They didn't mention anything about durability. Everything they said is true.

As others have said, the issue of this thread isn't really durability. With a few exceptions, everyone that has posted here is talking about damage that happened before the phone was even removed from the box.

My phone has scuffs on the antenna bands. I have no way of knowing how those were caused. It obviously wasn't from use or wear-and-tear. It also seems safe to say it wasn't just from someone handling the phone while packing it.

IMO, whatever has caused the imperfections goes beyond simply an issue of durability.

i found this video it looks like the back is actually pretty resilient to me

sand/debris is what scratches alot of phones, people dont realize putting a phone in a empty pocket wont protect your phone from scratches if you have dirt and debris in your pocket it will scratch the phone even glass

the chamfered edges are defitnetly more prone to scratches and zings then the back though

Factory: F1 (China, Zhengzhou - Foxconn)

From the looks of the earlier post, most of the good ones came from C3 factory.
I don't think so. My two from C3 are both scratched.

It's not black all the way. I got mine scratched earlier today. It's a black layer then it's silver. Can't post a picture because am posting this through my iPhone 5.

So let me get this concept straight.... They have enough phones to send replacements for all these phones with issues. However they do not have enough phones to fulfil orders previously placed or to place phones in stores.

Amazing....

For those of you who have received your replacement phone after calling customer support or Applecare, how do you know if the replacement you're receiving is the "white box" replacement or the "retail packaging" one?

Because it is sealed in retail packaging

Retail packaging

Nice. Is there any indication anywhere (online or in an email)? So far I have gotten a "Product Replacement Request" email with a repair ID number from AppleCare, but that's it.

Edit: Side note, its express replacement, they took my CC info, and I should be getting it within 3-4 days.

Mine was perfect.

This thread is BS, guessing that a lot of the Andriod owners are voting for ***** and giggles.

lol no, I was pretty open and honest when asking questions, we were talking for over 20 mins, had a good laugh.

The lady I spoke to said some people really think they deserve freebies. She said they either want to keep the box and headphones with the stickers and just send the phone back. Or they say: "Oh my son/friend/sister accidently dropped the phone on the way to "wherever" guess I can't send it back now"

She also stated that Apple will offer freebies if a customer is particularly upset , freebies such as the free lightening adapter etc. But even then some people "want more" and "Push their luck"

The way she acted, it was no big deal to Apple, that if the phone didn't come back, they were not going to beat it out of you in court or charge your card. They will simply send you a bill that will ultimately end up in the trash and forgotten. It's bizarre how trusting they are and I don't think some thieving idiots deserve it , they will end up ruining great customer service for everyone else.

I think it's awful the lengths people go in order to "Steal" - she knows I will send mine back, I don't particularly like huge companies for reasons I won't go into as it's off topic, but I don't steal either.

I agree! the trust is admirable, and there's no company I know of who would ever do that. The way I see it, Apple is trusting you to uphold your end, they are giving you over a week with two handsets to play around with or make your mind up with, and they chuck in freebies, make everything as easy as possible by sending a courier to pick up the other phone. So why steal from them?

I hope you get to play around with both phones too! they certainly give you enough time to make your mind up :)

My replacement isn't showing on the order status page on Apple.com? They sent me an email yesterday with my order (replacement), the lady from Apple said to ignore the shipping date as it'll come earlier but the order number is identical to the one i'm sending back and if I click the link it takes me through to the originally shipped iPhone (the one i'm sending back).

Bit confusing as I can't track the one coming to me or see it anywhere.

How is/was yours handled if differently?

Yes, because your single phone is representative of everyone else's device. Great thinking.

Notice all the "complainers" just register Macrumors Sept 2012!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

My initial phone was nicked and the four replacements I was shown in the Apple Store were all nicked as well. Did I join MR in Sept 2012 as well?

[insert three rolleyes emoticons here to prove my point]

Dont understand why you would call everyone a liar. There's no smoke without fire.

Well, Im one of the complainers and Ive been registered here for two years. Its the apple-"can do no wrong"-misguided-persons that are trolling when there is clearly an issue with these phones out of the box..

I have no doubt there are some rather sad people who find amusement by voting on this poll whilst owning an android phone.

However, I don't believe it's skewing the results to any great effect, in that the percentages are staying remarkably consistent as the number of respondents grow.

From near the start they have been around 36% out of the box damage and 10% damaged very shortly thereafter.

There was also a report earlier where someone had seen returns paperwork in an Apple Store quoting figure of approximately 30%. We are approaching almost half of the phones exhibiting damage on this forum, but in the wider world, people will not pay as much attention as the average member does here, so 30% seems fairly accurate in context.

(taking aside the fact that this was a single report).

I got two super nicked up whiteys yesterday! I know this is a black thread but it's semi applicable to recent posts about potential fear mongering.

Because I asked and was reassured it is a retail boxed unit being sent from China.

Instead of logging into your account to check status, go to the status page, type in your order number with zip code and try that. Mine shows up that way.

I just picked up my reservation and it's a week 34 with 2 scratches on the edge and the camera is not lined up flush.
So much for this being new stock, they are either taking stock from the contract phones or moving them around stores that need them.
Worse still the genius said, " go and PLAY with the computers while I wait." I am 39 years old and was standing with my 8 year old son!
But I am going to keep it because there is no light-bleed, the buttons don't shake and there are no dead pixels.
I guess you just have to take the best you think you'll get.

I have a 2-3 tiny nicks and one of them the black paint is gone so it is kinda white, it is minor and I know it ll eventually get scratched....I went to the store and I was looking at the white one and somehow it is harder to see imperfections since there is no black paint.
