I agree. It's time Apple moves on to 4" but keeping the external dimensions close to what they are now and weight also down.

Apology accepted. Next time you should do a bit of googling before replying like an arrogant know-it-all prick. I'm not trying piss in your cornflakes, I'm just explaining the practical problems with your desire for arbitrary (as in useless - see below) screen size increase requests.

You obviously have absolutely no development experience; I'm not going to hold that against you, but you need to understand a few things:

Xcode and Interface Builder do not accomodate scaling. It's not like on a PC or Mac where you can stretch windows. Interface Builder aligns things by measurements based on the total (fixed) screen size available. Apple would have to fundamentally retool Xcode and Interface Builder to accomodate scaling, and even if they did developers would still have to rebuild their apps because most UIs (by the way they are designed) would break if scaled to a larger width and/or height than they currently are designed to accomodate.
Oh, I wasn't apologizing. ;) I do thank you for this explanation, though. The above paragraph explains your point very well (even without calling me a prick).

I've played with the Evo which is pretty big, but then I also tried the Droid X which is massive. The Droid X is kind of a pain to use one handed with your thumb as the screen is too tall.

I think that if Apple does make a larger-screen phone that it will not be as big as it's android counterparts. If they keep the same aspect ratio while also reducing the height of the top and bottom bezels the device won't be much bigger than the current iPhone, but still having a larger screen.

4"

As long as the physical size of the phone isn't bigger. I think the iPhone size is great the way it already is. I don't want to be carrying around a brick in my pocket (i.e. see HTC EVO).

Saying one size is better than another is like saying green is better than blue
People have their own opinions, tastes, needs, etc.

Some prefer a larger screen and have their reasons
Some prefer a the current screen and have their reasons
Neither is right or wrong... just different

One person holds a phone and says "too big"
Another holds the same phone and says "perfect size"
Which is right? Neither

Buy the phone that has the most features you desire
And realize not everyone looks at things the same as you do

By the way... blue is better than green
And the current size is perfect

Exactly my thoughts. If they could add a 4" display and keep the actual size, that would be perfect.

I'd be ecstatic with 4.3" :D

But I would settle for 4.0" :)

If it remains 3.5" I will be extremely pissed

It must be 4.3 to compete, since all top line Androids are going go be 4.3" this year.

I have a small iPhone 4, plus a 4.0" & 4.3" Android models. It's easy to see why 4.3" has become the standard size on premium Android phones. The phones still slim & compact, with an amazingly beautiful & spacious display.

I'd like nothing better than to see Apple go to 4.3". If they fail to, I'll pass and enjoy my new 4.3" HTC Inspire as my primary smartphone.

My iPhone 4 is good enough for iTunes & my music.

The additional advantage will be giving Apple a year to catch up.

It's all good... :)

Ahh the beauty of choices, as provided by Google, Android, and HTC.

Thankfully we have Google. The pace at which they innovate is truly amazing.

No wonder Apple displays fear & paranoia when the topic turns to Google. They have every right to be concerned.

I found it very revealing that in reality Jobs lame excuse was medical leave, only to read later he's at home frantically trying to decide how to compete with Android.

With Google breathing down his neck, it's no wonder he's sequestered.

If they come out with a 3.5 display again I'm not going to get the next iPhone version. It's clearly too small and it's time for a change. We have had a 3.5 display for 4 years straight.

I would be happy with 4.3 but would be satisfied with a 4' display.

With the competition at 4' displays and higher I seriously doubt Apple would fail miserably with a 3.5 display once again.

....dunno if anyone else has mentioned this but surely, if Apple do make the screen on the iPhone 5 bigger/smaller - all the millions of Apps out there will have to be re-written and updated to support the new size.??!

.....can't see that ever happening - thats why I reckon the next iPhone will have the same screen size ;)

The biggest they can fit in the same form factor (I'd guess c 4 inches)

Until folding or rolling displays become a reality I still want to get the darn thing into a pocket! :D

I like the iPhone 4 just how it is, it's the perfect size to be portable and just big enough that you can see everything you need to see on the screen. (at least for me) There's tons of other phones out there that have larger screens if someone needs a larger screen. Heck, you could even buy a Dell Streak if you need a screen that large. I have my laptop if I need to see something larger.

For everyone saying 4" screens will make a massive phone, I would suggest you go try out the Samsung Captivate at the store. My friend has has one and I've spent a lot of time with it. It's barely larger than the iPhone. Hardly noticeable difference at all.

In addition to that, it has a rounded back. This fact alone makes it lay in your pocket better than the squared off iPhone 4. It's also nicer to hold. In the end, it's a wash.

I personally feel 4.3" is to big for the average joe, but I really see no down size to 4" (as demonstrated in the Samsung Captivate). They really nailed it with that phone.
