Steve doesn't like unbalanced hardware. A wedge design for flagship product????
Or Jon Ives... Historically... How many wedged designs have they produced...?

indeed i cannot imagine this either. Jonathan Ive always has had a love affair with clear (preferably extruded) shapes & perfect symmetry, i cannot imagine them to release such a strangely shaped device.

besides that a symmetric version looks more apple, there's also more room for batteries.

colour me very surprised if this design turns out to be the real thing

Personally, I think that those cases could be the new iPod touch. With FaceTime more widely used, a speaker/mic system identical to the iPhone's seem plausible. They look like iPod touch cases, just oversized. Anyway, I think the iPhone design is flawless! :D

Exactly what I was thinking, what would be the benefit of tapering the device? Let alone a benefit that outweighs the drawbacks? Better to just fill it up with more battery. Smart phones in general certainly could use all the extra battery they can get.

yeah you won't say that when the police or fire company don't come to your house in an emergency simply because you don't have enough money to pay them.

And those that can't pay deserve to have their house burn down. Just nature taking care of those that don't contribute to society and just live off it.

The same thing happens in this hell that we call health care in America. Ask a Canadian. Universal healthcare works. As much as the media doesn't want you to think so.

Again, you can't pay for your health care, do you deserve to live?

Remind me again how tapering is in any way related to homosexuality?

It is conventional wisdom that a plastic or a tapered design will be gay.

There is no need to question it.

Apple will stick with iphone 4 design albeit a bit thinner and thats it.

business? what business do you do which requires a mobile phone? unless you have a low-grade job which requires on-call immediate start working conditions to keep a paycheck, you don't.

Seriously, you can't imagine a non-entry-level job that doesn't require a mobile phone? Just because the 80s and 90s didn't have such jobs doesn't mean times haven't changed. I bet you own (or worse yet, lease) an automobile - why? People got by fine without them in early parts of the 20th century.

For example, my father's position requires him to be reachable almost 24/7 (exceptions would be while flying to a conference or something along those lines). He is provided with a blackberry from work and is expected to be available to sign off (electronically) on certain things that even the person acting in his absence cannot authorize (accepting multi-million dollar contracts, hiring/firing certain ppersonnel, etc...). He cannot perform his job without his blackberry and 3G-enabled laptop. Not an entry level position in the slightest.

Your views are simply appaling. You're basically saying "If there's no room for you in this society that we've contrived, you deserve to die".
Luckily, there are some basic human rights that basically all of us have agreed on and people like you have been kept out of leadership positions since 1945.

Dont like your comment...That is a problem with the world, America bails everyone else out of situations and then when its over and America has taken care of your business. Then you thank us and move on feeling like you don't owe a thing. We need to just close our borders, send our troops home, sit tight and fix our economy and see what the world does without the World Police (America) in your countries...My guess you all couldn't handle it and it'd be chaos! Take care of your own business. America is the greatest country in the world!

Mate, the world would have one massive party if America did exactly that! There would be no chaos, the world would get on without the US interfering just fine, in fact the US would get on better as it wouldn't be wasting aid money to country's who refuse to change.
But that's human nature, don't like it, tough really. The US right now though needs to sort it's OWN house out with the economy before ANYTHING else.

I could continue to spread my views of the facts of life on here, but this is a forum about the next iPhone, not political correctness that is a waste of time discussing as unless your in power, you can't change anything, just argue about it.

I will say reading your comment, you need a lesson in history or you are believing your own media too much!

This is the MOST laughable thinking on this site, that people are seriously uneducated enough to make a statement that ONLY high powered people need mobiles!! hahahahaha.

So just how does the gas engineers, phone engineers, plumbers, in fact every trades person, the car breakdown man, the sales person, the policeman, IT support staff, etc etc etc etc etc etc all get on without mobile phones?

In fact in the UK home phones are being used less and less and are only used for broad band, mobile phones are taking over.

And what about the MacBook Air?

You do have a point though, in Switzerland, we have trouble with the immigrants not working at all and getting paid by Social alot of money just because they have kids and they wander around in mercedes while the rest of us have to pay for them. These people get around 4k a month by doing nothing of their damned lives and not contributing at all. Those deserve to be burned down but this is not a politic forum.

As for those cases, they could very well be the next gen ipod touch case, i really hope Apple stays with the iPhone 4 shape design and not the 3GS design.. The iPhone 4 is just so beautiful i take it out my case and just leave on my desk so i can look at it. With a dual core chip inside and a 4" screen it would be perfect the way it is.

Do you have a Swastika tattoo on your arm by any chance?

As for the Air, it can get away with it's design because it's a laptop, I don't think the same will work with a phone especially as it's used for so many games in landscape. it would feel odd?

I thought the iPhone 5 would HAVE to use mini USB and so wouldn't have the iPod dock connector (as seen in these photos).

Or would Apple have a phone for the EU and a phone for the rest of the world?

They will never get rid of the dock connector, a large industry depends on it. I did expect they would have to add mini-USB. Maybe in some clever way, as part of or adjacent to the dock connector, which already has USB wiring. But then I read that you can still meet EU requirements if you supply a dongle, so they might just throw in a dock-to USB adapter cable.

My final guess though, is that they will someday add a separate USB connector to all iOS devices. iOS already supports a variety of things that can be attached via USB, everything from printers to cameras to MIDI instruments. It can do a lot more than just charging.

Agreed. I have a desire hd but not because i need it and the plan is pay as you go plus i pay $10 a month for unlimited data. People in the US without a dime to their name are rockin iphones with $80 a month contracts and when the US plunges into a depression in the near future due to your crap government it will be the lat thing the repo man will be able to pry away lol.

I guess I'd be bitter to if I lived in the **** hole better known as anywhere outside the USA. You're just another jealous inbreed loser from some insignificant country nobody cares about so you take out your anger on the only country that really matters. If your lucky maybe you can sell your donkey for money to come to America

Wedge Design ? Nah

If the iPhone 5 is a wedge design  , then I for one, will be walking into the nearest Carphone Warehouse and get the cheapest deal I can on an iPhone 4. A5 processor or not, you've still got to use and live with the thing and lets face it, iPhone 4 is actually pretty damned good.

Tapered design? Please say it isn't so. Holding the phone in landscape will feel lopsided. There are soooooo Manu bootleg apple products mare in china who knows what's real.....except Steve.

You're holding it wrong!

Why are they "all over the place?" Who buys a case before they buy the phone? Especially a phone that hasn't even been officially confirmed yet?

ditto! the whole wedge thing would be horrid to hold! ugh i really hope not!!!!

dont really like the tapered style for such a small device. iphone4 looks nice

then again. doesnt effect me. i think mobile phones are junk, and the majority of people dont actually need one. but they have developed some sort of disease where they think they cant function without one.

i wish my marketing skills were as top as the guy/gal who kicked started this obsessive market.

edit: even worse is the shiny/reflective finish which will likely cross-over from the ipodTouch :|

Alright let's go grandpa, time for bed
