iPhone 5 Best Buy Preorders

If you're expecting to be compensated with a free iPhone 5 because your preorder hasn't come in, well, good luck with that.
Again, good luck with that. Best Buy should tell you to go pound sand.

Those waiting in eternity and are not tied to BB for various reasons, should seriously check Apple's website after 9:55 PM every evening until you find the phone you are looking for and after you have an order confirmation from Apple, you might consider returning the gift card if it isn't of any use to you at the moment.
This is exactly what I did and I guess I was lucky to find a phone at an Apple store the very first day that I checked. To save some time and ensure that you get a phone, I would suggest adding the phone to the cart after selecting all options and have it ready for check out. Doing this will save you about 3 minutes and possibly get you ahead of someone else trying to order the same phone.

You should blame Apple equally for not improving their supply chain. iPhones are dropshipped to Best Buy stores directly from Apple's distribution chain. Best Buy management has little to no control over how many phones or which models their stores receive.

Seriously, if you live in the middle of nowhere, you should already be used to being treated like you live in the middle of nowhere. Just keep checking all your options (Radio Shack, Walmart, Target, AT&T, perhaps even Sam's/BJ's/Costco) while you wait for that email from BB, or order online through Apple and know you'll have it in November.
I road tripped to STL last weekend and was unsuccessful in my pickup attempts there.
I've only really tried AT&T and Best Buy, guess I should start calling those other places.

Yeah, the road trip is only worth it if you've first been able to reserve for store pickup through Apple's 10pm lottery. Otherwise it's just a larger game of roulette.
RS doesn't have an advertising budget anymore, but the stores still exist and their #1 focus is mobile phones. They got screwed just as bad as BB but you still might get lucky.
I picked up at an Apple store 60 miles away. I had already planned on being in the area last weekend, so I ordered on Thursday and picked up on Saturday. Like forty2j suggests, it is best to have an order confirmation and preferably the ready for pick up e-mail before you drive 200 miles.
I was thinking more along the lines of something like a $10 gift card. And this is referring to the "within 28 days" part of their email which would mean they go over the parameters they set.
So I just got my "ready for pickup" email. 28 days was just a buffer. For me, it was 13 days.

I just got an email and a phone call from Best Buy to come pick up my 64GB AT&T iPhone 5. I ordered it the first day they were available and was 2nd on the list for this model. This is the first shipment they have received of any 64GB phones. Now I need to figure out how to leave work early.

Went on their waitlist on the 24th for two iPhones, and received the email today to pick up the iPhones. I also signed up for the Best Buy $50.00 Phone Freedom promotion back in February. I now have in hand two 16gb AT&T white iPhones for $300.00 + tax.
I preordered my 32 GB black AT&T from Best Buy the morning preorders started and got it on launch day. The guy at my store said they got 80-90 in that day.
Still nothing........ I went into the store yesterday and the girl said they "just got their orders through" for iPhones which means they should get some in 1-2weeks.

Means they've been ordered by the store for a while but been actually waiting for a shipment from Apple. Looks like they are finally getting some. Blame Apply who is giving their retail stores preference over 3rd party retailers.
Yea, my bb still has not received any iPhones. So you cannot order any as they still need to fulfill preorders when they come in. She said they were due to receive some 28 days after the release?

well, some two weeks after launch, i just got my pick up notification from Best Buy for the 64GB black iPhone 5 i preordered.
the strange thing is that on lanuch day, after i got the notice my Best Buy iPhone wasn't in, i walked over to AT&T and picked up a white 64GB with no line or anything, a little after 9am. later that day i went back to Best Buy and cancelled my preorder and returned the $50 gift card they made you buy.
i guess someone didn't get the memo.
so i guess i could return my white 64GB for black now, if i were so inclined, since i'm within the 30 day return. but i'm pretty content with white now.

I still haven't heard a peep from bestbuy. I preordered early and was the only person on the "list" with a black 64gb... I did end up getting a white on launch day a block away from at&t but just exchanged 2 days ago for a black. Would've liked to purchase at best buy because I have $140 in rewardzone bucks...

but, i'm not sure how that could work. i can't buy it & sell it to you because i've already used up my upgrade with AT&T. it isn't unlocked, so i don't think they can sell it to me without setting it up through AT&T.
