4G-iPhone-mockup-Designed-by-Item-back.jpg

I loved this mock-up when I saw it.

While I love my iPhone 4, my iPhone 3gs felt better in my hands. I always felt the designs of the iPad (1) and iPhone 4 should have been reversed.

It cannot be aluminum as it will not work as a phone and Apple isn't going to put a plastic strip on the back of the iPhone ever again.

It has to be different than the current design in terms of external antennas as it really does need Consumer Reports seal of approval.

I think the iPhone 4 is my favorite Apple design ever and will be disappointed if it leaves. What I think is Apple will use the same design but hide the bottom metal strip beneath the glass or wrap the antennas in a permanent cover material achieving the same effect as the bumpers by eliminating possibility of bridging the antennas with a hand resulting in death grip.

I will be really sad if it looks like an iPod Touch. The iPod Touch is so dainty too, while the iPhone 4 feels like an instrument. I really don't believe Apple would let the death grip defeat the iPhone's design and will find a way to allow dual glass back and front to stay. Apple needs to keep the look but stop the death grip.

I cannot believe people really believe these aluminum back rumors. I think it's natural thinking by someone who thinks like a normal corporation, but this is Apple! Design and being unique is the business. The iPhone 4 is unique compared to every other phone in terms of design. Apple cannot go back to what was, they have to be better when the design does change. I am looking for wrapped or coated metal on the outside but same glass timeless design.

Beautiful. This is a forward-thinking design and should be the next iPhone. They can use re-enforced, scratch-resistant glass.

From some one who uses her phone more as a computer away from my computer than a phone, I don't want a curved back again. Yeah, it was more comfortable in my hand. But you know what? I don't notice until I hold a curved back iphone back to back with my iphone 4 so it wasn't really all that big of a deal. It's not annoying to hold as is, and the curved back may have felt better, but not enough for me to notice unless I am comparing the two right next to each other.

But I like being able to put my iphone 4 on a flat surface, use it without holding it, and not having it rock back and forth. And that I do notice without having to use the 3G right next to the 4 (didn't bug me when I had the 3G too much but it's definitely much nicer that it doesn't rock when I use it on a table).

One thing's for sure--no matter what it looks like, once it's released everyone will declare it a design classic. I remember how disgusted everyone was with the iPhone 4 leaked photos (seams)...until they discovered the photos were legit. Suddenly it was the most beautiful thing they'd ever seen. :)

Why don't they just reverse the design of the iPhone 4? Use an aluminum back and make the sandwiched rails out of plastic or some other radio transparent material covering the antenna that is there now. Seems like that would solve both the antenna and durability issues.

Love it. That is what the next Iphone should look like, man is that sex

I hate to say it but I really hope that Macotakara pic is not the real thing.
It is a step backwords.
IPhone 4 design is much better.
I just thought maybe it would be thinner but the same form factor for the iphone 5.

God, I hope not. The dual glass iPhone 4 is about as close to perfect as I can imagine. I have absolutely fallen in love with the feel of it.

My old iPod Touch was cold and unbelievably ugly after getting scratched up for a month in my pocket.

No flash on the back + rounded back edges = recycled iPhone 3Gs mock-up.

Also, no way they go back to a backside that wobbles on a flat surface.

Stop thinking aluminum. Start thinking liquid metal. to the naked eye they look reletively the same. but liquid metal is scratch proof. and we have yet to see where apple is gonna implement it.

while the iphone 4 is beautiful. apple has apparently had issues with the current antenna design as well as people severely complaining about how easy it is to break the glass on the iphone 4. also apple recently stated if that LTE would take a major iphone redesign in order for them to implement. so its very possible that apple is moving away from the current design.

the mock-up above with the black back is sweeet.

Antennagate aside, the iPhone 4 is work of art. It's in that same category as the iMac G4 and original iPhone as far as design goes.

A unibody aluminum iPhone 5 would be interesting. Aluminum does impair the signal and dent though. So, there are tradeoffs everywhere.

Work of art yes, Functional phone you can actually use as a phone without fear it shattering, no

i need my phone to be robust enough to live in my pocket, with my keys and change and not need a cover or parachute if i drop it occasionally, ive never put any mobile phone ive owned in a case, i dont want the extra bulk, i want to come home, take it out my pocket and dock it for the night to charge without removing a case to fit in the dock.

As for aluminium, id rather have dented (my old iphone 2G is dented to bugger and currently in my mothers possession, its kept in her bag with god knows what, again un-cased, and its in better condition than my 3GS whose plastic back is cracked to buggery , Id like the iPhone 5 to be as thin as the iPad2, and the same aluminium backing , i purposely avoided the 4 due to the glass back.

also, no edge to edge screen please, the beveled surround on the 2G 3G and 3GS offers so much drop and knock protection which the 4 doesn't have, this leads to Chipping of the glass on the 4

Sounds like you need a Blackberry or any plastic phone.

Too Bad.

I love the iPhone 4 design. I've never had any reception problems or antenna problems. I love the flat edge. It just feels more substantial. I'm not a fan of the iPhone 3G feel. I have had all them models, and the iPhone 4 is, by far, the most comfortable to hold.

With regard to durability, I don't know what people are doing with their phones. I got one of the free cases that Apple handed out, and it completely protects the phone. If I take the case off, it looks brand new. I carry my phone with me everywhere and have it in my back pocket at all times.

I'm sorry but i absolutely HATE this mockup of iPhone 5. iPhone 4 looks wayy more attractive. If this is iPhone 5, then i'll upgrade my 3G to an iPhone 4.

I think based on ergonomics, the iPhone 4 was the worst one. No bezel, sharp edges, slippery, shatter-prone, etc.

But based on pure aesthetics, iPhone 4 is the best. "Glass art." Pure precious. I like the fact the back matches the color of the front. It can be all for naught when you have to cover it up with a case though.

Beauty is subjective, of course.

I think going back to the aluminum backing is sorta "been there, done that." Not like aluminum backing on the original wasn't scratch-prone. It was and so was the bezel and Apple logo. I remember my original iPhone being completely scraped on the back.

I think iPhone is running its course in design. I say maybe within two generations is when we get another great iPhone and after that it becomes more of the same. You can only do so much with a slate/slab design. Apple will change the materials here and there and give it the annual tweaks. Personally, I am getting sick of all slab designs. You create this beautiful phone, shine it up, only to have it marred with germs and fingerprints when you do use it. And I don't believe in screen protectors either. I miss the old school stylus/resistive screens/buttons. I may have to go back to old school phones from 2008 to get more options in controls other than just using our fingers.
