I'd say they'd name it the iPhone 4L. iPhone 4X makes more sense but I doubt they'd want something so derivative of the Droid X.

I suppose they could abandon the numbering for a go and name it the iPhone XL, but that doesn't sound very Apple. And iPhone 4i is one too many i's, I think.

Is iPhone 4" too cute? I could maybe see that as the actual name. Ripe for confusion though.

OT but I've owned an iphone4 and a samsung galaxy s and the galaxy s screen is the best screen I've ever seen. The galaxy s2 is apparently even better with super amoled plus screen. I hope the iphone5 has a screen that can rival that.

Either Apple getting hotter or just another rumors (yet!)...

Forget all you know about small phones and retina!

The new iPhone 5 will have a 1280x800px display and will be 54"!

Anybody hear anything about the next iPhone having a slot to insert a slice of bread and having it make toast? Those familiar with the matter are starting to leak this information to me. Supposedly it will make toast, but you will need to provide your own butter or jam. However, if you sign up for MobileMe, Apple will provide a service to automatically charge your iTunes account for butter or jam and have it shipped to your current location.

What's next? Mac Rumors, please stop bothering with any more iPhone rumors until you have photos of actual parts being used to build the thing. This is really getting ridiculous with the flood of misinformation coming from Apple.

Personally I like the 3.5 inch touch screen. I've used a Windows Phone 7's 4.3 inch screen and it was a bit clunky and large. If :apple: keeps the 3.5 inch along with the 4.3 inch and have a choice I would be happy.

Just love the 3.5 inch screen on my VZW iPhone, loved it on my 1st generation iPod touch to.

It's this type of thinking that will catch up to Apple and reduce it to a niche gadget.

Oh look Mary, isn't that a cute little phone?

The ladies will love it. Such a darling trinket.

You mean like that nice little niche market Apple carved out with their iPod business by continously shrinking size? Yea that type of thinking totally backfired on them. ;)

Deliberate Misinformation by Apple

About Digitimes, we all know Apple is in tighter control of the information leaked into the public domain than it is given credit for.

Part of good rumors control is the deliberate dissemination of false rumors among the planned accurate leaks. So, it's to be expected that our trusted rumor sources will get bad leaks as well as good ones. It's all part of the fun!

There's no reason a 4-inch display couldn't fit in a device the same dimensions as the curent iPhone. In fact, if my math is correct, a 4-inch screen at 16:9 adds nearly exactly enough vertical space to include an extra row of app icons on the home screen.

Probably will happen down the line at some point.

Like I said before Apple leaking all these rumors because of the WMC. I would love to see a 4 inch iPhone screen on the next iPhone but IMO its not going to happen because Apple just upgraded the iPhone 4 display I think well have to wait until 2012 to see a 4 inch screen

Killing myself laughing over here at the suggestion to name it the iPhone 4i.

Eye for an eye...

yeah its nice to see the rumors, but between the new previous VZ iphone coming out rumors and new iP5 its just been overkill these past few months on MR's.. Think I'm about to start waiting till say memorial day weekend to start catching up with the rumor threads, just before WWDC... All speculation, but its all good fun:D

LOL... i'll take a 4" screen tho, just dont want the current size to change too much in terms of the over all device. i picked up and carried my cousins droid x around for a little, felt like a dell streek in my pocket.. dont wanna see that happen... but i doubt :apple: will go that far..

because 1.27cm (0.5 inches) is really that big of a difference... c'mon people
If you're watching a widescreen movie it would allow a larger display as there would be less letterboxing of the picture compared to the current iPhone screen. It might even allow an extra row of app icons.

Make sense to me. It will need room for bigger storage, battery, world chip, sim card, and more memory. Verizon iPhone didn't have a sim card holder. Plus, a bigger screen makes it easier to read on and better gaming, too. Sure, you may lose some resolution, but it will not be significant.

A bigger screen would be fine if they manage to do it without making the iPhone much/any bigger. In general, though, I'd take the iPhone's high-res 3.5" display over the various Android low-res 4.3" displays any day of the week.

