I'd be ecstatic with 4.3" :D

But I would settle for 4.0" :)

If it remains 3.5" I will be extremely pissed

You're setting yourself up for failure. There is absolutely no reason to think it'll be a larger display.
NO, he or she is NOT.

The person is expressing their preferences which mirror mine, with one exception.

If Apple continues to be closed minded and they stick with a tiny 3.5" screen on it, I will not buy one.

I've been too loyal, and they'be been too ignorant. Look at all the Android phones with 4.3"

I have a 4.3" Droid X and it's ideal.

If Apple goes to 4.3", and it is capable of functioning as a reliable phone, I will buy one and happily promote it to my primary smartphone.

No please NO!!!!

The iphone 3gs and 4 are absolutely the biggest phones I (or my wife for that matter) am prepared to carry round. Even they are too big IMHO, the 3GS especially being a bit of a porker. For one thing they're just not pocket friendly as clothes designers seem to be getting minimalist on pockets these days. And for a second anything wider or longer is like holding a brick, i.e. not hand friendly. We may as well go back to the old bricks phones if screens get much larger, or use an ipad-like device as a phone. Not only that but larger screens tend to have an impact on battery life.

Anyone who is trying to use a phone for more than 'on the run' stuff when out is using the wrong device IMHO. Get an ipad or better still a Macbook Air (or a netbook for less cash) and use that for more in depth stuff.

Or even better buy a different phone if someone is offering you the right size screen for what you want. If you're happy with your HTC, or whatever, running Android or Win Mobile then why even look at an iPhone 5?

Just be happy with whatever you choose but please Apple not a bigger screen else I will have to stick with my iphone 4 and that would never do as getting the next gen iphone is one of my favourite treats of the year.

Fortunately I doubt they will increase the screen size (unless they offer two sizes) as they seem to have invested a lot in developing the RD. I suspect that, as with previous iphones, this screen will last for a generation or two to help cover R&D costs, etc.

P.S. I tried out my super miniature Nokia 8310 (great little phone from years ago) that still works perfectly, battery and everything. It made me appreciate small phones again. Put it in your pocket and forget about it till it rings, and you certainly know with the 8310 as it has a fearsome vibrate function!!!! :D

So you want a bigger idevice which would give you a larger screen?

Again at the present device size there's only room to make screen longer and it would look out proportion if screen was same width but longer length.

Am I correct or not?

If Apple (Steve) decides against at least offering the option of a 3.5 and 4.0 + bigger screen

Because the other guys decided to "Think Different" before him

And conceding would be a bruise to his ego

Then that will be sad :(

I doubt the form factor changes

+1. Of all of the predictions that can be made regarding the next iPhone, I think that this is the most solid and logical. I am willing to put money on the fact that we have the current form factor until 2012.

4" would be fantastic. Obviously, the device would be a tad bit larger, but the extra real estate would be awesome.

Depends if they change the form factor of the phone, if they change the resolution, and if they make more things fit on the screen, or they just make everything bigger.

There are ZERO substantial rumors to suggest the next iPhone will have a larger display. Expecting otherwise is either ignorance or stupidity.

No where have I or others indicated the iPhone 5 will have a bigger screen.

Calling others ignorant or stupid is insulting and considered an instantly bannable offense.

This is the only forum I frequent where I see so much arrogance and insults.

Please have respect for others!

Thank you

Will iPhone 5 have a larger screen? ... No
Do I wish that it would? ... Yes

Apple makes a lot of sales based on the compactness of the iPhone. The HTC EVO and Droid X look huge to some people and they simply won't buy it. Personally, I'd love a 4" or 4.3" screen, but it'll never happen. With only one phone model, Apple has to hit the demographic sweet spot, and that's not geeks who want more screen real estate for browsing, email, games, etc.

I say absolutely not. One of the things I like the most about the iPhone, and one of the biggest reasons I'm switching to it next month, is the form factor. It is the PERFECT size for a cell phone. Not too big, not too small. It's the same size as my Droid Eris, which I also chose because of the form factor. Anything bigger is just annoying.

The Droid X, the HTC Evo... yes, they are powerhouses, but who wants to put that in their pocket? I have other things I need to put in my pockets... keys, money, etc. I also like to be able to sit down with stuff in my pockets. I don't need a freaking PSP in there.

So if they increased the screen size for the iPhone, they would definitely have to increase the phone size, and I would definitely not want one. I don't care about this ppi, blah blah blah crap... I'm talking about physical screen size, and I think 4.3 inches is way too big for a cell phone.

It's still kind of early don't you think? Lol

As for me, Yes I hope we get a bigger screen. It wouldn't be a deal breaker for me though if we don't. Software is the most important aspect for me. I guess we'll see in June!

I'm perfectly happy with the size of the current iPhone. Of course I don't wear a fanny pack everywhere I go, so I might be in the minority on this topic.

Even if Apple was considering increasing the screen size, it probably won't happen in the 2011 release. Version 5 probably won't be a big upgrade, sort of like the 3GS. We'll probably get some extra speed, antenna adjustment (if the verizon iphone is any indication) and probably bigger capacity. Big adjustments are more likely to happen with even year numbered releases.

Would I like one? Yes. Do I think it will happen? Nope. Owell, there are other phones out there. I like the iPhone, but it's deffinatly not the end all be all phone people make it out to be. Considering my iPhone is my main web surfing device, and I'm not a midget or wear skin tight jeans, I want and can handle/ pocket a slightly bigger device. I'm gonna see what apple puts out this summer, and if it's not something great, I'll probably jump on the android bandwagon with a bigger screen.

I bought the iPhone when it first came out to access the internet.

I had a Razor before the iPhone.

The iPhone was marketed as "The internet in your pocket"

The first thing I noticed was I had to enlarge and scroll back and forth to access each web page.

This is more like "The hassle in your pocket"

And yes I do have the iPad which is perfect for a laptop replacement.

Some said Apple would never make a smaller Air.

I do not consider myself a geek and the EVO fits just as easily in my pocket as the iPhone.

If I just wanted a phone, I would have kept the Razor.

Yes I want a bigger screen!

I was over at Best Buy yesterday and decided to take a look at all the phones on display. Unfortunately they were all dummy phones, so I couldn't actually test them out. What I did do, however, was just hold each of the larger phones to see how they felt in hand.

I thought the Evo was too big. If I want a screen that big I'll buy an iPad or a NGP. So I guess 3.8 would suffice. Nothing bigger than 4", though. The Evo is overkill, IMO.

I have a DroidX with a 4.3" display. Until you've actually owned one, you don't realize the increase in the size of the phone is minimal. In terms of real world usage, it's so much easier to text, write email, and use finger gestures on a larger display.

I also have a Captivate with a 4.0" screen & find the 4.3" size of the Droid X the best size.

With Apple's excellent engineering skills I'm sure they would make an iPhone with the 4.3" size as small and sleek as anyone. Why knock it till you try it?
