Is it perfect out of the box though? I'll be putting a case on mine if I ever open the box! (can't decide if I should open it or return it for a white model)

Well, I've had the back plastic protector on for now, but I just peeled it off and it looks fine. In a certain light, I can see an a TINY black 'dot' - but if it was a scuff I'm guessing it'd be silver aluminium, so it's probably me being a bit fussy :D

EDIT: Actually, the black dot wiped away when I used my nail. No scuffs then :D

first impressions of iPhone 5: why do the volume buttons rattle when I tap the phone? It just feels cheap, I presume it is just poorly made in my case - if they all do it I would be embarrassed for Apple.

Hmm I don't have that issue so yeah, probably just the one you were sent

Regarding the first post of this thread

Hi all,

So, my new iPhone has been delivered and everything is set up! I'm one of those lucky Aussies who live in the future :p

Anyway, I'm pretty impressed with this pocket beast! It is certainly a lot quicker than my iPhone 4.

The screen size is noticeably taller. The change in aspect ratio feels good. The lack of increase in width seems awkward in photos, but when you hold it you understand how much more comfortable it feels when compared to a wider phone. The dock is so tiny now! I almost missed it when checking out the bottom of the device. The speaker grills also look great in the finished modal. They do not appear as large as photos portray them to be.

Feel free to shoot me any questions or leave feedback of your own when your new toy arrives!

Thanks for sharing you first impressions. Can you (and/or others) also please tell us about how the screen extended width in landscape mode is compared to the 3,5 inches model? And, to thread starter, or others: Why not are you not a fan of the landscape keyboard set up?

I am typing this reply in landscape now and I do find that my accuracy is a bit better than portrait mode due to the slightly larger keys. However, the keyboard and associated buttons take up over half of the screen. It is just not what I personally prefer. I'm sure plenty of people will enjoy it and praise the increased keyboard size. Overall, my phone stays in locked portrait mode unless I'm watching a video or want a better view of a landscape photo

Dam you Australians, You are always first in getting the iPhones and what not :D

It was fun back in the days when Apple released the iPhone first in the US. Of course, you people in California probably still complained about all of us out east. :D

all these idiots that keep asking to scratch the sides and scratch the back to see if it marks make me laugh.

Yeah like someone is going to do that to a brand new £500 phone just to please your curiosity. Morons!

For the record my iPhone 5 arrived this morning, and I'm glad I only bought it to sell on, which I have done, as I'm not overly impressed with it.

I'm an Apple fanboy, but this device has not impressed me at all. I've had a look at it out of the box and it's just a stretched iPhone 4. Same design now for 3 years. Looking a bit a stale, and stretching it doesn't make it fresh in my opinion.

I'm sure the insides are better and faster etc, but worth buying it for personal use?...... not for me.

These are my opinions, and mine alone.

Had mine for over an hour now. Coming from a Galaxy S3 to this is heaven. Bye bye Android, I have given you three chances now and three times you blew it.

No scuffed edges put of the box but I am still cautious.

On the first sight I was deeply amazed how large this screen is. After I played around with it for couple of hours I got used to those dimensions and after I picked an iPhone 4 i realised that the iP5 is not as large as I thought, it is just as should be, but now the iPhone 4 seems to be cut off. And another thing: camera is brilliant. Panorama feature does well, and a front facing camera is better than expected.

The only thing I am worried about is if it get visual damage on backside after some time. Therefore I'm waiting for an invisible case.

Thanks OP, great pics, nice follow up!

One thing I would've liked to have seen with the letter boxing: user selectable color, i.e., black _or_ white. I think the white would be neat to blend the unused space into the case[?]

I dont understand all the people who say it looks like an iPhone 4/4s... Its a completely different design! What is the same about it? The volume buttons? The shape? I personally like a rectangular phone, not sure what else there is unless people are looking for like a hexagonal phone or something.

Anyone know what Apple's return policy on unopened iPhones is? I've got my black iPhone 5 on its way to me right now (should be delivered today), but all the reports of the anodized aluminum on the black model scratching really easily have me wary... and after seeing the pics of the white model in this thread, I'm thinking I might want to switch anyway. Is that even possible? Would it just depend on me finding a store that even has iPhone 5s in stock (pretty much a zero chance, I'm guessing)?

I love the Calendar and Address Book games. Replayability is excellent.

Lmao was waiting for someone to point those out. They didn't fit in my "Important" folder so I put them there and they've been there for the past 6 months so I'm fine so far. And you're right, the replayability is excellent. I always have new events to add and new contacts to add. So fun!

Just so you know. We are living vicariously through you. Lol
Thanks for giving us the low down on the elusive iPhone(at least for the late bloomers on the west coast)
