It seems that Apple coded the site so the Buy Now button activates upon your computer's local 10:00PM time. I tested this by simply changing my Time Zone and refreshing the page. However, like stated before, the system will probably not allow you to select the Pick up option until 10:00PM PST.

Wasn't it setup the same last year?

I changed the time zone in my preferences as well and had the same turnout. I think this confirms that its 10pm pacific, 1am eastern.

ugh apparently in the only 2 apple stores in Kansas City, neither of them have stock..both say "unavailable for pickup"....

2 reasons why i hope this is wrong...
1) on my computer, the pick up in store option is still greyed out....
2) multiple people have said that it opens up at 10pm pst...i have no prob waiting the time, but if it says unavailable for pickup how likely is it going to change by 10pst? i have been calling both apple stores and they have had no phones in stock all day! seems weird when apple is supposedly sending "regular" shipments to them

Darn!!!! No way to pay full price for a non contact phone. I qualify for subsidized pricing for all the carriers with a contract but seems like a lot of trouble to have to cancel the contract and pay ETF. I like to use my phones wherever I want. Probably wouldn't look too good if I ever needed the service after cancelling after the first month. Last year you could reserve a device only 4s online with no contract.

I have visited Apple store 5 times in last 4 days without any success? Is there any way I can check availability of the phone in a specific store through apple website like you guys are doing through Apple Store app? I don't have IPhone or IPad to run that app...
