The antena issues is real but apple seems to want this design regardless of the known issues. I call that stubbornness. No problem for me. I love my iPhone 4!!!

Whatever it is, im gonna buy it. 3 more months on AT&T, then hello Verizon! I can see the light. Att was the worst thing about the iPhone

IMO, things are gonna get very good on ATT. Wrong time to switch.

If the next iPhone doesn't have 4G cellular service, which it most likely won't, then there's no way they're going to call it the iphone 4G. That would just confuse consumers.

Most likely expect the next one to be called the iPhone 5 and the one after that to be called, can ya guess? iPhone 6.

Apple most likely called the 3GS what they did so that they could get back on the numerical cycle instead of calling it the 4 and having their 4th generation product (iPhone 4) be called the 5.

Suppose the iPhone 4 was instead called the iPhone 5, it wouldn't make a difference to us at all. In my opinion, marketing a clean number sends the message out more effectively to consumers than adding a G or S would. An iPhone 5 is better than iPhone 4SGT64GB.

4 inch is too small. We need atleast the .3 inch more to compete with HTC and others.

What comes to iPhone 4 screensize, it is straight from 2007... :( Would be wonderful if Apple could introduce iPhone "nano" and iPhone "pro".

yeah, because us girls with small hands don't deserve 'pro' features.

I want a 4.75 inch screen.

But I'll settle for 4.5

4 inch ....Whats the point? Not much difference.

I don't care if they change it at all. Bigger would be nicer, but it has to fit in the current frame whatever they do. The current size is perfect.

That is one thing I hate about some of the other smart phones by Moto and HTC.... big screen = big phone. No thank you. It's a smart phone.... not a mini tablet. Portability and comfort in the hand is important.

Have you ever put an iPhone and the evo side by side? Overall dimensions are pretty close to identical

The chassis itself is 4.7 inch and needs room for camera, speakers, microphone, receiver and home button. There's no way you can fit a 4 inch screen into it keeping the same form factor. It also doesn't make sense when you think about the resolution problem developers will have to face. What would it be then - from @2x to another @1.3x ?

Steve said iPhone 4 was the biggest leap since the original iPhone, and I think they're going to do something similar to what they did with iPhone 3G: a 'minor' upgrade with a better camera, NFC and A5 if not even more RAM, but definitely not bigger displays.

I expect the design to be the same, but they'll shift around the 3G / UMTS antenna to the top of the device where your hand is not interfering with anything when you're holding it.

Where is the evidence of a 4 inch screen???... if they get 4 inch screen but keep the same form factor and dimensions... that would be incredible

My guess based on all these rumours:

iPhone 4s (speed): Same design with 4" screen, same processor as iPad 2, 32/64Gb, focus on performance improvements

iPhone Nano/3Gs: 8/16Gb, free on contract, much cheaper on pre-paid/PAYG

4" won't fit if they keep the same aspect ratio.

Q3 2011? But that will mean the iPhone 4 has been out for more than 1 year!
I think a regular yearly cycle is a good thing, keeps competition at bay.

Also, verizon iPhone will probably be updated at same time - it's silly to have a GSM version out for 6 months then release the CDMA. I'm sure apple will want to consolidate the lines ASAP

Yeah... it is close. And I can't remember the specific models (too many to keep up with), but I know picking them up at the Verizon or T-Mobile stores they felt bigger too. I'm all for a larger screen... just whatever they can put in the current body is my point. Please don't make it bigger otherwise, the iPhone will start to be too big and difficult to just carry and use.

People have to keep in mind what these darn things are for. They are the computer that should easily fit in your pocket and not your home entertainment system or mini version of your laptop. It's for on-the-go info, communication and tools. I can't imagine watching a full length movie on an iPhone or any smart phone. You can hardly see what's going on. That's what the laptop or a tablet is for.

But I think Apple is a master at remembering what a device is for and how it's used by the majority of customers. This is why they keep nailing it when it comes to overall features and functionality. They don't play the bigger is better game and focus more on making what's there better. Faster, better screen, more functionality. Easy to use design. This is what counts.

LTE iPhone?

Perhaps we could be suprised with the next iPhone being GSM/LTE/CDMA since LTE requires a SIM card just like GSM? Posting this in the hopes of responses from people that may have knowledge if this is technologically possible or not.

i'd be surprised if they call this a 4S or something similar unless they go with 4G and call it 4G, and even then i'd be surprised. the reason the 3G was followed by the 3GS is because it made no sense to call it the iphone 3 when the iphone 2 was called 3G. the more numbers/letters in a name the better people assume it is (i'm not saying it is true, but that is the perspective your average buyer has), so simply naming the 3GS "iphone 3" would have caused consumer confusion, people would assume that 3G is better than 3. now that they have the naming convention back on track i think they will stick with it. iphone 5 this year.

It will probably happen in the form of an adapter that plugs into the 30pin connector. I have read other places that this is acceptable under EU standards.
Not to mention, it would be difficult to move away from the ecosystem that has already been created around the 30 pin connector. I don't think (correct me if I am wrong) that the micro USB can provide the same functionality as the 30 pin connector.

Yes all indications are that an adapter will be used to satisfy the nanny states.
Change the whole design and philosophy for a small(in worldwide terms)market segment,of which an even smaller number of customers would use?No.

For those wanting 4": why you want it to be bigger?
The retina resolution is the best, and when making it bigger they will sacrifice something: battery life more likely, or keeping the same resolution? Some may call for resolution independence...
Anyways faster processor and more RAM will make it a better experience. They can use an iPad 2 type of enclosure: rounded edge for more ergonomically holding it, and the antenna will be a tricky one tonpack there nicely.
Faster camera when shooting HDR Picts.
Better improved camera lens ( I do prefer this 1 million times than a 4" screen.
64Gb.
Keyboard customization: so we the users can be able to define how the keys and special keys are layout.
The Near Field Communications seems to be another key hardware feature that :apple: will put in it with an improved MobileMe service for us to have full mobility of our Mac experience/data/media.

Rethinking about the iPad 2 type of enclosure they might be able to use the :apple: logo for the antenna, as well as the back camera ring as another antenna. As those are currently located they will not be touched by the user while a call. The tricky one will be when you use it on speaker mode and lay it on a table that may have interference.

iPad/iPhone

Assuming the iPad follows the lead of the iPhone:

iPad 3 will have retina.

iPad 4 will have slightly larger screen.

I hope it's the first minute of the 3rd quarter. My 3G is getting slower by the day. Literally.

1. no 4G/LTE ... no care.
2. Italy better retain the right to sell unlocked without contract.

If so, then I'll take buy one outright and take the iPhone plunge ... otherwise, I'll wait until the EU lowers data roaming and forces all countries to offer unlocked phones without contract (both issues are under EU investigation as anti-competitive business practices).

Not convinced.

Long shot of the CDMA and GSM chassis, close up of two GSM chassis's show the sim slot.

If it was genuine they would have had a long shot showing both sim slot and moved seams. ;)
