The credit card I used was enough if am not mistaken for the Apple guy to find my ready to pick up order - then he asked for a photo ID (though I have the confirmation email in my iP4, just in case).

The credit card should be enough. I think a lot of people are just showing up to the stores without having their orders go through and never receiving a confirmation. A paper email is better, that way you can wave it around and slam it down on the table when your throwing your fit.

Called my local Walmart. They said they have a 16gb white for Sprint. I was originally looking for a black, but after hearing about all the scuffing from the black ones I may consider getting a white.. Decisions, decisions.

DO IT! Just did the exact same thing...called my Walmart...and believe me, not a shopper of Walmart but made the exception. I just returned home with a 16g white VZW. Last one today too! Could not be happier...and their service was damn good too. A total surprise. Good luck!

Oops!! I forgot to mention that when Walmart rang up the phone for me, it rang up as $189.97 for the 16GB. No idea why but I was even happier to save an extra $10!

SCORED AT WALMART. Took the advice of others and called the local store and low and behold they had one 16g white (no scuffs/nicks- $190) VZW. Guy was so nice, held it for me as I had come back from yoga and needed to clean up....could not believe my luck too. Wasn't technically able to upgrade until this Sunday according to VZW and was losing my mind with the failed reservation system (which allowed for a week early upgrade pricing) for Apple since none ever showed up in the southwest. Long story short, I never thought I would go with the white but very optimistic that I will enjoy it. Wishing you all luck in getting your phones!!! :) :apple:

Well i tried every night since the first reservation night for a 32 gb black verizon iphone 5 but the closest one in stock was one night last week there was one in Bethesda, MD. After seeing the posts today from the nc people I called the four walmart stores in my immediate area and was told that none of the walmart stores my area carry the iphone 5 in store but I could order one and select ship to home option. I then called every retail store that sells an iphone 5 from eastern Greensboro, NC to western Durham, NC and no stores had any stock of black 32 gb verizon iphone 5. I finally broke down and went to the verizon store and ordered one with a ship by date of 10/26.

I did call the apple store at Southpoint mall in Durham, NC and the guy said tomorrow they were expecting a large shipment of various iphone 5 models for Saturday night's reservations. So people in central NC, Saturday night reservation/Sunday morning walk-in might be the best time since the reservation system launched to get an iphone 5. He also said that store does not receive shipments on Sundays and Mondays so if nothing pops up Saturday night it will be Tuesday night before any more potential phones show up in stock.

Read an earlier post that Walmart had phones. Took a chance and called and two of my local Walmarts in NC each had a couple of 16gb for Verizon. Just got back from picking on up. They will not hold them if you call. You must be the main person on your account and have photo id and additional id. Also, they said I had to switch to the Share Everything plan as that is the only plan their system has to choose from. So, there are restrictions, but they do have some phones if you can deal with the account issues.

This is what I did and was able to score a 16gb white i5 for verizon! Thanks for the help :D

called over 6 different Walmarts none of them had any iPhones (don't even live in a big area) :\

Bummer, this means the supply issue isn't going to be addressed anytime soon.

Foxconn Workers on Strike Over iPhone 5 Demands, Labor Group Says

That strike won't effect supply for a couple of weeks. We may see a gap in a couple of weeks but for now there is already phones on the way to the US and other places. And for all we know this isn't the only factory making the iPhone 5 for Apple. This just may lessen the supply.

Right now it doesn't appear the problem is a complete lack of phones. I have seen every night AT&T phones being available in New York City and I also know they have been available for the past several days at the Albany Crossgate store.

What there has been a lack of is the Verizon and Sprint ones and this makes complete sense. I bet if Apple released the number of specific iPhones on specific carriers, the majority of iPhones are probably on the AT&T network and it just makes sense to divert the most supply to the carrier with the most users of your device.

We will just have to keep trying to get one. Hopefully there will be some Verizon units in the near future seeing as there have not been any available for the past week. But remember the Verizon version seems to be very popular for resellers as it is unlocked and can basically be used on any carrier.

Good luck to everyone on trying to get an iPhone 5 tonight and the next. I will be with you trying to get one myself!

I agree, AT&T seems to be in plentiful supply but I've had no luck trying to get a Verizon phone since Sunday night. Trying again tonight !

Pretty sure they get the shipment sometime through the day and do nothing with it until they close. Then they update the stock in the computer and we reserve them at 10pm. When they get back in the morning they look at the reservations and put stickers on the boxes with the person's name who reserved it and send out the email saying it's ready for pickup.

That would make sense. didn't really think it could be the shipment from the day before.

Yeah, how else would it be. They can't sell what they are getting in for the day the night before because shipments are always there before noon and then if its a big shipment, it can take the ICS (inventory person) all day to process a shipment. I know up where I worked all of the stuff came from a warehouse in PA and was delivered by a freight company from Newark. Then on top of that we would get FedEx shipments of product and Service Stock. So the ICSs have a busy job so there would be no way for them to do it unless they hold them over.

We would always rip on the ICS at our store for doing nothing at times, they did work alot when the shipments came in. Its not easy to unpack and process 3 or 4 pallets of product and make sure you got everything in you were supposed to AND on top of them run inventory out to the specialist selling it. they're were times that they wouldn't be done processing incoming inventory until 6 or 7 in the evening.

From the "When was your iPhone made" thread it is apparent there are at least 4 factories producing the iPhone 5.

DN, F1, F2, C3.

DN is Foxconn, the others seem to be unknown.

here we are again. trying to replace my stolen phone (Verizon 32GB). yup... stolen a couple days after I got it :( it just actually "checked in" an hour ago but not long enough to locate the "finder". (stolen last weekend).

Did you do a remote lock on the phone so the person can't use it at least?

yup. and a popup message offering a reward, police report filed, but I still leave it active until the new one arrives so I can track it. So far, it has been off for the most part. Only turned on for very short times. But then again, they couldn't charge it anyway as the lightning connector / USB cable isn't exactly available either.

link to check inventory just became available briefly, but no inventory yet (32GB VZW)

Good idea. Remote Wipe makes it so you can't track it. Hopefully in the very least you can have whoever stole it arrested.

Also a little tip. If you used an AmEx for the purchase, you may be able to get credited for the phone purchase price. They over some great protections for electronics purchases.

yup. did that and they already approved the refund. Still out of about $400 because the replacement will be off-contract.

Riddle me this.....
How is it that every night at 10pm local time, all the Apple stores (or some) magically get in a batch of iPhones? Yet there are people who have been waiting weeks to get their phone they ordered??

Seems to me Apple should be fulfilling those orders before making phones available each night. They claim to be on backorder however phones show up at the stores daily.... hmmmm
