Has anybody been able to find any 16 GB white at any stores in Northern Virginia? I have been checking every night and nobody has any, its odd. They have many of the others but not this specific model :mad:
 
Last night seemed to be much more successful for a lot of people, including me! :cool:

Refreshed my locate button starting at 9:45pm local (PST) and the three stores in Portland popped up right at 9:58pm. Grabbed my 16GB White AT&T and raced against the clock to complete my order (the night before, I had one in my cart but it was gone before I could check out).

Got my confirmation email a couple minutes later and my pickup email at 7:29am. I'm guessing the pickup email comes after the store employees actually physically check the orders, which is why it waits until the morning for a lot of us.

Now, how do I focus through work today? :D
 
I wish you could specify "device only" on this pre-order for in store thing. Is there anyway to pre-order a verizon one and then when i go to pick it up ask em to ring it up "device only"?
 
just curious....if i order tonight for pick-up tomorrow but can't go until Monday, will they hold it for me or is it only next day?

You only have the following day to collect, if you can't it would probably be better not to even apply for a reservation.

Let someone else who can get in have the chance rather than tie up a phone that you can't collect.

My store gave me up to 7 days to hold it since I already paid for it.

It's best to call your store and clarify this if you cannot get your reservations the following day.
 
I thought you cant go through checkout with more than 1 phone?

It gives you the warning that you can't buy them, but that doesn't stop you from checking available inventory. I check for all of them and if one pops up as available, that will be the one that i purchase.

Really so you don't give any credit card credentials? I never went passed the first page. Do chose set up as new customer and it wont make me create an account with Verizon first with payment info? Then I can walk in and ask for device only if they refuse I don't have to buy it technically?

Not for a 16gb, but I"m looking for a 64gb AT&T white and the closest store I've seen that has it is in Monterey...a little too far for me.
 
I was going to wait until next Thursday night, but I might try to reserve a white 16GB for the Mrs. tonight!

That is what I am figuring. I went through the complete process as a new customer. I plan on asking for the device only. I am in a time crunch so either way I will still buy it.

Did you try Georgetown Apple Store... I got the same model on Wednesday.
 
Regarding walk-ins: my sense is that no one at Apple knows the policy about walk-ins buying an iPhone. Most of the stores that I called stated that any shipments that they get, they are all for online reservations with instore pickup. Some stores stated that they do set aside a few from each new shipment for walk-in buyers, first come first served in the truest sense of the word. Some of those stores say different things different days. And some of the same employees, if I recognize their voice, have said different things on different days.
No one has accountability at Apple. They're still telling us that full price phones are locked. They are blatantly not.

Best course of action is to reserve online and then when you go to pickup in the morning, try to convert it to a device-only, full price sale. If they don't allow you to do that, then what are they going to do? They'll have an iphone in-hand for sale, and why shouldn't I be able to buy it outright. The chances of this succeeding are higher than lining up, in vain, outside an Apple store every morning.
 
Well after a week of trying I successfully reserved a white 16 GB AT&T iphone in Austin today. Man was I excited until I got to the store and saw the line.

...Waited an almost 2 hours with my personal pickup in hand and finally got my phone. I asked why the line was so long. Apparently they still have 50 iPhone 5's available for walk-ins and I had to stand in line with these folks. In the end, I got a phone weeks before if I had pre-ordered online this week, but compared to last year when I reserved my 4S and had a specific appointment, this process was terrible.
 
When I picked up my order I couldn't purchase it as device only. I went ahead and purchased it anyway and going to see if I can return it and purchase at full price. Was anybody else able to purchase their phone as a device only when reserving online?
 
did you receive the "pick up" email for the 09:00hrs order yet?

I never did receive an email for the first reservation only the second one. The system doesn't seem to allocate on a first reservation basis. They are allocated by the computer. My advice is try multiple reservations at different times throughout the day. I didn't receive the email confirmation until almost midnight nearly 3 after they say you will receive notification.
 
Update: I contacted Apple and they said I could return it to the store and then repurchase at full price. I'll just need to check with Verizon to make sure there is no contract. I probably should have just cancelled my order at the store but I wanted to make sure I walked out with an iPhone in hand.
