This makes me extremely happy. I cannot WAIT for this thing to take me on the speediest of rides.

HAHA

The yet-to-be-released iPhone has a mere 41 points more in the benchmark than the S3, a difference that nobody will be able to notice, but Samsung is DEAD.

Your logic is flawless.

I wouldn't say they are dead; but this looks to me or any tech enthusiasts ..that apple focuses on details not only on the outside, but also on the internal engineering.

Anyone can dump in 3000 + mAh worth of battery and claim that their phone has the best battery life; but making a thinner phone with better performance and battery life? That's innovation.

What I consider MAJOR is that most apps are single-threaded while the benchmarks run on all the phone's cores.

This puts a HUGE difference (up to 50% speed) between an app running on iPhone 5 or on a 4-core GIII.

iPhone4s was already fluent and fast, iPhone 5 will obliterate competition! :D

The S3 is quad core, the iPhone is dual core. In practice very few applications, especially on mobile, take advantage of a quad core CPU. Geekbench is an exception. In practice this means the iPhone has a much larger performance advantage than indicated by the benchmark.

Obliterated? With one benchmark score higher by 2%? While at the same time offering 2x RAM, NFC, simultaneous voice and data, wireless charging, higher screen resolution, higher memory capacity. It's pretty clear that SGS3 is a superior phone.

and also THICK.

It still is a catch-up device that only brings minor improvements to iPhone customers.

New iphone 5 is a leapfrog over the competition device not a catch up....Minor improvements ? Um, no...All the preorder numbers do not agree with that selling out in 1 hour vs 22 hours for the 4s....

I'm more interested in how much faster the iPhone 5 is than the 4S. I was going to skip this one, but I may change my mind. (I also want to see what real-world battery life is like with the new iPhone.)

The negligible speed difference does not magically turn the iPhone 5 into an innovative, visionary device. It still is a catch-up device that only brings minor improvements to iPhone customers.

Your reality distortion field is too strong.

NFC right now is pointless. Just a waste of space. Same with wireless charing - it doesn't give you any more convenience. The phone makes no use of the higher screen resolution, just makes things bigger. GS3 is just a spec whore. Aside from that, it's average.

Wow.

Two cores running @1.02 GHz each outperforming S3. Engineering people, engineering.

This is all less about specs and more about engineering.

Apple has just integrated elements of next gen ARM licenced technology. Its hardly APPLE! Its ARM and their Q3 availability time table of these licensed technologies.

A15 cores are ready to go in the next flagship Samsung Phones with Exynos 5 which will wipe the floor with the A6.

Apple iPhone 5 1601
SGS3 1560

In the scheme of things, how much faster is a factor 41 please? I ask this because I don't know the answer.

Not much faster. I think the point being made (or alluded to :) is that the iPhone 4S was already perceptually competitive in speed to other phones and it was only 1/2 the performance we'll see with the iPhone 5.

So what solution do you propose for a better comparison? all companies should release their high-end smartphones in the same month or something?

You are missing the point here. The iPhone is able to pack more power and more battery life inside a smaller enclosure than those atrocious samsung huge phones.

I'm not missing the point. If the iPhone didn't exist, I'd simply not buy a smartphone at all. I like that the iPhone has a nice design and a great OS, and although Android phones are OK, they're below my threshold. I don't care at all about the specs.

I'm just saying that, for the sake of pointless spec comparisons, you can't compare an iPhone 5 to an S3 to show that one company is better at making fast phones. Nobody should be saying stuff like "Samsung just got pwned" because they didn't (if you are talking about specs). I think Samsung got pwned when it comes to design and user experience.

Wha-? "Larger performance advantage than indicated by the benchmark"? Keep dreaming...

Of course NOW the benchmarks don't matter. How pathetic can some people be. LMAO

Well I'm going to speak for myself, but I couldn't care if this thing had a score of 99000000 instead of 1600. What this does for me is help to emphasize that specs truly don't matter, but end results do. And the Fandroid I'm talking to can't just blindly throw up some number and claim another device is better just because that number is bigger.

So again, specs don't matter, but what I and other people are excited about is the fact that it nulls many Fandroid's arguments that they have used against Apple products for a long time.

For all those curious about the S4 Krait variant of the GSIII, the HTC One S runs the same CPU at the same clock speed but the iPhone 5 still beats them both.

GSIII S4 1201
HTC One S 1258
iPhone 5 1601

Both chips are custom fabs

Except the A15 cores are optimized for server use. Ah well, time for Sammy to go to the drawing board or use an 8-core processor on the same architecture :p

Heh. And then the A7 will wipe the floor with the Exynos 5... Rinse, repeat.

And of course it is Apple using and customizing ARM technology. It's both. Just like it will be Samsung and ARM.

Yeah, does anyone here realize that the iPhone 5 is newer than the S3? It hasn't even been released yet. If the benchmark was showing a faster Samsung phone that is newer than the 4S, you'd all go apes***.

Give me a break, the Galaxy S3 is Samsungs flagship phone for 2012 until 2013 when the S4 releases. Everyone laughed at the 4S when it was getting beat by the S3 in these tests and said "Wait till the iPhone 5 is out, and let's retest." Well that day is here, and Apples dual core iPhone 5 is outscoring Samsungs quad core S3. No matter which OS, or phone you prefer, you have to admit that's pretty darn impressive!
