Annoying that people can't understand that the 4S is the iphone 5. The next iphone is gen 6.

By that logic OS 10.1 should have been called OS 11...
If the 4S was the iPhone 5 it would be "called" the iPhone 5.
Just because it's the 5th gen iPhone doesn't mean it's the iPhone 5.
To call the next one the iPhone 6 and skip 5 makes no sense.
It will either be the iPhone 4G or the iPhone 5.
Personally I think they are tired of the #4 and will move on to 5 because that's what everyone is expecting and to call it anything other than "iPhone 5" would just confuse the average consumer.

And so it begins...

This becoming as predictable as the "take my money now" cartoon.

No mid summer iPhone 5?!!! Stuck with this 3.5 screen. :(

6 things I want in the next iPhone.

- 4"+ "Retina" (yeah I know I know :apple:) Screen
- Shortcuts like these http://www.tech-beats.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Samsung-Galaxy-S2-Notifications-screen.jpeg in Notification Center
- 3rd Party Widgets in Notification Center
- LED notification light in the front. The LED flash option in the back sucks right now. Plain and simple.
- Voice Navigation in Maps, please!
- 4GLTE for Big Red

This shouldn't really be hard to pull off, IMO.

PS

No I don't want to Jailbreak. And no, I don't want an Android phone again, maybe.

Why don't you want to jailbreak? You can already do customizations like you mentioned. I don't get the hesitation.

The only thing that annoys me more than iPhone 5 rumors is calling it the "iPhone 5". That makes no sense

6th iPhone = iPhone 6.

There was no iPhone 2.

Now if only you weren't locked in to 2-year contracts, you would get a lot more frequent upgrades

Will the iPhone (or iPod Touch) ever get FM radio? Yeah yeah I know there are apps like TuneIn and iHeart and some will claim who needs radio when you have pandora, spotify, mog, etc. but with data plans not being unlimited and one not always having access to WiFi (like at work) it would be nice to have the option. My crappy HTC phone had it. I don't understand why iPhone can't.

Phones on contract are relatively rare outside of North America. Which means that about 50% of iPhones on this planet are not on contract.

Note that Americans can buy an unlocked, unsubsidized iPhone 4S at full retail, then legally shove in a no-contract Straight Talk SIM (unlimited talk, unlimited text, and "unlimited data" which is anecdotally about 2GB) for $45 per month.

Apple has deliberately chosen not to include FM radio. The Broadcom chip actually has the necessary circuitry.

I'm just praying I'll be eligible for upgrade after upgrading to the 4S last fall.

You wont be. Why would a carrier subsidize a handset for you and 12 months later do it again? That's the whole point of 2-year contracts, to ensure their subsidization up front is paid for by the end of your contract.

4S owners are suckers and I called it last September. Nobody cares how you feel or what you want. Stop wishing for slow progress from :apple: for the rest of us, just so you don't look like a sucker.

You seriously think apple should be coming out with new phones every 6 months or something? Just b/c 4S had the same form factor as 4 doesn't mean it was the same phone. A year between phones seems about right. No need to follow the model of HTCSamsungMotorla with new phones coming out like every other week.

It makes sense so that Apple's earnings are more even. With the iPad and iPhone about 6 months apart on releases, earnings won't be so volatile.

Likewise, it gives Apple time to work out any bugs in iOS or the processors without impacting both products.

OK I get why Apple said no to flash in mobile devices. But why FM radio? Especially when they had no problem putting it in the Nano?

8 months is considered a very short lifecycle for a tech item? :D On what planet?

i dont know why you are getting neg reviews, its true! ip5 is going to have some impressive specs to not appear as just playing catch up to the galaxy s3 which comes out much sooner

For us iPhone 4 users that started our contracts in late June at release, how do we wait until a fall release for the next iPhone while still maintaining cellular service (without another two year contract of course)?

FM radio would be nice but I'd prefer it if they jumped straight to DAB (digital) radio. Not sure if they have it in the US.

uh .. . . . month to month. ;)

i bought the iphone 4S and im skipping iphone 5 and im buying iphone 5S next.. cause i think battery will suck on iphone 5

and the iphone 5S will fix all those issues :)

Way to justify you not being able to upgrade by the fall. Hope it makes you feel better. Me on the other hand will be up at 3am the morning preorders begin.

Hold on, beloved 3GS...

I know, I know!! I'm still holding on to my 3G with missing volume rocker.... just a few more months my dear.

4G speeds (without 4G battery drain)
'3G' speeds is generally advertised in the 15-25mbps range in most developed areas.

4g is normally advertised in the 40-80mbps range.

e.g:

I know American telecoms have in a bid of desperation tried to mask their inability to establish even full 3G speeds with their 4G networks by resorting to tactics such as randomly renaming some types of 3G connections as 4G.

This makes the most sense, especially with the waning iPod lineup and relevance. Takeover that event with new iPhones and have (even more) amazing Christmas quarters every year.

A November/December timeframe would make more sense. Apple captured almost 19% of holiday spending dollars because iPhones and iPads make great gifts, it seems likely they would want to do that again.

They'll do that again no matter when they release it.

New iPad's in the Spring
New Mac's and new Mac OS in the Summer (great for new students buying new computers before fall classes)
New iPhones and new iOS in the Fall. (great for christmas holidays)

Simple and makes sense. They got their formula all worked out and I see no reason to mess with it in the near future.

Makes sense.

We'll get a confirmation with the iOS event. If it's in April, then it's a good that iPhone will be out in summer. If the event is in June/July, then the iPhone will most likely come out in September-October.

Hoping the upgrades are bigger this time around for the iPhone. The iPad 3 seems close enough to launch that the rumors which have keep coming from multiple sources are reasonable, but also a big enough improvement that Apple would be really upping the bar(talking about the screen resolution here)

If these upgrades pan out, the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 are both going to bring their A game. This happened in 2009 as well, the iPhone 3GS was released and while it was a decent upgrade, the lack of any external changes allowed other devices running Android(and Android itself) to close the gap between iOS and iPhone hardware. but the iPhone 4 came out and changed that, and now Android device IMO have caught up(and surpassed the iPhone is some areas, certainly hardware wise)

I like my HTC Vivid, but the plastic body makes it feel much cheaper then my iPhone 4, but I like my large screen and LTE support. I'm not expecting Apple to put out a 4.5" inch screen on the iPhone, but a 3.7" or 3.9" could be added without increase the devices footprint and the PPI would still be near industry leading if they kept the current resolution.
