yep, looks like i will have to take it to a pro.

From what I have seen on the Internet, doing the repair yourself isn't too terribly difficult. Since your iPhone is out of warranty, and if you're kind of good at doing this type stuff, then it might be worth a shot for you to do it yourself.

that's the problem, i'm not good at this stuff.:(

Check around locally to see if there's any local pc or cell phone repair shops that will do it. Be sure to check around and read reviews though.

Did they have to give you a entire new phone or do they fix the piece in the phone. I am wondering because I am going to get mine fixed today.

Getting frustrated

I am really beginning to second guess Apple's quality control these days. I picked up a replacement (refurb) from Apple the other day. I became suspicious when the new one took a while to detect my SIM. It had the message: Unable to detect SIM.

After a while, it worked. However, just today I lost audio from all sources after a call. I couldn't get audio from BT, headphones, from VOIP, the ear piece speaker, or external speaker.

I went to Apple and had it replaced.

In my car, I had trouble with the power button again with the just replaced unit. Right now, it's working but I believe by the end of the week it will happen again, causing me to make yet another visit back to Apple. The girl at Apple (the first time) says this issue hasn't been fixed. But likely will be when the 5S makes it's debut.

If she said that then she doesn't know what she's talking about. On minor occasions have been problems with the home button starting from the 3G. At least that's been my own experience. If you're having issues just get it replaced again.

Mine just started doing it 2 days ago it doesn't always do it but when it does its the right side of the lock button. This is so annoying I already liked my 4S better and now this problem.

Apple replace the iPhone for free so go get it fixed.

Though Apple really do need to sort out the lock button issues. They've plagued every iPhone.

Apparently (I haven't verified yet) but by calling Apple customer care, you can get the basic (old) Apple Care where your warranty is doubled. I am going to make the call. At this rate, I will be going back to Apple for a replacement regularly before I can get my new iPhone 6 or 6S (or maybe HTC). I am not eligible for a hardware upgrade for three years (as of last October) in Canada. Otherwise, it's $229 for a refurb.

I made the mistake not calling in about the home button on my iPhone 4 once. Back then I didn't realize about the warranty.

This problem has been happening with my iPhone 5 for some time. I have an appointment booked at the Bath Apple Store today so hopefully I will get a replacement. Initially the button would work after 2 or 3 presses on the left side but now a lot of the time it won't work at all. Occasionally, however, it starts to work perfectly...I only hope that doesn't happen during my appointment!! Interesting to see that this is quite a common problem - I asked an authorised Apple dealer a couple of days ago and he says he'd never heard of it!

Just stared having this issue with my November 2012 iPhone 5.

It sounds like a really straight-forward replacement process if you have access to an Apple Store. Only problem is I live in Dublin which, remarkably, does still not have an Apple store (that I'm aware of, anyway.)

Does anyone know what to do in this instance? Are the licensed apple retailers in the city authorised to honour replacements of this nature?

I really don't want to have to send my iPhone off for repairs to Apple, an instore visit and replacement would be so much easier. I would consider getting a cheap flight to the UK honestly, or just driving up to Belfast. Would a UK store honour my warranty since I bought online from Apple store Ireland.

Sorry lots of questions in this post, any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey , My iPhone 5 power button has been acting up too . I was wondering if Apple would fix my phone if I didn't have apple care? Can someone please tell me !! B

Took mine to apple store. Gave me a new phone no questions asked. (Roughly 2 months ago)

revert jailbreak before taking to store?

guys, bought a brand new factory unlocked iphone5 from the local apple store.

purchased 20 days ago, but opened for first time last night and did a jailbreak (it had 6.1.2 on it thankfully out of the box).

woke this morning and noticed sleep/power button is stuck.. no clicks at all.

do i need to re-store (in my case upgrade) to latest IOS and remove jailbreak before taking it to genius bar?

or will they give me new phone even if its jailbroken..

do they reject jailbroken (yet still under warranty) phones?

Is anybody else having problems with the iPhone 5 power button?

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 5. I get frustrated because I have to keep pressing the power button several times to get it to work. When I first got it, there was nothing wrong with it.

Well I think you should actually take to the store as it is an internal problem and you can get it exchanged or get fixed.. Well its better to get is fixed as soon as you can.

Recently I've been having a problem with my iPhone 5 power button.

It has become unresponsive when I press it. Sometimes it takes two to three presses on the button before the screen turns on/off

The strange thing that I noticed was that if I press to the right of the power button it always fails but works if I press on the left side.
Not sure if I'm making myself clear.

Is anybody else having problems with the iPhone 5 power button?

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 5. I understand what you say about the left right side, I've tries it, but I don't think mine is sensitive to that.

Iphone power button

I understand going to the Apple store will get you a new phone for the power button issue, but is that a refurbished (white box) phone or is it a brand new phone.
Also how good are their refurbished phones any how?

new battery, new outer shell, tested and certified.

You wont be able to tell a difference.

Power button issue here. Other than having to drive an hour to the Apple store the replacement process was great. Never in my life of owning a phone has a warranty replacement been so easy.

I'm having this problem too. But i'm on vacation and apple says they can't replace it here (brazil) only in the country that the iPhone was bought. I can't return there now and this was supposed to be a gift for my mom, does anyone knows a fix for it?

Best Regards
