Got mine!

Just a quick hint to get your phone when using Apple's online order after 10pm thingy -
  • Check every store in the list and keep click the "Locate" button next to where you type your zipcode into the popup box.
  • Start trying to checkout at 9:40pm - That is when I've seen the most success.
  • Use Google Chrome or some other browser that stores credit card info as the time it takes to type in your info could lose your phone to someone else! Speed is what counts once you finally have one!

I was told by Galleria, if you don't reserve it online, there is NO chance of getting anything in store.

Yep - I am an ex-employee and that's true. They don't even have access to phones until the become "unconstrained"

So I'm a bit confused by the personal pickup deal...

I was under the impression that by 10pm local time, when you can order an iPhone for personal pickup, that it will show up as "In Stock" if there will be a shipment of those phones to your local store. If there is not a planned shipment for that particular phone, then it will show up as "Unavailable for Pickup". The key part here being that the availability is based on the next day's scheduled shipment.

At least, that's the way I understood it...

I've tried reserving a 16GB Verizon model the past 2 nights to no avail. Each time, the following day I'd go by the store (since it's very near my work) just to check if I could get lucky. Each time the people at the store said that they had some earlier, but are now sold out. This confused me since I was not able to reserve one for personal pickup.

The second time (today) I questioned them about this. I was expecting to hear that I just wasn't "fast enough" on the online reservation (never mind that I started ordering at 10pm, and was told "Unavailable for Pickup" by 10:02pm). However, I was told the models that are "In Stock" and available for personal pickup the next day are actually the leftover phones that did not sell from that day.

So with this I asked, "So my best chance for getting a phone would be to show up first thing in the morning and wait?" The answer was essentially, yes.

So... which one is it? Are the phones that are "In Stock" those that will be delivered the next day? Or, are they the "Leftovers" from that day's in-store sales?

Wow, actually got a 16gb White one for AT&T in Lyndhurst, Ohio.

Didn't show "In Stock" until 10:00 even.

Yay for the hour drive tomorrow, haha. No where near me even got stock since launch. =/

Am guessing it's for Sprint. :p

Jk Congrats!

Yeah, RS salesmen are even more annoying than the guys at Best Buys, they will you buy to / won't stop selling insurance on their stuffs. Every time they do that stunt, I was like no thanks, bye. :D

it's actually ATT :)

Is this Galleria Mall in Ft. Lauderdale? Because i talked to an Apple Employee there today and she told me that there are about 20 people in line every morning waiting, and they give out a few each morning to the non-reserved,.

Boston!

Holy crap! 64GB Black AT&T phones available at the Boylston Street store in Boston. I cannot believe it! I too saw a 64 pop up for the 5th Ave store in NYC.

I believe it is both, but reservations this year are different from last year in that you actually have to have payment ready and in the system before you reserve, so the reserve is held for 7 days instead of 1 day. It does mean it will take longer for those reserve phones to be available for walk-ins. Last year, if you didn't get your phone by 6pm, your reserve was forfeited and up for grabs.

Good question!

I believe that some of the confusion about phones being available for walk-in customers who didn't have any reservation is due to security.

That is, Apple probably wants to prevent crazy long lines from forming every day and causing a headache for surrounding businesses.

Apple definitely does not need any publicity; if anything they want to decrease demand at local stores. They already sell every single iphone that they make, many times before it's even arrived. Why alienate customers who wait in line for nothing?

But Apple actually likely does keep some in-store stock because people always walk-in and buy iPhones anyway, no matter how many ways Apple discourages the practice.

They probably also keep some for exchanges. There's nothing worse than having a non-working or broken phone and not being able to replace it.

one down, one to go!

Scored the wife a 16GB white/silver!
next week I'll try for my black 32GB
AT&T
good luck to all of you!

got a black 32gb verizon at 5th ave NYC store. Initially wanted a 16gb black but it looks like there's no hope of getting that anytime soon so I'll take this.

Absolutely nothing in Houston (or Texas for that matter).

Maybe a 32 gigger in Austin or San Antonio, but I've been on the prowl for a 64GB black for the past several nights in Houston, with no luck whatsoever (I'm talking about ATT models).

after 3 nights, finally helped my brother scored a blk att 64 version at the 5th ave store, but it's been over an hour now-still no email confirmation for pickup.

I got one too! A 16 gb white AT&T at Willowbrook Mall in NJ. Wasn't able to get my 32 gb white on AT&T though. Looked like NYC got lots of them and then there were about 3-4 other stores between Boston and Virginia that had them but none within an hour driving distance.

Does anyone have any ideas about what availability might be like on Sunday or Monday? I'd assume that if there are no deliveries tomorrow, then there would be no new inventory for Sunday and then the same for Monday. Any idea if my assumption is correct?

Nah, you just weren't fast enough (gotta be waiting with the iPhone in your cart right at 10pm). I just scored a 32GB White AT&T model from the Memorial City store.

Damn! I want to buy 64GB Black AT&T device only in NYC but I can't do a reservation. :-(

I tried 32GB later on just to see if there was anything showing up anywhere. That's when I saw a white in San Antonio and I think a black in Austin somewhere.

However, I had no intention of getting a 32GB.

I had a black 64GB ATT model in my cart since 9:45 and started hitting LOCATE a minute or two before 10PM and got no love from Apple.
