I'm kinda tired of all these rumors & speculations. Why would Apple make a mini-iPhone or change the screen size? All the app developers would have to accommodate.

It's much more plausible that they develop the near-field technology, expand space, better camera, CDMA/GSM hybrid, faster processor, like they've done every time in the past.

Personally I'd like to see a temperature sensor and pressure sensor, since the Android OS allows this kind of stuff but has yet to be built into phones.

which tempurature, your hand your pocket, the processor? a thermometer on a device that generates it's own heat is kinda difficult unless you wanna hang around for ages whilst the isolated sensor attains the ambient temp whilst your tryin to hold the thing.

Next iPhone 5:

It will have a 4 inch screen, however, it will magically feel smaller in your hand. It will also feel lighter because there would be no on board memory even with the slide out keyboard.

Can't wait!

I agree with you except for the slide out keyboard part... I don't think Apple will go for that..

However, have you held a Samsung Fascinate? Bigger screen, and it's SO light! It's insane.

But I don't think Apple will ever go back to plastic :D

As an iPhone user, this sounds cool.

As an app developer, the idea of them switching aspect ratios sounds like a nightmare. So much will break if they do this.

because 1.27cm (0.5 inches) is really that big of a difference... c'mon people
Going from 3.5" to 4" actually means a screen that is 30% bigger, Going to 4.3" is a 50% increase, Assuming the aspect ration stays the same.
With the other rumor of an iPhone nano could we see two versions of the iPhone 5, one with a larger screen than the iPhone 4 at 4" and one with a smaller screen may be 3"?

Then again this 4" iPhone may be just another fact rumor from Apple in an attempt to discover any leaker form within.

I sincerely hope that they do not get rid of the home button. Without it we would loose the the ability to easily screen grab, get out of a crashed app, reset phone and orientate the phone in dark. They will not dump it. As fro screen size, rekon it's perfect now, I don't want a bigger lump in my pocket. As far as screen res is concerned, if they keep same aspect ratio I think current retina res will stretch to 4" without to much loss of quality.

who says screen grab cant be power and one of the volume buttons. if home button does go away every thing you mentioned will be done with home and volume buttons. no big deal at all.

This further supports my theory of a line of iphones..Small medium and large. 3 iPhones this June baby! Or at least 2.

Oh I hope so!!!!!!

Apple- do this! Heck, if this is the only upgrade (I know it isn't) it will still be worth it!

And use the remaining 3.5" screens for the iPhone nano or whatever... :D

If this is true it would have to have the same resolution, anyone who isn't lazy like me to figure out what that what put the ppi at?

Resolution is ppi.

I think it would have the same resolution (ppi) but add more lines (eliminating the home button). More likely it doesn't see the light of day.

I'm gonna take a guess and assume that this year will be about a dual core CPU / larger capacity / better cameras / slightly better battery life. Maybe a software feature not available on the 4.

A total redesign? Doubtful. Apple spends a lot of money designing the phone. To do so every year wouldn't make sense from a business perspective, even if the prototype is available. It's pretty clear to me this year will be internal upgrades and next year will be bring a completely new design.

The iPhone Nano seems more plausible.

There is a slight possibility Apple is going to expand their iPhone lineup to offer variables of the iPhone. Apple offers size variables for every single consumer product they sell (iMac / iPod / Macbook). Eventually, whether it's this year or not, it will also be true with the iPhone.

Kinda funny how all these rumors magically (pun intended) appear after the VZW iPhone gets released.

As an iPhone user, this sounds cool.

wait- couldn't they keep exactly the same resolution and aspect ratio, just increase the size by 1/2"?

It's so much fun to post here. The population's got a hilarious sense of humor. There's nothing more fun than to read the wide variety of responses.

Rampant rumors are brought to you by Apple so that it will be impossible to know which one or two are correct and which are coming out of the Apple FUD generator running full blast.

However, it would be possible to have a larger touch area if it is brought closer to the edges, AND a smaller phone if it is shortened with the removal of the home button. So, both larger and smaller can be had at the same time.

It would not be the Apple way to make a phone that is physically bigger than the last model. If there is any truth to this rumour then the iPhone may lose its Home button in order to fit a wider aspect ratio screen into the same size body. Remember, there was a rumour a month or so ago about the possible demise of the Home button.

4 inch screen testing may mean...

No more home button!
:D

The 3.4 inch screen remains as the entry level iPhone.

Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.

So say yee all.

It's so obvious

Clearly Apple is going to substitute the physical home button for a virtual space, reserved for a virtual home button or the dock.

This is what i think it will look like. The screen is (3.5/4.0 = 0,875) 87,5% of the the iPhone 4 screen.
