That hardly represents reality - reacting to such little sample size or bogus initial impressions is the ESSENCE of CHICKEN LITTLE.

Glass breaks,
Plastic bends,
Metal scratches (or whatever),
Wood rots,

I think you've taken my post out of context...

regardless though I was saying that these things DO happen, not having even a smidgen of concern is just turning your blind eye to the problem.

Literally out of the box. Different angles showing the one nick on it.

Just called my local Apple store after deciding the nick showing silver would drive me crazy. Rep apologized and said they had heard this from a lot of folks today. He's holding me a replacement until I get off work.

Definitely call your Apple store. Sounds like they have a ton of stock so they just may be able to get you a replacement today.

And for those earlier saying this poll is skewed b/c people will come here to complain...you're right, but it works the exact opposite as well.

If my mom had bought this iPhone I have, I guarantee she wouldn't have noticed a thing. There are many out there who probably bought the phone, made sure it worked, and the proceeded to go on with their day.

Small scuff top right antenna band. Black 16GB, manufactured week 36.

I'm pretty OCD but I can live with this.

I was squeegeeing my screen protector on (btw it sucks. never buy anything from zagg. waiting for Power Support) and I accidentally hit the side with the squeegee which is actually the hard, thick plastic kind. Nothing happened to the paint.

Good to know. But it's not paint.

No, he's saying that the phones are flawless now, but that is ultimately irrelevant. The finish on the black model's bezel is NOT durable.

Good for all of you with the flawless phones. You'll be welcomed to the scuff party soon enough.

It's not durable. You're stating that as a flat out fact. A few hours after the phone was released. On a site that's a noted magnet for ... obsessively detail oriented people.

Yeah.

Flawless out of the box. Now scuffed up and down the sides along the edges. It hasn't been face down and was in my pocket for 5 minutes. No other items in the pocket btw. Not happy.

Not so good to know! I suspect this issue is inherent in the design and materials and no a manufacturing thing. Hard to get anything to "stick" to a sharp polished edge.

Honestly, I wasn't looking for scuffs when I unboxed so they may have been there already...

Just got mine in the mail! I'm friends with the RA working the front desk today and he took me in the back to show me the shipment FedEx just brought our apartment complex. There are like a dozen little brown boxes filled with iPhones sitting back there hahaha.

Now I just have to decide if I want to open mine yet.

Just out of interest, has anyone had/seen reports of nicks in the chamfered edge in the White version of the iPhone 5?

Just voted. Flawless black 64 GB.

My camera lens rattles though

I know I know, it's "normal" and it's a property of the lens inside. My wife looks at me like I'm crazy. My 4s did the same (and I sent it back). The brand new replacement 4s did the same but to a lesser degree. It seemed to get a tad worse on the 4s as time went on.

I'm going to ignore it since I know deep down that it's *normal* to an extent but it still bugs me non-the-less

I'm sure it would nick just as much but since it's the same material all the way thorough (i.e. there's no colour layer applied) you would only really notice if you ran your finger along the edge... or if it was REALLY ragged.

Exactly, im going to put on a body skin and then I won't be getting a hard case something like a flexible TPU like case on top and it should be fine

If this tiny small scuff on mine is all I have by the next cycle and when I'm ready to sell this one then I'll be good. Now if things get worse within the next few months or so I'll just take it in.

Just got mine from Fedex (VZW 64GB Black) and there is a scratch showing bare metal.on the edge by the volume button and around the sin card slot. Even though it's blatantly obvious when you look at the phone from the front or side, I don't plan on returning it yet.

After receiving my preordered black 5 this morning I noticed a defect in the lower left band. I went right to my local Apple store and as always they were great! Being fearful of easy scuffing or another defected black unit they let me exchange for a brand new white 5, no questions asked, no restocking fee, just smooth sailing.

They were very apologetic and genuinely seemed concerned. It's nice knowing that when you pay that kind of money for a phone the company and its employees alike stand by their product! Very satisfied.
