so what's everyone actually DOING about it?
Calling Apple?
Calling carrier?
Nothing?
I called Apple this morning and my replacement is due to be shipped out in the next 2 days

If preordered and being delivered today from the AT&T website, what would be the best way to exchange for white? Can you just go to the Apple store? Do you think they have "exchange" stock to swap it out?
I can see it now.
Lots of idiots that put their phone in their pocket with keys and coins, scratching their phone up all to hell, then running to the Apple store to return their phone and swearing up and down that it came that way.
Fedex just delivered!!!My black 16GB iPhone is flawless! No scratches, scuffs or anything.
As a test, I tried to scratch my fingernail in an inconspicuous area like around the volume buttons and near the antenna rim and it did not make a mark. So I'm thinking (hoping?) it may not be as easy to scratch or scuff as some others are seeing or thinking.
I'm still going to continue to use it for a week as I'll be away anyway and if I notice it not holding up once I get back then I might exchange it for a white, but right now I'm thrilled!!!!!

You can of course read the full and official refund policy on the Apple Store website... but yes... as long as it's in "like new" condition (mint basically) and you have all of the original packaging, manuals, cord, ear pods, etc... you can return it. But I'm not going to bother. I've decided not to even open mind. I'm just gonna send it back. New order for a white one is already "being processed".
did you go white?
People should start documenting which week their phone was manufactured according to the serial number. Then compare that to which phones have the scuffing issue.
Nah I was going to ask you the same thing. Wanna hug?

Mine has 2 dents/nicks and a scuff out of the box.

That's a good idea. In the keynote video Jony Ive said this was their most complex and ambitious manufacturing process to date, so perhaps they don't have it perfected yet and there's a bad batch or something. Otherwise why would some have a perfect phone out of the box and others showing scuff marks?
