I'd have say there is an abnormal problem here, after looking at a bunch of black ip5's in the store. I guess free black sharpies from Apple are in order. That will fix it

They don't make slaves like they used to. Guess all the slaves making the previous iphones got carpel tunnel syndrome.

i dont have scratches but it seems like there is crap in between where the case in the back meets the camera.

measured in microns my ass

I received my two 16GB black and they were and still are flawless after a full day of use. I'll fell better after my Otterbox Commuter arrives tomorrow.

FINALLY got my 32 GB Black...

The scuffs aren't that bad, I dunno... I have one on mind, immediately threw a case on it.

If I hadn't already been to the store twice today (small town, they'd remember me) I'd try to exchange my black 5 tomorrow (they still had some when I went today).

I'm really curious to see how Apple addresses this issue. It seems like it's becoming a pretty widespread issue and Apple may have to give out replacements..

But what about a month from now? Two months from now? The Apple store employee could EASILY say this is from normal wear and tear, therefore we cannot replace it.

In other words, I think Apple's either going to have to accept a lot of exchanges/returns, which would hurt revenues/profits and the stock's share price, but satisfy a lot of customers on the customer service front, or place a cutoff date after which you cannot exchange/refund your iPhone due to 'scruffing' issues, which would probably piss off a lot of customers.

Almost seems like a lose-lose situation :(.

Good luck, post-Steve Apple.

I really am thinking about returning mine for a white one when it arrives. I feel like if it's not already scuffed, it will be easily. I had faith in Apple, but this seems to becoming widespread from a lot of people and seems almost too easy to scuff. I'd rather stick with White and not notice it as much than get the Black one and deal with seeing that constantly over time.

I really hope I can return it to Apple and get a white model.

What's really crazy is how much attention people are paying to superficial, in many cases tiny, imperfections instead of noticing how awesome this phone is to use for its intended purposes.

So ups dropped my 32gb black iPhone at my office today at around 930. Really nice to get it so early and right away I opened it and activated it. Then I carefully inspected it and noticed some things. Piece of dust under the camera lens, nick here, scratch there and a little discoloration on the bezel. Probably sounds worse then what it actually was so I went back to work thinking nothing of it. As the day went on, these imperfections started to get me so I decided to go straight to apple after work. I walked in and told them and showed them. They brought a replacement out, no questions asked. After inspecting the replacement, the employee found some marks and brought it to the back. About 15 minutes went by and finally comes back with one that was flawless. Said it took him a few phones to find it. They have extras in the back for service problems that are not for sale. What I am saying is that if there is something wrong and it bothers you, bring it in. Even if they are sold out they have service replacements for manufacture defects. Hope this helps.

My god that's terrible! Can't believe Apple painted aluminium in iPhone 5 instead of imbedding the color within the whole metal. That way scuffs wouldn't be that much noticable.

On apple's iPod touch 5 page they advertise it this way:
"There’s a reason these iPod touch colors are so incredibly rich and vibrant. It’s because they’re bonded right to the aluminum — not just painted on the surface."
http://www.apple.com/ipod-touch/design/

Why they didn't do the same with an iPhone:confused:

I mean really, what did you think was going to happen if you ran keys up against anodized aluminum ? What would have happened if it was plastic ? Glass was the best solution, but everyone bitched about it shattering. So what should the iPhone be made out of ? Hmmm ?

no kidding! I thought it did better than I would have expected. Guess I will keep my phone away from kinds with car keys.

Holy crap, people are actually getting scuffs out of the box? I suppose I should count myself lucky to have a (for the time being) pristine iPhone. If mine ever got so bad that I couldn't stand it, I'd just get an insurance replacement or something. Although I doubt that will be an issue.

WOW....I thought everyone was exaggerating this whole things but DAMN, just got my 64GB and has two scuffs and one discoloration!!!!! This is really bad, what is everyone going to do, return phones?

The glass scratched just as easily tbh. I constantly had to place my 4/4S on soft surfaces to avoid it. Even the tiniest grain of dirt cause the glass to scratch or dent.

Obviously the key difference is that the scratches were only visible under direct light with the glass.

Wow, that's nuts. Oh, well. Stuck with the black because there's no way I'm returning my phone to wait a month for a white one.

I'll just have to wrap it up like a pecker in a brothel...(Belkin Case)
