ugh

I'm kinda tired of all these rumors & speculations. Why would Apple make a mini-iPhone or change the screen size? All the app developers would have to accommodate.

It's much more plausible that they develop the near-field technology, expand space, better camera, CDMA/GSM hybrid, faster processor, like they've done every time in the past.

Personally I'd like to see a temperature sensor and pressure sensor, since the Android OS allows this kind of stuff but has yet to be built into phones.

Introducing the new iPhone lineup:
One that's too big to fit in your pocket and has a *wonderful* slide out keyboard
Another that's too small to use practically and has absolutely no storage

We hope you enjoy!

Let's just put out every possible rumor about the next iPhone. One of them has to come true! ...

agreed,

No we have a rumor of an iPhone that is/has :
-1/3 the size of the iPhone 4
-1/2 the size of the iPhone 4
-iPhone with a slide out keyboard
-an iPhone that is like going from the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS (meaning no big change)
-Larger screen

now they all just seem to be a shot in the dark.

All these rumours certainly make it seem as if Apple is trying to flush out some leaks.

If they do decide to use a larger screen I doubt it'd be in the format that the Galaxy S has. If anything, they'd likely keep the width pretty much the same but increase the height of the screen so as to make it closer to a 16:9 or 16:10 ratio when held sideways.

I could imagine a future iPhone having a 1024x640 4" display with a smaller (or no) home button. Apps designed for the current retina display could simply be letterboxed, no biggie.

I'm sure Apple engineers are smart enough to make this work without MacHeads getting all worked up about resolution, scaling of apps etc.

In fact 4.3" is the Standard Size, even Samsung is enlarging their Galaxy S II from last years 4.0" to the current standard of 4.3". Therefore it would be appropriate for Apple to also migrate to 4.3".

Unfortunately I doubt Steve Jobs ego will allow it since it wasn't an Apple first trend.

As much as I really like my Apple devices, they could be even better if the sole focus of Jobs was to build the best products ever.

Instead he makes the claim Apple does, backing it up with near fraudulent claims & hype.

If Apple would relax, let go of their fear & paranoia of Google, Adobe, & anyone else that Jobs hates, Apples products _would_ be really awesome and even more profitable.

Look how much they are selling! Look at the massive profits! Just think of the potential if 100% of their focus was on doing their best, instead of sticking their nose in others business.

If Apple would drop the attitude, their products would really be world class.

3.5 or 4 inch, don't care either way. I just hope the Verizon iPhone 5 is a CDMA/GSM hybrid so I can roam overseas with it. Otherwise, getting a Blackberry.

Im all for it, and I love big screens on phones (droid x 4.3" screen :D) but this shows that steve jobs is kind of a douche. Anyone remember him saying "who would want those giant android phones anyway?"..

And where did you read that that bigger screen would also result in a bigger iPhone? There's enough space at the 4 sides to remove...

Yes I think it's about time the iPhone changes its screen size to a larger one.
I see Apple doing this next for sure.

Haha!
But in all seriousness, i think we can forget about the slide out keyboard, Apple would never do something so stupid.
4" screen? That's great as long as the phone size remains the same.
I'd prefer a 3.7" instead.

Smaller iPhone? that rumor is still a possibility. Half the size? I don't think so.
What i'm speculating is this..
Will there by a 4" iPhone and a 3.5" (edge to edge screen) phone? Will they be the bigger and smaller versions? That's a possibility as well.

If any of these rampant rumors are true, I would think iOS would have to develop some sort of resolution independence to work across so many different screen sizes. ...edited..."

It already does. That's how things look the same on the original screen and the retina display at twice the res... When programming for iOS, you now use points instead of pixels, and images etc. automatically get scaled up unless you provide the 2x res resources...

I think we have cracked the puzzle here:

iphone 5 will have a much smaller bezel(edge to edge), home button moved to the side or bottom or gone, it will then have a 4inch screen to have more room for multitasking gestures. it will have the same 960x640 resolution, can some calculate that ppi, it would be about 300 right?

iphone nano: will be thinner and have cheaper hardware(like the ipod touch) it will have a 3.5inch display, maybe 3.3inch at the smallest, but prolly 3.5. it will also have a much smaller bezel and it will have the same 960x640

developers won't really have to care, because they will still write apps at the same resolution and software, only .5inch less room, but wont make much a difference. first I thought iphone nano, will have to have cheaper cpu, gpu, ram, but they made the ipod touch cost $200/$229, if they cut back on storage and cameras they can make it $200 but still making apps universal on iphone nano and iphone 5.

I predict iphone 5 will be called iphone 4inch.

So we have:
iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4inch, iPhone 4G

and also ....., iPhone nano, iPhone nano 2nd gen?

A bigger screen would be fine if they manage to do it without making the iPhone much/any bigger. In general, though, I'd take the iPhone's high-res 3.5" display over the various Android low-res 4.3" displays any day of the week.

don't you think it's odd to have those random rumors appear in short term of time? APPLE MUST BE BEHIND THIS MADNESS!

That's what i think too.
Think about it guys, if the new iPhone 5 with a 4" screen becomes the norm, then the 3.5" will look much smaller, and could be the 'nano'. (considering the bezels are drastically reduced)

i think the iphone 4 is the perfect size!! and they just made it smaller. why would they suddenly go backwards and make it bigger?

It's this type of thinking that will catch up to Apple and reduce it to a niche gadget.

Oh look Mary, isn't that a cute little phone?

The ladies will love it. Such a darling trinket.

I would LOVE a bigger screen!! but I don't know if i want a bigger device like the droids.

But what I really really want in the iPhone 5 is 4G LTE for Verizon! 4G LTE Droid phones are already scheduled to be coming out. Apple better hurry up on the 4G plans!! please
