I had the white 4S but in my opinion the black iPhone 5 is just amazing, scuffs be damned. It has a dark, futuristic vibe to it, a stealth look. It really brings out the magnificent screen, the focus of the device. It really enhances the illusion that you are manipulating the content with your fingers, as everything else is obscured in the deep blackness.

While the white 4S was a beautiful object, as the white iPhone 5 is, it's the black model that is most powerful this time. Like a mysterious object that is difficult to identify, it stands as a monolith to technological progress.

Got mine replaced (16 GB black). The replacement isn't perfect but it's tolerable. Gonna put a case on it ASAP.

The guy who picked up my phone asked me whether it was scuffed. I was a bit surprised by this. He said he's had 5 returns because of scuffed phones today in my city (which is small). He said that his colleagues in a major city near where I live are actually working overtime because of this.

Now what do I learn from this? NEVER be an early adopter for an Apple product.

We all are beta testers and all the 100 countries in december will get the actual product at there launch :D

do we have 14 days or 30 days to return/exchange the black for a white?

...bump. I'd like a response to this as well. I do know that Verizon has that 14 day return policy, but Apple's 30 day policy may supersede it. I'm contemplating exchanging mine for a white one also.

if you bought the phone from verizon, you cannot return it to apple so it is 14 days.

I'm an apple user. But lately I have the S3. Most people don't like because its a plastic. But the build quality is perfect actually..

Iphone 5 dented/scratched on sides from right out of the box

Hello everyone,

Anyone else has this issue on the current iphone 5 black or white. I am tired of replacing the phones ..4 times already and 3 times is in store where the rep opened it for me and right in front of his eyes I showed him the dent/scratch. It minor but still not "APPLE QUALITY".

I agree, it is not as bad as people make it out to be. Is it the quality of an iphone? Of course not, but no phone really is.

How should I address this situation. Any suggestion folks?

My work schedule is very hectic and cannot spend weekend @ apple store just checking out phones or having them shipped from apple with a hold on my CC. Also transferring data to a new phone everytime is a pain. Its really getting on my nerve. 4 phones swapped but all have issues.

I have exactly the same issue but there's no other choice.

Well my 3rd IP5 has strong yellowing to the top of the screen, in addition to scrapes around the sim tray, and loads of small bits of residue on the back, which wont come off no matter how hard I try.

Apple can do one. I'll have a nice cheap 4S off eBay, so they dont see a penny of my money. Pathetic quality control.

here's my advice... if yours is pretty good, keep it. I've had 3 replacements, each has had their issues. the 3rd is tolerable, but still has two mini dings and a piece of dust near the home button under the glass.

If i could do it all over, i'd have kept my first phone. either wait a few months until hopefully the QC improves, or keep what you have.

It's just not worth the hassle...

Here's my advice.

Don't tell people what to do with their damaged extremely overpriced gadgets.

You all remember this right? Shouldnt be shocking that apples aluminum cases waste away. Im just hoping that theres no permanent damage from absorbing who knows what through my skin.

overpriced? don't see where you come off saying that. mini dings or not, i'd take the iphone overall quality and feel over any cheap feeling plastic Android device. yuck.

Wait, so you think just because Apple provide better quality devices, that they arent overpriced?

Yeah, that extra 44GB of flash memory was definitely not overpriced, it only cost me and additional £170.

I'm more inclined to question what is coming out of your skin to do that.

agreed. Anyone who think they are not overpriced is just ignoring what is right in front of them. Premium price, premium product pretty much will always equal overpriced no matter what you are buying....phone, car, tv, etc

I got my iphone 5 replaced at the apple store and my replacement is in worse condition than my original.

The sim tray is a much lighter color as well.

How much are the shipping fees to do a replacement via mail?

You should not of left the store. I think they have a perfect stash in there and you have to complain to get it. At least that was my experience. replacements should not be scuffed at all since they have been tested.

Just thought I would provide some input. Just picked up my black model today, and it is virtually perfect. Two needle-tip-sized marks on the back (that are very difficult to catch in normal light) as well as a tiny bit of silver at the front, on the flat part just before the plastic gasket around the glass. The rest, perfect. Extremely happy (and relieved, given my Apple experiences in the last two months, with cracked glass on a brand new iMac replacement and two brand new 4Ss that looked like they had been dropped), and while this doesn't necessarily mean that things are getting better in the production process, I hope that things get better for those that are having issues.

So... its not virtually perfect then ;)

So my girlfriends black 16GB was 100% pristine when it was purchased Sunday just gone.

Just now I had a quick look over the phone and it has two nicks. One on the top of the phone & one on the bottom. It has never been in a pocket with keys or in a bag. It's always been in a micro-fibre lined sock bought on day one.

She hasn't dropped it, caught it on something or anything that'd cause the damage. This is quite concerning as this has happened to a phone that has been babied since day 1 - Yet there are nicks already. I dread to think what it'll look like in 6 months to a years time!
