yeah man, sorry. the good news is that it looks like Best Buy is finally starting to get some stock now. hopefully yours will show up in the next couple days.
plus, it looks to be like 170 miles one way from QC to Madison so you'd be blowing a ton of $$ on gas. but, if you really are serious, you could try calling BB mobile support at 1-877-702-2211 and explain the situation and see if they'd allow the switch if both of us showed up in person at the store. i haven't called them to let them know i cancelled the preorder yet.
 
Picked up my Black AT&T iPhone 5 64GB today... Got the manager to take $60 off my total purchase for my troubles!

I STILL don't have an iPhone. I ordered the same model as you over 3 weeks ago :mad:

I was the first in line at the store on the 14th for the pre-order. The mobile manager guaranteed me a phone since I was the first to place a preorder at that store.. On release day, got the bulk email that morning about how my order was placed on backorder. Went down to the store and spoke to the mobile manager about how they botched the preorder. He told me that he would try to find me one and that he would call me on the 22nd and let me know what the status was and of course, he didn't call. Left multiple messages on the 24th and 2nd of October to various managers and no one called me back, they didn't even call me when the phone came in. Got the "your order is ready for pickup" email. Spoke to the mobile manager about how they failed at customer service. For their ***** up, $60 to me! Squeakiest wheel gets the grease!..

I'm not even mad. I'm actually impressed at the level of incompetence on a cusomer service level best buy is now at.
 
Has BB started selling i5s outside of preorders yet because I just checked their website and there are about 4 stores in the Chicagoland area that have the 16GB white i5 in stock for AT&T?

The other day we recieved a shipment of about 40, for some reason the geniuses who designed this process thought it would be a good idea to just release a batch email.

So about 40 minutes before closing we had 30+ people trying to purchase and activate phones, a process that takes 15 minutes minimum. Guess how big our mobile phone department is?


3 ****ing people.

This company needs to die already. It sucks for the customers and its even worse for the employees.

TBH, no one in our store understands wtf the company is doing with iPhones until they show up (at some of the most random hours I've ever seen).

Yes. I bought 2 16gbs yesterday at my local BB by going online and checking stock
 
I just got an email from best buy saying my preorder was ready for pickup. Took them 3 weeks to get it and I was the 1st on list for a 64gb. I picked mine up on launch day from at&t and wasn't going to get it at best buy but at the last minute decided to snag it for my gf's upgrade. She only needed a 16gb but oh well... By the way both phones had zero defects outa the box and mine from launch day is still free of "scuffs".:)
 
Finally gave up. Cancelled my pre-order for the 64 GB and bought a 32GB on the spot. :(

Oh we'll..... Saved $100. Now to decide. AppleCare+ or best buy warranty with trade in program?

Best Buys Geek Squad Protection on phones is worthless. It's done through a 3rd party, it takes forever, phones often come back wrong or broken/defective. Not worth it. Go AppleCare+ or Squaretrade. Or keep in mind what Apple charges for a damaged or out of warranty repair, it's not bad. You could skip the extended protection now, and IF something does happen to it, then pay Apple for a replacement. Unless it gone up, which it may have, it was only $200 to get a replacement phone.

Yeah honestly it all sounded good and even comes with the buy back program (which I can still buy separately) but the lady said if my phone breaks I get a "loaner" phone that's an android while they fix my iPhone. NOPE

I used to work for them and I can vouch and say that they can't control inventory. They can place orders to have items sent to them, but it's up to the manufacturer to actually send that many units. I agree, Best Buy shouldn't call it a pre-order, it's more of a reserve when available. I'm still waiting. They had over 180 pre-orders, they got 40ish. They just started getting daily shipments in store this past week at the store in my area so I may get one soon hopefully. Apple will have more inventory than 3rd party stores that's for sure.

Was this an out of contract phone? If it was, was it $60 on top of a price match for their $50 markup? Because then you only saved $10.

Nothing at all. Cancelled my "reservation" for the 64GB. Whatever. I don't even want to think about it anymore. Maybe I'll figure out what the whole deal about iTunes match is.......

sorry y'all are having such trouble! I am on Sprint and the Apple store really has not been getting any of those in. I went ahead and did the $50 gift card at the Sprint store and it came in in four days. :) Do At&t or Verizon do anything like that?

You bought a 32GB from BB that wasn't reserved?

A buddy of mine just called a local BB for me just to see what they had and sure enough they had 64GB black AT&T 5s. Wish they had a 16.
