Resale value.

I just got $400 for my non-scratched 4s because I put dual screen protectors and a bumper on it. It is the original phone with marching box serial number.

This is why I take care of mine and still use it daily without treating it like a newborn.

How did you avoid the chrome surround getting scuffed with bumper on it?

Both my wife and I have the bumpers on our phones and they are scuffed from dirt and debris getting trapped inside...

I use the clear protectors on the front and back too, just took them off, glass is perfecto...

i was concerned about the black wearing off, whatever if it is ill just take it back, apple is good with exchanges and warranty

I plan on using the bumper and decalgirl stickers to protect mine.. Decalgirl doesn't have ip5 in yet but got on mailing list. Generally cheap and does good job with iphone 4S in holding resale value.

i love how the background continues onto the vinyl

If we are going to call this thing anything, can we please call it SLATEGATE?

Scuff gate sounds utterly retarded. k thanks.

who gives a fck if the phone scuffs

its a phone jesus
do you people cover your automobiles with clear bras too

its ridiculous the amount of people that are so obsessed with clear covers, cases, zaggs, all that crap

I dont feel so bad having my all glass 4S :D

With all due respect guys, Apple ditched the glass because of complaints of it shattering, being too fragile, etc

And now without the glass, they are going to get complaints about scratches!

If it aint glass, it's gonna scratch easier. If you don't want scratches, case it or put some clear shields on.

or the stickers (decalgirl) or invisible shield.. both work well protecting from trapped dirt ect.

well I would if I sold them every year on eBay. :)

really dodged a bullet there.

lol..

This is partly why I went with the white. I think the black looks classy, but white it is, because I just "Knew" or "had a feeling" that the black iphone 5 is going to have scuff issues.

As soon as I saw the finish of the black model, I made my choice.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with cases or screen protectors... we want to protect our devices for one reason or another. Don't pretend to know or generalize everyones rationale for doing so.

Take my situation for instance. I fully intend to get a new phone every year. I've set my contract up so that one of our two lines will be eligible EVERY YEAR. You may think someone like me wouldn't care much about the condition of my phone (other than for resale purposes) because in a year, I'll have a new one. But I take care of my phone so that I can pass a a very much "like new" device down to my wife who appreciates me taking care of it. I'm not anal about my phone just for sake of being anal. I have what I consider to be a valid reason to take care of it.

Perhaps I don't fall into the "obsessed" category in terms of caring about cases and protectors, but I do read a lot about them in an attempt to make an informed decision regarding what supplemental products to go with.

Is it confirmed gorilla glass?

Well question isn't if gorilla glass but where it is gorilla glass two. I remember for rumor postings a month ago it was 2 and so guessing (no confirmed) it is 2. Which was BTW.. pretty damn resistant to even keys in the example.

Not sure if its true but it makes sense Aluminums silver in colour so any coating will rub off in time thats why the smart people buy the white version this time round I admit the black looks better but it has to be white because of this issue. I've had an Element case on my 4S for a year its anodised and guess what its rubbing off to leave silver underneath.

Well, according to Rick Santorum, you'll never vote for a republican.

you're using it wrong. just put on a case.

Ironically, cases are often the causes of scratches. I've had a case on my iphone4 and the steel band is scratched up from dirt getting trapped between the case and the band. My 3GS was also in a case and the only scratches it ever got were from dirt/lint trapped under the case.

you're using the case wrong.

well, maybe not...

My wife's phone had a case on it and it's all marr'd and pitted up from crap getting inbetween the case and the phone. My old phone was like this too... The only resolution was to take the case off 2x per day and clean everything out (compressed air came to mind). Eff, that....

The case protected great against drops but I honestly think that it would have been in as good if not better shape VISUALLY by not having a case on.

every case is differnt though. My otterbox commuter has a soft rubber inside so anything that gets trapped in there typically pushes into the rubber more so than pushing into the phone body which would cause scratches and pits.

I have had the same thing on my latest Gen iPod classic, i have never dropped this device and it has always been in a Apple Sock, this happened roughly after about 5-6 months of everyday use.

I am curious as to how they managed to do this is only a couple of days but i am also worried that this could happen to us who have waited well over a year for this phone!

Exactly this.

It's a phone, people. Take care of it. If it gets dropped and scuffed up, that's YOUR FAULT. Not Apple's.

"Scuff Gate" is stupid and not a thing. First you complain about the glass back of the 4/4S, now you're on this scuff gate nonsense. The iPhone 5 isn't going to be heavily damaged if you drop it ... it's got Gorilla Glass 2.

If you really want to 100% protect your shiny, elegantly designed new phone THAT BAD, but a case on it that completely compromises the elegance and design of your phone. Either that or JUST BE CAREFUL.

Really, I've had every iPhone. Never once have I broken one. Those of you complaining must be real klutzes.
