So yes, it doesn't look that great when you really push the edge to edge design to the limits as I did in that first one. Again, if anyone could pull it off aesthetically it's Apple.. but it just doesn't feel right in the current iPhone 4 design.

HOWEVER.. if you don't go all the way with it, I think it still works.

Look, apple IS going to extend the iPhone line like they did with the iPods. I for one have my fingers crossed for a 4inch screen iPhone. I don't want it to get bigger though, and I think apple can pull that off AND make it beautiful. It just won't look very similar to the iPhone 4 imo.

As far as the edge to edge screen design making the iPhone more fragile I call BS. The thing is already 2 slabs of glass.. the screen tech is behind the glass and it will remain there, just less bezel around it.

now THAT would work!

Me too.

I still think that we have seen the last of the Home Button with the new swipes found in the iPad iOS.

it looks awesome!!!

do you think there is enough room for two/three finger gestures on that screen... I hope so!

I love how everyone entirely bypasses my last post, taking bits of it here and there and creating a post of their own. My post was by far the most speculative of the bunch, drawing connections and pulling from past rumors on the site, and I find it hard to believe that no one has quoted it to voice their opinions on what I said.

Edge to edge (mockups) look ugly IMO. There needs to be some sort of border. I'd be in favor of a slightly larger phone with a diminished border.

Nope, nope, nope. These mockups have no imagination and no place in reality.

That mini is pointless and not what Apple would do, the "5" looks like utter garbage.

Johnny Ive must roll his eyes at these 18 seconds in photoshop jobs.

"This image tries to look like a "spy" shot, but we believe is just another creative mockup."

I wonder how long it took them to decide on this wording, rather than their preferred:

"This image tries to look like a "spy" shot, but it's utter *****."

I guess I am the only one who remembers that Apple has a patent for a behind-the-screen camera and there have been rumors that there will be no home button on future iPhones. Therefore, there will be no bezel (aka, no black strips on the top or bottom as shown in the knockups). WHEN Apple decides to do edge-to-edge, it will be done right and there will be no bezel, all screen. You will return to the home screen by pressing and holding as you do on the current 6th Gen nano (or swipe to the left). The camera will be hidden behind the display (it will be another Apple revolution), and the sound when on a call will somehow still come from the area it comes from now, although sight unseen. This will not happen in 2011, but in 2012 or 2013. Just my opinion (which I believe will come to pass as fact ;) )

I don't think the patent was for a camera behind the display, I'm pretty sure it was for a series of photosensors embedded amongst the pixels that would ultimately result in the ability to capture video.

The last mockup is gorgeous. If Apple goes to a 4" screen, that's what it should look like. Those other ones are ghastly.

Nope, Apple is not redesigning the entire phone in one year to add .3

Subtracting .3 doesn't result in the cheap market phone either. It's just a smaller iPhone that would likely cost as much or more to make.

If iPhone 5 has any screen changes (I highly doubt it) look for a full 4" and not a millimeter less, with an entire redesign to accommodate it. Not just a 4" screen slapped inside a case designed around a totally different screen.

As far as the Nano, look for an iPod Nano-like product just big enough to fit radios for calls and txt. It will be a basic device, with no App store, (like the current nano), and it will be cheap to buy ($200 / free with subsidy) , contract free with full price purchase, and unlimited calls/txt for $50 a month, limited plan at $25.

Will be great for 10 year olds getting their first phone, and the adults with no desire for technology, or spending money of phones.

It would have to be this, to completely differentiate from the iPhone market.

This imaging such advanced products for the iPhone Nano are way, waaaaay off..

Wouldn't an edge-to-edge screen design mean that it would be easier for folks to accidentally press on an edge-located screen 'button' element?

Or maybe it is just my fingers that would find it... :p

If anyone would take the time to read my posts, I explain this clearly. Have you ever used an iPod nano 6g? If so, it will be like that. There is no doubt. They are testing the waters with it. All you do to return to the home screen is press and hold with one finger for about 2 or 3 seconds and it brings you back. Alternatively, swipe to the right and it backs you out in reverse sequental from your most current page to your last, and second last, and so on until you return home. All of this is anywhere on the screen, so there is no "edge-located" home screen button or specific area. Which would be the most likely Apple solution as compared to the God-awful mockups.
