Launching of iPhone 5

When it gets here, it gets here, all I know is that my iPhone 3G is in need of replacement soon, have dust under the glass now

I think some people are forgetting other elements are involved with the creation of a phone model. Sure, Design has a lot to do with it, as does the supply of parts.

But Apple isn't just some backstreet hack knocking up burgers, reliant on the supply of produce that will match their recipe.

The product releases are scheduled. In the consumer electronics business, the technology needs to progress rapidly, rolling old products into obsoleteness.

Deals related to parts would be in place more than months ahead. Chances are, the iPhone 5 was already beginning testing before the iPhone 4 was released.

Which means, even at prototype level or pre-production sample, the components would have been available long beforehand. You think they knock off 5 million iPhones between announcement date, and release date with complete faith in shipping schedules?

Deals relating to the supply of these parts are made long in advance. Manufacture for the iPhone 5 would have already been getting ramped up, and the need to have the new product available at, or around the existing schedule would be vital. And they wouldn't be taking chances. It's crucial in the IT industry.

+1. I can't watch one of Apples keynotes without thinking how hard it must be to get so excited and passionate about a product which has more than likely been kicking around the office for a couple of years.

The ability Steve has to be so convincingly in telling us that this product is magical and revolutionary when he knows exactly what's coming up in the next couple of years, and how bad this device is in comparison. I find it very immpessive.

My 3G is perfectly fine for me right now. Yeah, its a bit slower than my friends iP4 but still does what it needs to! Gotta love 3.1.3! :D

End of June makes sense... but it does not make sense that they would not announce (as they have before) at the WDC? But, maybe focus on SW at the WDC makes sense to build value to the new iOS5 and Lion? Might mean that iOS5 is more significant than we expect to deserve such a spotlight?

+1... You are completely right and it amazes me that this concept escapes some people.

The plans for supply of parts are made long time in advance and alternate plans are also made in case of unexpected events.

And I don't think Apple is the type of company to feel pressured by history, i.e. "we've been releasing a new product every year, so we HAVE to release a new product every year." More like John Carmack, "It'll be ready when it's ready," because people will still buy Apple and not enough would defect to hurt Apple's bottom line.

Doesn't that pretty much describe iterative and incremental product development, and isn't that Apple? :D

If a component (hardware or software) isn't ready in time, drop it for the next version...........

I hate to rain on your parade, folks.

No thanks to the recent earthquake in Japan, I think it's VERY possible Apple will delay the retail arrival of the iPhone 5 because several critical parts that come from Japan for the new iPhone 5 are not longer available due to electronics and electronics parts factories in the Sendai area not operating due to earthquake/tsunami damage and lack of power in the area. I wouldn't be surprised right now that Apple is scrambling to get alternative parts suppliers. As such, the early fall release date of the iPhone now makes more sense. Also, by early fall Apple will have lined up new suppliers to make all the parts for the iPhone 5.

It also means Apple will be under less pressure to get iOS 5.0 out the door; Apple will have maybe two more months of development time to "polish" iOS 5.0 so it will be a great operating system. :)

They didn't do the midseason memory bump for the 3Gs either, but they did do the Verizon iPhone so this could happen just to keep their AT&T customers around for more. I myself have been looking at android now more that I have an iPad to give me my apps for iOS... I could live without an iPhone now.

um, yeah, 'cause the 3gs was the midseason bump, if you will...

frankly i don't see them coming out with a new model this summer. they haven't even done their usual mid-cycle hd bump.

What do you mean by "usual mid-cycle bump"? They've done that ONE TIME, and one time only, with the original iPhone.

2G launched at 4/8 GB. The 4GB was dropped just 3 months later, and the 16GB was added in February. This is the only mid-cycle capacity increase in the entire product history.

3G launched at 8/16, with the 16GB being discontinued one year later, and the 8GB continuing for another year.

3GS launched at 16/32, and both models were discontinued in favor of an 8GB one year later.

4 also launched at 16/32, and will remain there until June. What happens then is anyone's guess, mine being retention of the 16GB if the 5 is 32/64, or introduction of an 8GB if the 5 remains at 16/32.

So we have 3 examples of no bump, and one example of a bump--the exception is somehow "the usual"?

In other words: "Maybe."
Maybe it will be released at the end of June.

That's a DEFINITE Maybe !

More importantly will it come in white (wah) and
how long will it take for Android to copy it?

I hear it has triple Retina, with multiple message bounce back.

Dual ply throttlers for Wifi Boosting and Thunderbolt Flash marking!

Now top that Android!

I'm certain that there will be an iPhone in June, why wouldn't there be...

Isn't iOS 5 going to be optimised for the new iPhone so that it can take advantage of the new hardware?

this doesn't contradict loop insight at all.

they said no iPhone 5 at WWDC. This is saying iPhone 5 is coming shortly after WWDC.

I could be 100% wrong but didn't Loop Insight quote the source as saying that they weren't stupid and they wouldn't be releasing a new iPhone so soon after the release of the Verizon iPhone?

EDIT: I can't find it, so maybe I am nuts.

As much as I wish all this to be true, Koreans know absolutely NOTHING about Apple products. The Korean media is also very biased towards Samsung.

Don't know about Loop Insight, but this doesn't make sense. The Verizon Phone is still just an iPhone 4 and that technology is nearly a year old now and ready for its yearly update. The VZN phone has no impact on when the next version will be released.

Problems in the supply chain will be the biggest issue...

The Iphone 5 will come this summer. A new Iphone always does. Fall is for Ipods. Spring is for Ipads. There is enough space for apple do it all.

I never understood why people give a "Negative" to articles like these. What can be Negative about them announcing a new product. It's not like you are on DroidRumors or a general phone website where other users can show their dislike towards the iPhone.

Maybe some of you who recently just purchased an iPhone 4 are just having a bit of buyer's remorse? Don't be such losers.

What I can't wrap my head around is the sheer gullibility of not only the authors of this site, but so many of the frequent readers.

Do any of you possess short term memory? At all?

What has happened for the last 4 years in a row? With no lapse, no change, no variation whatsoever. iPhone is released in mid to late June. Once July.

What was it, before the iPad 2 announcement, that every one was certain of? iPad 2 will be late. No new iPad til September.

Apple laughed at that and said, actually were ready to go next week.

You'd have to be pretty deluded, and cracked out on the rumor mill, to think any other other iPhone 5 @ WWDC, release 2-3 weeks after.

What evidence has anyone seen to the contrary? Besides ****ing zero?

what would be the big differences with the current iphone?

based on the rumors i saw, the updated version will only show incremental borderline irrelevant improvements?

am I missing something?

Bolded these for the sheer hilarity.

Yeah, reality, that's what you're missing. Not the same as rumorz

What I'll never understand is why you believe some rag rumor, over the fundamentals of common sense. And you push it as if this most "controversial"
rumor is actually what's most likely to happen in the real world.

Or is generating traffic from buzz words all you really care about?
