I can't believe how few options there are for a desktop dock for the iPhone 5.

I'm tempted by this, but I've never used kickstarter before. What happens if it doesn't get funding? Do I get a refund?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1610299429/complete-dock-the-best-ipad-dock-and-more

It looks great for an iPhone in a case, but if I'm spending that much on a dock, I'd want it to work with my next iPad. It would, but it looks like it would scratch an iPad. If it were plastic, like the Apple docks, I'd buy it without a doubt. Also... it's not shipping until close to Christmas at the soonest, if it gets funding.
With kickstarter, you don't get charged until they reach their funding goal. If they don't reach it, no charge. However, it may take months before they even get it built and sent out. I funded the pebble project and while it is now finally beginning production, it is already 5 months off schedule. It was originally scheduled for production in June, and they are still building prototypes right now. Don't think I will ever do that again, as better products are already coming out from what I funded.

Apple store dock!?!?!

So I've been thinking and looking all over for solution for a dock from wood to lego's...then it finally hit me...apple has a stand for these phones at the store with Lightening connectors right?

Correct me if I am wrong but it's just a Acrylic cube cut out to the lightening connector and it's been working at the stores...right?

Anyone have any idea were we can have something like these made before everyone starts invading apple stores..lol

any thoughts?

attached a pic of what I am talking about...

Elevation Dock Mod

After trying out the Braeburn Acoustics Dock (which I didn't like because of the way it sat straight up), I decided to go ahead and try to mod my Elevation Dock. I followed the instructions here:

http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/10/02/its-alive-elevation-dock-modified-work-apples-iphone-5-lightning-connector/

The only thing I did different was that instead of super-gluing the cable, I simply taped the cord to my nightstand so that I could pull out my phone and the cable would stay put. That way, I can still use the $20 cable when they release the official adapter.

This will do for now... hopefully, they'll ship the official lightning adapter soon.

I do like the anti-gravity dock! Doh, I see you flipped the pic, right after I posted.

But I have a question, let say... if iHome/Belkin/GRiffin is making a iPhone 5 dock, would they make us buy lightning cable? Why can't this one use regular micro cable?
You'd have to ask each manufacturer. It's a design decision that each has to make. Not sure why you think there's a single answer for every manufacturer out there.

Yes, of course they "deserve" to make the money but can't they just put the value into the dock instead of shipping?

Anyway, I am just posting it, no one can make me buy it if I don't like it PERIOD

How about $19 for the Apple cable plus the money for the dock and shipping. People have to make money. I like the way it looks. If you don't, don't buy one.

Thank you for the reply, we will wait and see.

The reason the shipping is so expensive is for people outside the USA mainly. We tend to get hit with duties for products and this way we don't.

He is doing it this way to help everyone outside the USA.

Decent price for a well thought out product. Will be ordering as soon as he gets more stock.

I though of that too but if you look at it carefully, shipping within US is 21.50 and outside US is 24.50.

BUT if you look at the black version, the shipping is down to 2.50 and 5.50.

I really wish Elevation would ramp up their production. No way they should be this far behind. I just want a lightning connector dock. I'm beginning to think my two I ordered back in April are never coming even though they are 30 pin docks. What crack pot company/kickstarter project. Great design though.

You're clearly new to Kickstarter. Comments like this are precisely why Kickstarter is emphasizing that it is not a store.
No, I'm not new to kickstarter. I've funded several others and gotten my product in a timely manner upon the ending of the project. I know how production works and how long it should take. This dock has taken way too long in my opinion and has some of the worst customer service imaginable. They haven't responded to e-mails and if you visit their Facebook page you will see a ton of people are upset about not receiving their docks. Please don't "assume" before posting.

The Braeburn dock I bought arrived this morning. I have nothing but good things to say about it. The big things I like are:
-works just fine with an Otterbox Defender on
-quick adjustment between fitting the case and without
-the amplification is VERY noticeable. My half-deaf ears can hear my phone ring from anywhere in my house now

Very pleased with the dock.

Thanks for that. If I don't get a notification tomorrow that my lightning dock is shipping (that's 7 business days from when they sent out the delay email), I'm going to cancel that order and order a Braeburn dock.

I love how it shows an iPhone 4 on the box. El Oh Frigging El.

Its the same as the Shenit on Amazon.

I got mine today, not bad at all but it does have the circuit board charger but it does feel quite strong.

No you can not remove it with one hand, but overall a good solution until something nicer comes out.

Does it work with a (slim) case?

Can you explain that last point? How do you adjust it? How well does that work? I'm debating this or the DealExtreme.

It's a pity, shipment cost to Europe is expensive. Otherwise will buy one.

It's just a set screw (easy to turn by hand) on the back that holds the lightning plug at the height you want. You just loosen the screw, pull the plug up as high as it'll go, then dock your phone and push down til it's resting on the dock. Tighten the screw, and you're done. It takes maybe ten seconds. It's pretty convenient for someone like me who takes their case off frequently.

Sorry I don't have one but there is a little room

Although this solution isn't quite the same as a dock per se, I've been satisfied with it:

p1143855822-3.jpg

These are Storex Onyx glass business card holders that I got at Staples several years ago and in fact they are still available but only online now. They work just fine for sticking the iPhone in, either with or without the charging cable, and I have them all over the house. When I do want or need to charge the iPhone, it's a quick and simple procedure to stick the Lightning connector in and she's good to go. I had been a dock user since the first iPhone and in the beginning had been really upset when there was no dock for the iPhone 5 but now I'm getting quite comfortable with this alternative solution.

My biggest gripe about the Braeburn dock is that it's just a connector sticking out of a flat surface. It needs a back to prevent someone from accidentally damaging the dock - or their iPhone. You're not storing this thing on the floor. It's on your desk, or maybe a dresser or bedside table, which means you're reaching forward to grab your phone, not reaching down. If it had a back (even the slightest bit of support would do), I'd buy it in an instant.

----------

This looks like exactly what I want. I just wish there was a way to know if it would actually work.
