's totally unacceptable IMO.

What's worse is the battery drains insanely quickly - almost jumping - at percentage points. Earlier today it went from 38 percent to 22 percent in about 10 minutes. I close all apps, have locations services only on for Google and FB, don't have Bluetooth on, and have full bars on 4G (LTE kills it even quicker).

Can I take this to the Genius Bar? I don't have Apple Care, mind you, but have had the phone around 8 months iirc.

Yes the iPhone has always disabled the WiFi radio.

It is still connected to the network, even though it doesn't show the icon when it's asleep. If you look at your router's settings, you can see the times it's connected to the access point. If you lock your phone, yeah the icon goes away, but it's still connected.

It feels like I'm charging my phone constantly.

Workdays:
Charging
100% at 7AM
70% at 10-11AM
Charging
100% at Noon
15% at 9PM
Charging

Would consider myself as "poweruser". Email, messages, social networks via LTE, listening to music both iTunes match and on device saved.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

My iPhone dramatically fluctuates it's %... For example:

9:00am - 85% - 9:30am - 45% reset phone - 81% 1/2 hr later back in the 40% range. Plugged phone in to power source instantly jumps back around 80%.

4:50pm - 24% battery, make phone call and 30 seconds into call and it dies completely. Waited 5 minutes and the phone turns back on @ 18%.

I have done all of the "battery saving tips" I can find but the symptoms remain. Is it time for a genius appointment?
