Dont like your comment...That is a problem with the world, America bails everyone else out of situations and then when its over and America has taken care of your business. Then you thank us and move on feeling like you don't owe a thing. We need to just close our borders, send our troops home, sit tight and fix our economy and see what the world does without the World Police (America) in your countries...My guess you all couldn't handle it and it'd be chaos! Take care of your own business. America is the greatest country in the world!
You're a comedian, right?

Hey y'all lets go get our guns and shoot em in the air and have a circle jerk! Yeehawwwwwwww!

You sir, are the reason people hate America.

And if you really wanna go there, as an America, it is more than obvious that America only help when there is something in it for them. Or we would be in Darfur, or the Congo. But no, all we want is oil.

I'm gonna laugh my balls off in 20 years when we are running out of oil because we were too stupid to mainstream an alternative energy like...oh let me think...almost every other industrial country is trying to do. America isn't run by the government, its run by the industry it's supposed to govern. It's a joke.

apple saved me a ton of cash, i was waiting to upgrade my 3GS, but with the gay tapered design I'll just mone up to the 4 that looks awesome.

So if it isn't obvious yet, it won't be the iPhone 4S i suppose.

These cases could easily be for a knock off phone. Asian businesses in general have no respect for look and feel and will rip off any fashion trend to sell product. This "new form factor" may be for a knock-off, iPhone-style Andriod phone.

You sir are the reason why socialist governments don't work. When a socialist government starts seeing a private group do a government function better than some over-educated, well connected bureaucratic buffoon, they try to shut them down via 1) over-taxation, 2) environmental regulation or 3) "activists" making up anything to justify violence that is not investigated or the charges are dismissed on a "technicality."

So the oil runs out. Big freaking deal, private industry will switch quicker to something else that meets market demands more than any near-infinite group of socialist committee meetings to have some salary bitch who should be thrown on the street happy.

A good example of a government bureaucracy getting its ass kicked is NASA. With the Shuttle gone -- thank god! -- the privately owned replacement vehicles are in orbit in the middle of shake down as I write this. Next the ISS is replaced with private space stations and we start to buy and sell space in orbit like condos.

I want to see the same happen to health care, police, firemen and social workers.

really? janitors and fire fighters? both are generally set-hours and you seriously think a fire-fighter uses a mobile phone to be alerted about fires to attack or the other things they do?

on-call work is like F&B attendants/kitchen hands who work crap hours (albeit good pay). Factory workers, construction workers or self-employed low qualified electricians etc who work out of their car doing dodgy work for low-income households.

edit: the only industry in the world which has an upperhand on the mobile phone world, of taking something consumers didn't need and turning into a false necessity is the bottled water market. even the cosmetics and beauty markets are below the mobile phones and water markets. although they deserve it, because they gain by hurting people

I can see you don't know what you're talking about there.

yeah you won't say that when the police or fire company don't come to your house in an emergency simply because you don't have enough money to pay them. The same thing happens in this hell that we call health care in America. Ask a Canadian. Universal healthcare works. As much as the media doesn't want you to think so.

lol. yeah man... people the 90s/80s and before were all lonely losers who didn't have any friends.

business? what business do you do which requires a mobile phone? unless you have a low-grade job which requires on-call immediate start working conditions to keep a paycheck, you don't.

As a marketer for UMG, and on contract for Polydor, and AVEX. NO executive will text message you anything, and anywhere you go, one of the first things which are said is "put your phone on silent or get out".

It seems to me, all these "social things" for "friends" don't actually go anywhere and sit on FB and text message each other what they ate for lunch

edit: but dont misunderstand me. people like me love mobile phones and FB. we are taught and encouraged to embrace those markets, as it is super-cheap marketing with high-yield rates to suck money out of the fools with our dirty tricks :p

This guy is a joke.

hmm

I agree. Tapered shape is not cool for landscape use. Please say it ain't so Steve. I was really hoping this would be the year to upgrade my 3G. I WILL wait for iPhone 6 if we get a tapered iPhone 5! Seriously.

I don't see what the issue is.

If you're holding the phone is such a way that you notice the taper, you're holding it wrong.

Keep the politics off Macrumors, especially if you're going to write such BS

Hmmm

Maybe it's the iTouch with optional phone?

I would be sad about a tapered design for iPhone 5. With iPhone 3GS, I find it flipping out of my hand with on/off. Even though it seemed boxier and jarring at first, the iPhone 4 that my wife has feels great and solid in my hand, especially the side buttons.

For the guy that feels that cell phones are sort of useless...I totally understand. I felt that way about cell phones. But, I run a small business and basic e-mails and contact info has saved our company a good deal of mistakes and frustration. I was completely unorganized though, and the iPhone was a simple convergence product for me.

We will all see the iPhone 5 in September, I guess!

Remind me again how tapering is in any way related to homosexuality?

Your comment was off topic, but when I said "gay" I was speaking to a smaller HAPPY go lucky look. I like the beefy rugged look of the 4, so with that said I'll pick up a beefy version 4 when the mark it down..

I'm not a big fan of the smaller is better movement..

Mark Gurman from 9to5Mac posted this as his twitter icon earlier today. Could this be the iPhone 5?

That's one of the worst photoshop jobs I've ever seen.

Back to OP: I'd be very pleased if this is the new look to the iPhone, but I'm still doubtful: Apple would be admitting that the iPhone 4 design was a huge mistake and I just can't see that happening. The iPhone 4 will become the new Edsel.

Now, if this new design included a larger screen, that's their excuse to change things up. Win win.

Two observations: why the hell would Apple redesign the iPod Touch just to fatten it up (as seen by these cases)? Ludicrous.
And... maybe the tapered design is so a slightly larger device will still fit into all the dock stations?

Either way I think a tapered design is a huge mistake. Having a phone that's top heavy will almost guarantee it's going to fall out of your hands when they get moist.

Really, what's the point of a tapered design? No upsides what-so-ever. Not like Apple to make design decisions based purely on looks. uh... never mind.

Ahhh... the benefits of the chinese producing everything in this world. One factory makes the iphone 4s and the one next to it, spies to see the design to make a case for it.

dont really like the tapered style for such a small device. iphone4 looks nice
Agreed. iPhone 4 looks awesome. Perhaps this slight taper will help when the device is on a table and is slightly angled toward the user.

then again. doesnt effect me. i think mobile phones are junk, and the majority of people dont actually need one. but they have developed some sort of disease where they think they cant function without one.
You got one thing right... most phones ARE junk. Certainly not the iPhone (which this thread is about. The rest of your opinion is simply asinine.

i wish my marketing skills were as top as the guy/gal who kicked started this obsessive market.
That would be Steve Jobs -- and yes, everyone else in the world wishes they had his marketing skills, too

edit: even worse is the shiny/reflective finish which will likely cross-over from the ipodTouch :|
That graphic is a mock-up. I truly don't believe iPhone 5 will have that mirror finish. Let's hope not. That is the one thing I have always hated about the iPod. You can't have one for five minutes without getting a scratch.

All over the Place???? Ya right

Since wenn are 5 Prototypes all over the place. And what horrible covers so very Apple like. I don't think so. Those colors don't even exist in the covers for a iPhone 4, what makes you think that anyone would buy them for a nonexistent iPhone 5. My guess is that the company "MIC" just had there 15 minutes of fame. Lets get over it and move on.
