iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4S Video Comparison

I interpret that statement to mean that he placed the two phones back-to-front, flat against each other, and slid the one toward him over an inch or so to give its camera a clear view. This would allow him to hold them comfortably and get nearly identical views of the scene.

The image of him in the mirror is pretty difficult to see clearly, but certainly consistent with that. You would only be able to see a half-inch or so of the second phone poking out from one side, and there's no way I could pick that out in that video.

Ah... I didn't think about it that way. I thought they would stacked vertically but I see how your suggestion of them being placed back-to-front with a slight offset so as to give each camera a clear view would be easier to accomplish/hold and would give nearly identical views of the scene. If that is the case, then more than likely the video is genuine and I retract my doubts.

FYI - If you can't see the difference, you are probably not watching the video in full screen or you are watching it at less than 1080p (can be adjusted bottom right of youtube window)
When viewed full screen with 1080p, the difference is very clear. Watching the clip at 480p will not show a tangible difference between the phones.

Well, maybe the video qualities aren't too distinct from each other. But still! My iphone 5 does wonders!

If your sensor has a wider dynamic range, meaning it can retain all that detail from dark to light, that can make the images seem lower contrast when they're displayed, but because all that information is retained, you can potentially go in and increase the contrast by hand to make an image that looks nicer but retains however much detail in the shadows that you prefer.
Thanks, very interesting. Esp this one. I'm more tuned to stills than video.

LOL. Absolutely no difference to the casual consumer. This is innovation folks. Using a digital stabilizer you can find in apps in the app store. :p:p

To be fair Apple generally make a point of making any improvement look as though it's a huge improvement. That's marketing for you.

Fair enough. I guess the camera has improved leaps and bounds every year they specifically mentioned it... except this year.

Totally subjective stuff, but the iPhone 5 appears marginally better; but I await camcorder.com to do an objective, measurement based set of tests. More vivid colors may not be more accurate, for example.

Agreed. Images and Video with the rear camera on my 5 are superior in every way to my wife's 4S. Colors, and stability most notable. AF is no faster.

The new lens element configuration is superior. Sorry most in here can't notice.

Panorama also works much quicker, and looks nicer than the Galaxy 3.

It's the better algorithms in iOS. :apple:

Thanks! Everything I said applies to stills as well.

Apple mentality:
They still have stock.

Who does? AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and Apple are all out of stock right now.

It's a very nice phone. As far as standing in line, people do it for the social experience, to say they're first with a new exciting thing, etc. Yeah, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you consider the thing and the benefit someone will gain from having it (or not.)

My question is, why do you feel the need to take the people who want that experience down a notch?

Not sure how the video has such poor rolling shutter on the 4S. It does suffer from this artefact, but mine doesn't seem to be that bad.

I could definitely tell an improvement...The Iphone 5 had more clarity, detail, better color, and better image stabilization...You probably wouldn't notice using one in isolation of the other, but side by side there is a solid improvement..

The iPhone 5 clearly has more vivid colors; not washed out like the 4/4S. Image/video stabilization is vastly improved as well. The photos look crisper on the 5.

the people saying that the rear camera doesnt look any different are crazy

not only is the contrast much better with more realistic (but still nicely saturate) colors..but it also appears slightly sharper...(which would make sense since they spent a lot of time "perfectly aligning the lenses")

Totally agree. +1

The difference is tremendous! iPhone 5 is all over the 4S, which was a great smartphone camera in itself! I'm really, REALLY impressed!

Outdoors, there is higher contrast, much sharper detail, better color, good stability with panning. Indoors, macro is terrific, there less blur when moving the camera in the iPhone 5, better white balance.

And another +1... but I won't be getting one. Not in the next two months anyway.

Better color on the iPhone 6th gen, definitely. Look at the sky and the greenery if you don't catch it right away.

Really? 6 Gen? Seriously? Write it in Klingon next time and I might actually be impressed by your nerdiness. But, you're right. It certainly does look much better!

iphone 5 has a better camera but does it really has the best camera in the market of mobile phones :apple: :mad: look at the Nokia pureview 808
the mobile just looks amazing

Too those who don't see the difference I can only assume you either arn't watching in 1080p or you don't have a 1080p monitor. The differences are huge!

the improvements to the camera will seem like snake oil on the actual device. However, it is what they look like to everyone else. Watch from a computer screen or tv and you will see a much bigger difference. The most noticeable is in the low light section where the 4s has serious pixilation and distortion, but the 5 remains as crisp as daylight. Another way to see the clarity improvement read what is written on the flower petal.

Watching on a
iPhone 4- no difference except stability
iPhone 4s- small differences
iPhone 5- noticeable improvements
computer screen- big difference
HD Tv- huge difference

The difference is noticeably better! But for me I don't think the improvement is dramatic enough to warrant an upgrade from the iPhone 4S, especially at the crazy prices Apple ask for.
