FM radio would be nice but I'd prefer it if they jumped straight to DAB (digital) radio. Not sure if they have it in the US.
US has HD radio. Not sure if that's the same. I'd love to know what the objection to FM radio is. Was that a Steve quirk or is there some legitimate reason iOS devices don't have it?

Man, there's gonna be like 489,000,410,847 plastic androids released by then. As a matter of fact, I just got one in the bottom of my Kellogs Frosted Flakes box.

Now lets watch the fandroids play with their little Stylus's and try and make the claim that it's some "revolutionary" new technology that only the android "openness" could have created.

i bought the iphone 4S and im skipping iphone 5 and im buying iphone 5S next.. cause i think battery will suck on iphone 5

and the iphone 5S will fix all those issues :)

Yeah i'm not an early adopter either

In fact I skipped the original iphone, 3g, 3gs, 4, 4S and i'm going to skip the 5 as well. I reckon the 5S will be the one for me. :D

WHY, oh why are we still calling this the iPhone 5, when it's going to be the 6th generation iPhone. Think about it, the only reason the iPhone 4 is called what it's called is because it was actually the 4th generation! This is in fact, the iPhone 6!!

I am not sure I can wait that long. My iPhone 3GS is getting slow and crappy, not sure what I can do and I need a new phone.

How do u explain the iphone 4S naming then?

After 5 years... Apple's naming scheme has been all over the place:

iPhone.......... plain 'n simple
iPhone 3G...... network
iPhone 3GS.... network + speed
iPhone 4........ generation
iPhone 4S...... generation + Siri, Steve, Speed, Samsonite :)

Who knows where they will go next...

Hold on, beloved 3GS...

Ha! Me too.

She's just about holding on but her battery is depleting fast...

Thank you voice of reason...

Apple names their phone whatever they think will be 'catchy' and sell more phones...it has no relation to the generation number. This should have been APPEARENT by '3G'. This is FACT.

Dammit! I want an iPhone 5 in the summer!

....must find silver lining...
Ooo! I'm moving in May so I guess I can use that time to figure out if AT&T has service where I move and work before I sign another contract...

Nope. :(
I still want it sooner.

Actually, it does have slightly outdated specs. 512 RAM and an underclocked A5 chip at 800 MHz when most high end androids are at 1-1.5 GHz and 1GB RAM. Your benchmark is about performance, not purely specs. Although the 4S does have the best GPU as far as I know. So your rebuttal should be that despite the fact that it has slightly outdated specs, it can perform better than phones with top specs because specs aren't everything.
First of all, you cannot compare different architectures based on clock speed. Second, you assume that all things are equal on the software side of things between iOS and Android which they are not.

The proof is in the pudding or rather the benchmarks in this case. How much memory a system has could be more of a reflection of how inefficient the OS is than anything else.

Show me an android system that does not have UI lag compared to iOS devices and then we can talk turkey. Until that happens, all the clock speed in the world does not add up to a hill of beans.

iPhone 5 Due for Release in September-October Timeframe?

Oh yeah! It'll have new design, slightly bigger and better screen, improved battery, new cpu+gpu, faster mem, LTE etc :D bring it on!

Not smart move by Apple (if true). Too many iPhone 4 owners would be well past their upgrade time (including me). Need something to release in June.

I would've agreed w/ this too, b/c everyone who is complaining about having a 4s is still likely going to be in a contract whenever the next phone comes out. But given how well the 4s did in the last quarter, I can see why Apple would move their iPhone release out to September/October, in the end I guess I wouldn't have a problem with it either.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see Apple go w/ just iPhone or iPhone LTE from now on, at some point it stops mattering...

And as far as battery life on an LTE iPhone, you can tell yourself that you'll pass on their first attempt at an LTE phone, but if Apple was going to release a product just to claim they have LTE, they would've done it last fall... you can expect that battery life is at the very least equal to what is in the 4s.

release in June with the following prices.

iPhone 3GS (only 8 gig)
Stays $0 on Contract
Reduced to $250 unlocked

iPhone 4 (only 8 gig)
Reduced to $50 on Contract
Reduced to $375 unlocked

iPhone 4S (only 8 gig)
Reduced to $100 on COntract
Reduced to $499 on unlocked
_______________________________
iPhone 5 (16 gig)
$200 on Contract/$650 unlcoked
iPhone 5 (32 gig)
$300 on Contract/$750 unlcoked

Fin.

September/October would be perfect for me, lines up just right with my august upgrade, I love my 16gig iPhone 4 but am defiantly ready for a 64gig iPhone 5 (or whatever they decide to call it) :D

Wouldn't be surprised. Apple's not the type of company to crank a product update out within a year of one another. Have they ever done that?

I did not know about the first point. Care to elaborate? And I completely agree with your second and third points. But would you disagree that high end android phones have better specs than the 4S? By specs I'm solely referring to hardware (since I think that's what the original poster was referring to as well). This is by no means my opinion on which phone is better or the performance of either phone, etc. But is it not fact that the best android phones have better specs/hardware? If specs on androids and iPhones cannot be directly compared like that (solely for the reason of comparing, not for figuring out which phone is better) then I'd like to hear why as well.

Hope it's sold online and unlocked

I think Apple showed initiative when they started selling the phone unlocked in their store. Carriers have been really surprised ... and I really know that.

For them, iOS is not really a platform to support because they cannot "enhance" the firmware with their branded services.

Google also moves in that direction.

So I really do hope that Apple continues with that approach.
Think about it. You can give Apple $750 or you support the carriers...

I will happily give money to Apple instead, because here in Europe carriers try to rip you of as hard as they possibly can.

If I ever see an online offer for an unlocked and contract free Galaxy Nexus, I'd probably buy that too...

Dude, iPhone 6, not iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S was the 5th one.
They are on the 6th one.

1. iPhone
2. iPhone 3G
3. iPhone 3GS
4. iPhone 4
5. iPhone 4S
.... iPhone 6

The only thing I can think of is that maybe Apple thought that if they put an FM Radio in you would be less likely to buy content from iTunes. The iPod Nano has an FM Radio but you can't buy content directly from iTunes on the Nano. Maybe I'm being too cynical but everything does seem to revolve around money for Apple these days.

Or a Droid with foldout speakers and a keyboard. There is actually a Windows Phone with that, just in case you want to play loud music on your phone.
