Just an FYI I got from someone who is high up in the NYC Stores Food Chain. As far as she knows none of the stores will have Verizon iPhone 5s tonight.

Even knowing that will not stop me from trying.

She tells me that they have a lot of resellers buying up the Verizon ones when they do get it. They see many of the same people.

So not fair. There should be a limit!

feeling lucky tonight.

do you guys recommend enabling "Express checkout" in the app? I will need to confirm it before i'm charged right? I don't wanna make a mistake an accidentally purchase it via Apple.com (instead of site to store)

I recommend not enabling it ;)

There is, a daily 2 per person limit. But I remember when the 3g came out, and I was working at the Apple Store, we would get bus loads of Chinese people coming in to buy 5 of them each. And when I mean bus loads, I mean a charter bus would literally pull up in front of the mall entrance closest to the Apple Store and the bus would unload and they would make a bee line to our store. It was crazy.

Well there should be an overall limit in the first month or something. I know it sounds self-serving, but seriously...

Would it be the same if it were another race?

I know what you mean. When the 3g and 3gs there was a 5 per person per lifetime limit (with 5 replacement iPhones do to theft or damage) that the old EasyPays (pre Touch ones) would tell us if someone tried to order more than 5. But even then it was hard to enforce. Remember the directive from Infinite Loop to the stores is "Find a Way to Yes" so most of the time it was an unenforced policy.

So i guess this will mean day 5 of no iphones for verizon. Jeez when will it end -____-

Today I went to pick up my i5 at westchester mall apple store. Ask the guy nicely that I do not want to keep the new line and rather pay full price.

He went to talk to the senior Genius, i guess, and it seemed that this is a rather common occurrences recently. He agreed to it and told my Genius to finish the pick-up sale, then do a return, and resale as device only.

Now when he was about to do it, another senior guy came over and said no it can't be done because 1) it will messed up the pick-up inventory for next day and he had to personally see to it 2) this is circumventing the pick-up procedure. But he went to ask how many times has this been done today and I told him I am actually the first in the store so probably the first, and he reluctantly agreed to it.

.......

BUTTTTTTTTTT, somehow it seems that APPLE/AT&T has modified the system in such a way that once apple ring up the pick-up confirmation, they cannot do a return on the device....

so i guess long story short, the system seemed to have changed, and even if the Genius agree to do a cancel/rebuy maneuver, the system wouldn't allow it...end up having to go to AT&T at the end of this month to cancel the contract...

.....or maybe try again tomorrow. i read somewhere that you have to bring back the second day for this to work....

----------

By talking to the Genius who helped me, it seems that they have stock in everyday, but about 10-20 phones go out to the queue that is formed outside the store (each person will have a ticket) leaving nothing or rarely few for walk-ins.

This is westchester mall NYC

Keep us posted on what happens the next day with the return and your extra line AT&T you need to cancel.

Mind you this was a warning, things can always change. This note was based upon his first hand knowledge. While he is usually in the loop on these things, anything can happen. I still recommend trying to get one in the Reservation System. I only posted it as a heads up . . .

yeah im gonna still try. Did they know about jersey stores as well or does it only go for new york stores?

Goin' for Gold at 10pm here in Indianapolis as well.

I never thought it was going to be this damn hard to get an iPhone 5...

Only about the NYC Flagships . . . Don't forget there is a Store in SI, bunch in NJ and a couple on LI. And then there is WP, Greenwich, Nyack, Stamford and Danbury.

ah not so bad then. Yeah i live in s.i. so it would be nice for the s.i. one to have stock or any store for that matter. Good luck to you.

i am seeing "not eligible" for the pick up option for all white verizon models. anybody else seeing this? black models still say the same thing about inventory updating nightly at 10pm

edit: now seeing for black models too. hopefully it is just the new text prior to 10pm. will see. iphone app also says not eligible for store pickup..

yup

Don't use store pickup. I sat in the Apple Store for 4 hours today and was turned away because they didn't know why my phone wasn't activating.

it switched between "not eligible" and "inventory update 10pm"for a while. Now it just says not eligible (tested with 32GB Verizon white and black)

The apple.com/retail/iphone link still says you can order between 10 pm and 4 am for pickup.
