LOL! Can't see Android fanboys here anymore. I guess they have gone hiding in some cave now.
All the while they were crying and moaning like it didn't have Quad Core CPU, 2 GB Ram and stuff, but hey, you just got nailed Android fans, iPhone 5 kicked every Android smartphone' **** :D

Guys, you're going to be hugely embarrassed when another Android phone comes out that is faster than the iPhone 5.

LMAO @ this being faster than the S3! I cannot wait to hear the responses of the S3 fanboys that ONLY care about specs.

Great job, Apple!

At the end of the day, the specs don't really matter. The user experience does. However, the fact that Apple equaled the CPU power of the S3 with half the cores running at 2/3 the speed, and likely consuming less power is pretty impressive.

Yep, that's a terrific summary. If the experience with an S3 was better, I'd buy one, it's not like we're talking about some exotic entry price to pick one up ...

It's all about the software, as SJ used to say that Apple is software company, and Google is closing in fast. My user experience on iOS and Android JB is similar. Still there is a midget of a screen on iPhone5...

Microsoft is a software company. Apple is a hardware company that makes its own software. I believe Jobs' comment was actually that it's all about the integration of the hardware and software.

What's interesting is that Microsoft and now Google and Amazon are entering the hardware space in a much bigger way. They have validated Apple's strategy.

Except the A15 cores are optimized for server use. Ah well, time for Sammy to go to the drawing board or use an 8-core processor on the same architecture :p

Jog on.

A15 elements are already in the S4 and A6.

Big little implementation will make A15 cores serious performers

But i wouldnt expect some Apple fanboy noob with 3 months on the Apple forums to understand.

The transistors must be smaller than A5, but I'm still wondering how a 1GHz Dual-core can go that fast. Damn, Apple you did well.

Give me a break, the Galaxy S3 is Samsungs flagship phone for 2012 until 2013 when the S4 releases. Everyone laughed at the 4S when it was getting beat by the S3 in these tests and said "Wait till the iPhone 5 is out, and let's retest." Well that day is here, and Apples dual core iPhone 5, is outscoring Samsungs quad core S3. No matter which OS, or phone you prefer, you have to admit, that's pretty darn impressive!

I don't see anything impressive about a new processor being faster than an old one. I will only be impressed if/when the Android phones in the months after this are slower in benchmark, but I doubt that will happen, hence the "impressed".

I think Steve Wozniak has 0 months on the MacRumors forums.

I can guarantee you that it will be highly probable that any smartphone released after the iPhone 5 will be faster. Already phones released 3-4 months ago are only marginally slower than the iPhone 5.

Based on how "fast" a lot of the competing Android phones run even if equipped with high spec CPU hardware, I doubt it. You're confusing the "phone" being slow with the raw speed of the CPU. You'd be hard pressed to find an Android phone that does its general functions faster than even the 4S.

The benchmark takes advantage of the S3's quad core CPU, yet the iPhone still beats it in the benchmark with a dual core CPU. Most software is not written to take advantage of a quad core CPU. The advantage goes to the iPhone here. If you had any programming experience at all you'd know why that is.

I have a lot of programming experience thank you very much and what you've just said doesn't make much sense. First of all a single-threaded application will also run slower on a dual core CPU. Secondly since software for both Android and iOS are written using a rich API integrated directly with the OS, most apps can take advantage of a multi core CPU, because the OS does so, and so do engines like Unity etc..

i sure hope that the a6 is on top of the bench score....... you guys do realize it IS the latest phone on the block. it's call leapfrogging. the next android phone will be faster than the A6... after that, ip5s will be faster... yadda yadda... get the point?

all this "mine is bigger than yours" is getting to be nonsense.

I don't think Apple fans who are pleased with this result actually care that in a short while the next Android will surpass it. Its only meaningful because the hordes of Android fans on this forum (which I totally don't understand), were adamant that the iPhone 5 was a disgrace because of so called underwhelming specs.

This is just a little bit of good oll rubbing it in.

Someone soon will be testing the Note 2 against the iPhone 5, just wait for it. But if you don't understand the significance in a dual core phone beating out a quad core phone, you're probably in denial.

LOL. Poor Fandroid can't just admit that the iPhone 5 is that fastest phone on the market. JUST ADMIT IT.

How to put it... That's simply not true.

I have both a 4S and a Galaxy Nexus. Galaxy Nexus seems at least as fast as the 4S, it actually loads websites faster.

Obliterated? With one benchmark score higher by 2%? While at the same time offering 2x RAM, NFC, simultaneous voice and data, wireless charging, higher screen resolution, higher memory capacity. It's pretty clear that SGS3 is a superior phone.

Except none of that matters. Total user experience is what matters. Apple knows this, and the iOS iPhone combination has resulted in the highest marks for customer satisfaction of any smart phone. Which is why I'll stick with Apple. Android will ALWAYS be playing catch-up, it was created to catch up in the first place. A company that takes the risk in the first place to introduce a brand new way of using a smart phone, and continues to refine it earns my respect, and loyalty.

That's why Apple doesn't radically re-design the iPhone that often - it's already great! First time I saw an S3 in person it looked ridiculous. Is that a phone or a tablet? Don't want to carry that monster around.

all this "mine is bigger than yours" is getting to be nonsense.

Normally I would agree but according to Samsung the next big thing is still the Galaxy SIII which appears to be slower than the not next big thing iPhone 5.

Not true. SJ said that Apple is a software company and some other things like Apple is not big in search that's why they are using Google search, etc. In the end it's all about the software and user experience. Of course bigger screen real estate cannot hurt.

agreed. engineering-wise, it's a great feat. consumer-wise... i don't care. if it's fast, great.. regardless if it's dual core or quad i don't think most people care about this type of pissing contest unless people are hardcore fanbois.

Catching up = still behind.
In this benchmark, iPhone 5 is ahead, so it's _not_ catching up.

I was thinking that "catching up" meant "improving while previously behind". It's like Apple is just about to leap ahead of Samsung in a theoretical sack race. I say "just about" because the iPhone 5 has not been released yet. I doubt Apple will maintain a lead in benchmarks for long.

Let me stress that I don't care about these meaningless benchmarks or specs at all. The only good this does me is that it can handle a Minecraft server, which I kinda want to host on an iPhone just for fun.

and also THICK.

It's not thick. It's just ugly, and the OS is poor by comparison.
