i went from a 3GS to a HTC Inspire 4G. my new phone has a 8MP camera, but i swear the camera was better on my 3GS. with the iOS 4 update it focused and took pictures a lot faster. a good picture on my phone will beat the iphone, but if you're trying to take pictures of kids while they are moving it was easier with the iphone.

but i like the huge screen and the $20 price

My wifes on Sprint, she has an Evo 4G with an 8 MP camera and she's always complaining about the poor quality pictures. It's hard to beat the iphone - any iphone when it comes to picture quality.

Uh, you must have not used the 3G. I loved my 3G (first iphone/smartphone) but that was one of the few things I wanted to see improved on it. It had a pretty crappy camera (and ironically it was the first phone I actually started regularly using the camera on).

A reference to 1984 in an Apple news thread? Well player sir. :)

Uh, I'm female. And I actually didn't mean to refer it as in the Apple commercial (I'm not that clever, that was completely accidental).

Just in response to that person's comment about how the US always has some one who is evil that we should fear (it was totally in relationship to the US, and not to Apple).

Oh, sorry. :(

Experienced same improvement in quality of picture/video with iOS 4 upgrade on my 3GS. HOWEVER now starting up camera app takes MUCH longer than it used to.

Don't forget you can tap on an area to focus your camera better, while taking photo/video.

Well according to el jobso the A4 and A5 use the same amount of battery life. (who knows when that man can bE trusted though. Still waiting on my white iPhone 4!!

Considering that the iPad 2 has less space for battery yet delivers the same battery life as the original, I think it's safe to take to the bank.

iPhone 5 leaked..?!

while watching jersey shore tonight, rhapsody aired a new commercial with a phone that seems to be a new iPhone. Ive been with iphone since the first generation and this excited me, so make your own judgement.
Thanks!

Say what?

If you don't like Apple products apps etc. just get something else.

I'm sorry are people this stupid they can't comprehend when they read it just flies over their head like it was said differently? WTF is wrong with this dysfunctional society. I said I got something else. Well I hinted it. I had 2 iPhones 3GS they were great but I decided to get something else out of curiosity. Also own a Mac Pro 2x2.8Ghz 8 Core 6GB Ram 8800GT Apple :apple:20" Cinema Display. Sold my Quicksilver G4 and have had a few iMacs great products but don't see their phones well worth getting if they're not going to step up the competition and faq they're aiming for out of redundancy.

I call fake.
I doubt Apple would stoop so low as to let their iPhone 5 be shown off in a commercial for the world's most popular trashiest show.

Whenever I see an iPhone 4 doing graphics stuff, it looks slower than my 3GS... It seems to drop more frames when scrolling and doing day-to-day OS animations. I guess because it needs to chuck around 4 times the number of pixels.

I'll be pleased with an A5 in the iPhone 5... Thanks to the 9x graphics performance it should be an amazing bit of kit.

That's an excellent argument, the improved graphics processing for such a high res display is a major plus.

I'm not sure we really need your opinion.

iPhone needs the A5 because it's not going to stay the same, so it might as well get better. Apple pushes the OS to perform right on the edge of the hardware's ability, so the slightest bit of congestion on the iPhone 4 will cause it t slow to a crawl like an iPhone 3G running 2.0. That has little to do with A5 and more to do with RAM/memory management however.

Battery life is already excellent, and A5 promises not to compromise that.

And there must be something wrong with your phone, because mine has never dropped a call, nor worn a case.

Thats not what they're saying at all. You disregard their opinion without even taking the time to properly consider it.

What is in fact being said is, the A5 chip is capable of processing more data at equal energy consumption to the A4. If the A5 were fixed at a single core variant operating at 1GHz (an increase on the A4's 800MHz) it would do so with *less* energy consumption than an A4.

Ergo, we'd have slightly better processor performance, much better graphics performance, and also better battery life.

Finally, all opinions must be heard, i don't find it helpful to tell *anyone* their opinion is unwelcome.

I also thought it was a 1984 reference .. in an apple thread .. as a reply to a comment on US scare mongering. Needless to say i was impressed by the layers of subtlety, whether intentional, or not.

Interestingly enough the iPad 2's battery is actually slightly higher capacity than the original. Minutely, but more all the same.

I remember seeing teardowns of the iPad 1 and thinking wow, look at all that wasted space .. same for the iPhone 1/3/3GS.

I imagine it's one of those situations where they don't wish to directly advertise Apple products by using an actual iPhone, yet they wish to tip their hat/create connotations.

Not necessarily correct. 2 cores is always better than 1, if 1 core can be disabled when it's not needed (thus allowing the other core to up-clock). The second core allows process migration to reduce hotspotting, and the increased die area decreases the junction temperature.

Well, it was a 1984 reference as a reply to a comment on US scare mongering :). Just, didn't think about the irony of it being in an Apple thread ;). The only subtlety I was going for was changing the name of who we were afraid of :D (That and the 1984 reference but that was a pretty obvious reference for anyone who's read the book. I loved the book, read it for a jr. high summer reading list, but it scared the crap out of me. I think it's a good idea for people to read that book).

Does the cortex A9 architecture allow for upclocking? above 1GHz?

heh, did you have to read brave new world at the same time? A classic compare and contrast?

Nah, it was just on a list of books we could choose to read for summer (they were just trying to get us to read something). I am not even sure if I had to write anything on it (I think it may have been an honor code system about saying you read it, I don't remember).