While I think a smaller, less expensive iPhone is a good idea for Apple I'm not convinced a 4" iPhone is really much different than a 3.5" one.

A much bigger one, say 5.5 inches, does make sense as an information appliance for those of us who have difficulty reading without glasses. Use the same 640x960 resolution for compatibility because we won't be able to discern individual pixels anyway. Minimize the bezels and you can fit the screen into a device just 3.33" wide and 5.5" high. I think of it as the go everywhere device for baby boomers, a not insignificant target market.

Much more reasonable than a lot of the rumors we've been seeing lately.

I think this one is almost a given. They have to do it to stay out in front of Android.

Funny, kept hearing about how people didn't like the size of the iPhone and now we have bigger and smaller rumors. Hmmm.

Also have heard many Android fans complain about the size of the iPhone - that is until they got their 4" (or more) Android phone. So either they were jealous and really don't mind bigger screens and what I think is a decent size phone or the BOGO was too good to pass up.

Umm, wouldn't this screw up the 320x480/640x960 resolution meaning every app would have to be redone?

I'm sure Apple engineers are smart enough to make this work without MacHeads getting all worked up about resolution, scaling of apps etc.

In fact 4.3" is the Standard Size, even Samsung is enlarging their Galaxy S II from last years 4.0" to the current standard of 4.3". Therefore it would be appropriate for Apple to also migrate to 4.3".

Unfortunately I doubt Steve Jobs ego will allow it since it wasn't an Apple first trend.

As much as I really like my Apple devices, they could be even better if the sole focus of Jobs was to build the best products ever.

Instead he makes the claim Apple does, backing it up with near fraudulent claims & hype.

If Apple would relax, let go of their fear & paranoia of Google, Adobe, & anyone else that Jobs hates, Apples products _would_ be really awesome and even more profitable.

Look how much they are selling! Look at the massive profits! Just think of the potential if 100% of their focus was on doing their best, instead of sticking their nose in others business.

If Apple would drop the attitude, their products would really be world class.

wow, on what basis do you spew your opionions? I have owned every version of the iPhone and have watched every phone/smartphone fail their owners! today a local Batista had his HTC EVO giving him fits because it was using the speakerphone to answer or make calls no matter what his settings were. he did not know if he could sync everything to a computer and he had NO IDEA WHEN HIS PHONE WOULD GET UPDATED because it was "automatic". I cannot imagine not having the clean and efficient "ecosystem" that is the Mac/Apple. Job's guidance and vision is driven by the desire for high quality hardware partnered with tightly integrated software-end result=it all works! I hate to say it, but wake up and smell the coffee (ok, espresso/Monster, whatever!)

I would love for the iPhone to switch to a 4'' screen.

However, with all of these rumors of different types of iPhones Apple is said to be developing, I am starting to wonder if Apple is starting to deliberately seed false information to different sources (a la Asteroid) in order to find leaks. EDIT: I should read the thread first, I guess Spanky Deluxe said this before me!

Isn't it becoming more obvious. The new phone won't have a Home button and the area for the front camera and earpiece will be much shorter. That way the phone can be smaller and the screen can be bigger. Allowing for "swipe to Home" capabilities or multiple-touch to app switch.

The new slightly smaller phone may be the new iPhone.

I sincerely hope that they do not get rid of the home button. Without it we would loose the the ability to easily screen grab, get out of a crashed app, reset phone and orientate the phone in dark. They will not dump it. As fro screen size, rekon it's perfect now, I don't want a bigger lump in my pocket. As far as screen res is concerned, if they keep same aspect ratio I think current retina res will stretch to 4" without to much loss of quality.

So, what you're saying is "despite the fact that Apple has been the most successful company in the world by a few different metrics over the last several years, their business model is obviously flawed and it is clear they would be doing much better if they abandoned their business model in favor of mine." I think I captured your meaning there pretty well, amirite?
