Like I said, "context" as was explained in my previous post.

They pale in comparison due to the fact that most developers target a two year old operating system, when iOS developers can generally target the latest version.

You keep saying they pale in comparison. But how? Can you give an example. I'm not being a smarta$$. If you're making this statement - you must have something in mind. If not - you're just spitting into the wind.

Yelp.

It is MUCH more polished in iOS and looks clunky in Android.

Ok - now - is that because of the App itself. Or because of the version of Android.

I'm going to go with - it's because of the App itself. And I'm also going to go with - it's subjective. I have them both on my Android phone and iPhone 4.

I don't find the Android one clunky.

You realize you made a VERY bold statement. And if your only "evidence" is one app - and a subjective statement - then you don't have much.

Your credibility (in regards to this argument) for me is shot.

You got it right. When an app is said to be "clunky" it's the developer's problem not Android. I remember when I played Madden 12 on my iPad it had some problems, but ran fine on my S2. Do I blame iOS because of this, of course not.

You will probably find that most of these people on here are long time Apple users annoyed at the lack of change from Apple.

YES

It's not so much about change for change sake. One is bewildered however why some change is not adopted.

Does anyone remember the "Reopen windows when logging back in" checkbox in Lion when shutting down? You had to ask yourself WHY apple decided to make that not remember your last setting. It was so annoying. Nobody liked it. We had to wait post Steve Jobs for that to change. One has to shake their head and ask WHY???

Some things from apple defy logic. Same goes with their phones and iOS.

For now I'm sticking with iPhone - albeit 4S. But I do see the point of view of people as starting to get tired. So far everybody I know that jumped ship to an S3 is quite happy all this time down the track. Their only gripe is the poorer battery life.

But poorer battery life came free with iOS6. Lucky us.

.

A lot of people drink the kool-aid on both sides. Personally I waited for the iPhone 5 to come out and then decided to buy the Galaxy SIII. This after having owned every iPhone, and purchased on the day it was released. About 5 months ago I jailbroke my 4s to get some Android functionality I felt I needed on my phone. Since iOS 6 has not yet been jailbroken my option was either go back to stock, or switch to Android.

I decided to switch. Actually the SIII is too big, but the iPhone 5 is too small IMHO. For me the ideal size is 4.3" screen, but that is just me. However, the main reason was for the flexibility that Android has.

Android is far from perfect as people have said. The apps tend not to be as polished as iPhone apps. Go on Android forums and you will see they agree. However there is greater flexibility in those apps. There is also the fact that apps work on some devices and not others. However, iOS is falling behind. It needs to allow for greater flexibility. The sad part is that if Apple just left an easy opening for Jailbreak so that the same jailbreak could be used by every version, then everyone would be happy. The advanced users could get their flexibility while the base users stay in their protected garden.

Who told you that?
It's in the article...

With Samsung still declining to release official sales number, IDC estimated the company's smartphone shipments at 56.3 million during the quarter, doubling year-over-year and pushing Samsung's leading share of the worldwide market to 31.3%.

Despite Android devices having the greater marketshare, iOS has more of the browsing marketshare.

Does this mean iOS devices are used more and are more useful?

Or, does it mean that browsing on an Android device isn't as good as iOS?

There's a very simple reason. Lots of customers go to a store to buy a phone to make phone calls. Nothing else. There are choices: A cheap old-fashioned Nokia phone with actual keys. Or a new phone with a touch screen. It runs Android, but that user doesn't actually care. He doesn't know, just like he never knew or cared what was running on the Nokia phone. He compares prices. The Nokia phone is cheaper, but the phone with the touch screen looks nicer for $100. Now we have a phone that increases the Android statistics, but never does any browsing, only makes phone calls.

Of course, if you tried to sell an iPhone (or a Samsung S3) to that customer, he would pass out when he hears the price.

I'm pretty sure only dedicated Android fans do this.

Why wouldn't you just select using the full site from the bottom of the page on sites that you want to use the full site?

Seems easier than changing your user agent all the time given that this setting is often reset and sometimes doesn't even work on some websites.

Many sites don't offer that option and force the mobile setting. Many Android browsers (Dolphin) allow you to change the setting permanently. Personally, I use the desktop useragent all the time.

Totally agree, especially when you see a samsung phone fall and the battery and plastic cover go flying off...

I had a mid range Android Samsung Plastic phone, with a plastic touch screen.

Id much perfer its battery flying out...which it does when dropped.

To an iPhones,glass shattering.

Lol, look at his comments. He keeps pointing out that the only way for Android to get timely updates is if you root it. Then he's saying that in order for an iPhone to do what Android can do is to jailbreak. Hyprocisy at its finest.

Try some rational thinking. Joe Blow can't get the latest/greatest Android on his phone without jumping through hoops. Joe Blow can update his iPhone to the latest OS on release day - no hoops required.

Now say Joe Blow wants to go beyond what most smartphone users need, plus maintain access to the best app catalog on the market. All he has to do is jailbreak his phone. Just like Android users do when they want to break beyond whatever their carrier/device maker gives them with Android.

Most iOS users never have a need to jailbreak. And most Android users will never get the latest OS upgrade for their devices.

That's not hypocrisy. That's common sense. Try some.

Is that Apple lodged so far up your ass you can taste it in the back of your mouth?

Google has made a note of this juvenile comment in your digital dossier. They approve.

Looks like you'll have to do a little more than just a normal height drop to crack the iphone5 screen :)

What do we call Samsung owners now? sSheep? Sheepsung? Samherd? sCult?

Lots of people just buy Samsung since it's trendy. It's all marketing.

:p

all I can say is 'ESTIMATED' samsung shipments...

Samsung sell their phones at cost, they don't make better products just loads more choice and cheaper, for some that is good but i can't see any reason to support any company like that. Samsung are probably haemorrhaging their profit margins in the long haul and could be in a very bad future if they start to make poor design choices. You only have to look at RIM to see how quickly tables turn. Apple has not made any mistakes with about 1/100th the product line. I would still put my stock in apple to perform over the next 10 years, you would probably get back more dividends and still be able to sell.

After all it's not really fair to pit apple a focused tech only company with samsung who make everything from fridge to washing machines to phones. This is a company that doesn't care about it's products, being so large prevents it.

For those saying it's ios that holds iphone back you are so wrong, samsung doesn't make the OS anyway it's called android and google make that bit. Samsung ruin it with their touchjizz wank on top.

I don't get how anyone can say that a samsung is more intuitive and easy to use than any ios device.

Isn't Apple who gives iPhones for prices as cheap as $199 in a contract? Of course, an unlocked Galaxy Ace costs only a fraction of an unlocked iPhone, so it can be practically given for free in a contract.

the rest of the world

When a product is popular it's not because it's good. It's because customers are sheep. This is what I've learned ever since I've been buying Apple products. Looks like the new sheep are Samsung customers.

If you have a smartphone or tablet, you're a sheep no matter what system you use. You're stuck into your ecosystem and its artificial (software controlled) obsolescence.

They're not doing too shabby. $6B in net income on 18.8% profit margins.

Samsung's rise is pretty impressive even if your not a Samsung fan
Very true.

Here's an interesting quote regarding the _increase_ in Galaxy S III sales _after iPhone 5_ was launched.

"The spike after the iPhone 5 launch suggests that consumers hung around to see what Apple had to show off, weren't impressed, and went with a Galaxy S III instead"

Looks like a lot of us didn't like the small narrow, oblong display of the iP5...
