Decided to switch things up a little bit and reserve that white 32gb at the Fifth Avenue store.. I'm sure I'll be pleased no matter the color.

The apple store is so infuriating sometimes. I must have unluckily got the worst employees at the apple store.

So I reserved my iPhone 5 for AT&T yesterday. I go to the apple store at night after work. Arrived ~7:30 PM.

After a 45 minute wait, someone comes to help me. They bring out the iPhone, brand new and inside the box.

After some "gimme your ID and credit card" BS, it turns out some number was typed in wrong. Not be me, by them or AT&T. I'm not even sure. Their answer was to call AT&T.

What happened next makes 0 sense. The "specialist" says that the solution is to call At&t to sort this out. Then he goes "hold on, lemme go find a phone to call At&t".

Every employee is carrying an iPhone yet he spends about 10 minutes going to retrieve a phone to call At&t

After another 10 minutes he gets through to At&t, saying the easiest solution is to just cancel the entire order and start fresh. Apple specialist agrees. Calls someone over to cancel and reorder.

The new guy now cancels the order, then tries to reorder the iPhone, that is literally in his hands. Uses his iPhone to scan the barcode. NOPE. some error pops up. "this iphone is reserved for [jaypow]". What?!

Now its about 8:50PM, and he says that they are closing at 9, so they ask me to come back at another time. However the kicker is he says "unfortunately, the reservations for iPhone's only last a day, and since you didn't pick yours up, its going to go back into the iPhone stock".

I sitting there in disbelief, and so I ask:"where is this stock you are talking about? can i just buy another iphone from there?" . Nope, they sold out.

I can literally see the iPhone box in his hand, WITH my name on it, and he says they are sold out.

9:00 PM comes, manager comes out and says sorry, stores closing come back again.

So now I have to re-reserve it at 10:00 and wasted 2 hours of my life because these incompetent employees don't know how to sell an iPhone.

Wow that sounds frustrating.

You want a subsidized phone?
AT&T wont let you get it.

AT&T is where the screw up in the data base is coming from not Apple.

The store closing didn't help either but canceling the order means starting from scratch.

Happened to me with the 3G. Had a premier account that AT&T couldn't or wouldn't adjust.
The Apple genius walked me over to an AT&T store in the same Mall and AT&T couldn't straighten it out.
Took one week until the stars aligned and new stock rolled in before I could get my phone.

For those that have had units show as available some time after 10pm, can you tell me if we can just keeping hitting refresh to see if anything becomes available or do need to basically start over to keep checking? Thanks!

Refresh worked for me

Refresh worked for me

I just kept hitting "locate" or whatever the find button is next to the zipcode you type in.
You can faintly see the green "check out" button off to the right blink a little each time.
And for me the store front photo would flicker each time I hit "locate".
And then eventually "unavailable for pickup" became green "in stock".

Well I was someone who did not get the iPhone5 on launch day and regretted it ever since as getting one has been like finding gold. I tried everything. I tried for multiple nights to get one from Apple's website but it was EPIC FAIL each time. Today out of the blue I decided to call a couple Wal-Mart's to see if they had some. Apparently Wal-Mart gets quite a few of the Verizon/AT&T ones but in 16GB only. They do go fast. As a previous iPhone4S owner who had a 32GB I was a little hesitant but realized after taking a look at what was actually on my iPhone4S that I could live without ALOT of it. So I walked into a Wal-Mart (which is something I cringed because I HATE Wal-Mart's) and picked up a 16GB iPhone5 for Verizon. They had one in black and white. Just thought I'd share this if anyone else was still looking incessantly and frankly tired of waiting like me. In the end all I gotta say it HOT DAM I LOVE this iPhone5. SO light and it's hard to even look at the 4S after using it. Best of luck.
