Have there been any new reports of all this "skuffing?"

White or black looks jacked up if you drop it on concrete or get a deep scratch. However, it is unreasonable if the black iPhone 5 finish deteriorates during normal operation and use.

no think we have to wait until people actually get the phones and be actual user reviews and more in depth tech reviews.

interesting fact about cases for iphone 5.. if going to protect from Scuffing don't get a metal case.. Not that I was but figured I pass it along..

On another note do not use any case that has metal. In the Apple release to developers they had their full spec sheet and parts of the IPhone5 they specifically said not to cover with metal. I will post this link to apples site when I get home as well. Stick with silicone, or rubber.

Pocket-lint posted a close up of the scuff. Makes me sad, I really wanted the all black one.

problem I have with that is you spend $100 for for AppleCare+ then you spend $50 on replacement. Now if you didn't have the service you pay $200 flat($50 more). I only see this as worthwhile unless you think going break two phones. :apple:

my thoughts exactly

1. Relatively unknown site somehow acquires iPhone 5
2. The no name site scratches aforementioned iPhone 5 and blogs about it, sparks "scuffgate" to get more hits to their unknown site.
3. ???
4. Profit!

Bad idea to anodized the banding...it will show dramatically if the coating is not thick enough.

I'm thinking twice now...

I agree. Sucks already ordered a dark knight model.

If i use my black model, and it scuffs like this for instant, will get annoyed. (I understand its a phone but still). can i return the phone and get a white model within the 30 days? possible?

Just as others have posted, I can't deal with that scuffing. What is the process for exchanging this thing? I'm expecting it to be a massive pain in the butt because they're all backordered...

No, but at least I will be looking at the manager and saying here is a device I bought from you that I want to exchange within my 14 day right. If you do not have what I want to exchange it in stock, you cannot hold me to the 14 day return policy. I'll take a raincheck on the white phone. Really don't care how long it takes for them to get me one...I just want to exchange it.

here the idea for return..

That just doesn't make any sense. The internet is all kind, wholesome people who want nothing more than to help others.

Now does this Pocket Lint site sell the Sandpaper Cases or does someone else know where I can buy one. I want my new phone to have good grip!

30 day for apple to return (opened) and get white model? or 14 days?

The site clearly states 14 days for everything but the iPhone (which is 30 days). Therefore, the iPhone is on a 30 day return policy. I, for one, am not going to even bother and will be at the store as soon as I receive my 32 gb/black model. If anything, I want to try and get on a list of some sort for a white model.

After getting all hyped for the release, this is nothing but a downer.

My old iPod nano is that black finish. It was been used and abused with impunity. Basically an exercise iPod with no case/bag ever. There are no minor scratches apparent. There is one scratch from being in my pocket with keys.

The only noticeable marks are where it has been dropped--usually on concrete. Minor scratches are visible on the apple logo. Although, that portion appears to be silver.

It will be because Apple will not accept returns of iPhones that were ordered online.

OK - I just got an early delivery on my black iPhone5 - awesome looking and great feel with the longer screen.

However, scuffgate is real - after only a few hours of use there is a black substance that rubs off and the silver colored material underneath shows through.

It looks like hell

So, I recommend that all of you cancel your orders fast - go for the white one.

Do it quickly - that'll move my order for my black 64GB up in the cue and I'll get it sooner (for real this time) !!!

I plan on using it until the 30 days are up, and deciding then, they probably wont have any white phones available until then regardless.

After only a few hours you have a black substance rubbing off yet no one at Apple caught this through numerous product testing nor was it mentioned by any of the reviewers AND you're telling everyone to get a white phone yet you're ordering a black one anyway? Hmmm.....I call BS on this.
