It could either be:
- A camera flash
- A second camera for 3D.

It's impossible to tell what Apple'll do, as SJ does what he wants - Blu ray, Flash etc.

However, if it is a second camera for 3D (assuming the screen will be 3D - I know this sounds stupid, but this is Apple - they'll save the 3D no glasses display for iPhone 6  JK) then WWDC's iOS5 preview will be a big giveaway if the iPhone 5 will be 3D. Just like OS X Lion is obviously made for touchscreens.

Those photoshop mockups are getting more fake looking everyday.

I remember in the times when the iPhone 4 was a rumor the photoshoped images looked much more realistic.

I swear, if Apple makes the new iPhone have a screen that looks like that, all stretched and too big... :(

I suspect that if this rumor of no bezel is true the change will be mostly from the outside in. They might up the size of the screen a tiny shave (Apple is loathe to have a way off standard screen ratio) but mostly they will cut the stuff around the screen and have a physically narrow phone.

However with all the talk of putting like 18 antenna in the phone to cover ever possible carrier situation it's unlikely we'll have both scenarios. They will need that space for all that stuff.

Not if the resolution changes it wont. Developers will be pissed if they have to have a 4th set of graphics. We already have to have:

- iPhone
- iPhone Retina (double resolution gfx)
- iPad

Apple needs to settle for a single resolution and leave it alone. There is nothing whatsoever wrong with the 3Gs and iP4 resolutions.

There's also no problem with changing resolution. BlackBerry has a ton of different resolutions. iPad and iPhone have different resolutions.

They don't need to do anything. Just baseless whining. When the next iPhone comes out, it'll be good. Lets just leave it at that. Apple has never known to do anything really stupid or dumb. Even their dumb products were interesting. So why are you whining or creating fuss over nothing?

If they change their resolution to keep the DPI, then developers can easily change their UIs. It doesn't take a long time to resize your UI or to tweak it. Furthermore, Apple isn't stupid. If they're going to introduce a 3rd resolution into their family, they'll have a reason to do so.

So seriously, if the iPhone 5G does come out, I'll welcome it with open arms, finally a phone I might get (if it's on T-Mobile)

Anyone saying it's ugly, everything Apple makes is ugly until the marketing puts into our heads that it's great. Nobody likes change, and all Apple is about is change. Ugly usually means ahead of its time. I thought the Macbook Pros were ugly at the time, now they look amazingly modern, and my old MBP looks archaic.

I really, really have an iPhone 5, as you can see by this non-photoshopped (it's definately not a photoshop) image, taken by of me. I'm not lying, really. Trust me.

But, seriously, some people could easily find out: that this is a photoshop, and fake-iPhone-next-gen-photoshoppers have found that there's no point in making photoshops - you get -100 and owned.

Mainly because if you type iPhone 4 into Google images this is one of the first images you get; then all I did was increase the screen size and add some inconsistent text.

Can someone PLEASE make a Fake-Picture who knows at least a little bit about Design. The pictures so far make me sick.

Geez, I wonder if this ground breaking information came from the three guys who were trading in Apple secrets the Chinese arrested, found guilty and beheaded.

No one is claiming the iPhone depicted is anything more than a photoshop. We are looking at the case.

I know. I've already said that I think that the second hole is for a secondary camera, (for 3D) or a movement of the flash (I think the latter).

I was responding to this person:

explaining why not many people make photoshops and claim them to be true, as they always get caught. And, anyway, to add to that, this photoshop wasn't supposed to be realistic (I hope so), anyway.

Bad picture

I wonder what they used for the image. It looks like the kind of bad image I would get if I took the image with an iPad2.

The screen in the image is a screen from an iPad.

If the second hole is a second camera for 3D, where is the LED flash?

This whole thing seems completely fake.

I wonder if this fits the iPhone 5Gs that were thrown out of an 18th-floor window yesterday. :)

Look's good lets hope for the all new design IPhone 5 edge to edge screen better camera and aerial redesign, ISO5.:D

Ya, you can tell it is fake based an the att, and time

I like to see the dam grip of death go away as well as the button personally. But changing where the LED flash is makes no sense since it gets in the way of taking side pictures, hard to hold it in one hand only and take pictures.

Bigger screen would loose some of the resolution so I find that hard to see apple doing, I seen no benefit of having the screen bigger and loosing resolution or pixel density.

In the pictures it does nook nice having a little more real estate on the sides but I don't think anyone would get any benefit unless now we can have 5 icons across rather than just 4.

Having stronger glass that is harder to break will probably be something they will make sure they do next time, strong enough now but they should do more to stop those accidental drops.

Please Apple take out all the writing garbage on the back of the phone, only thing that should be there is iPhone and nothing else. I don't see other phones having all that wording on the back side why the iphone.

What are you babbling about, Beheading is in Muslim countries not China.

They hang you there.:D

So you think they are talking about the phone and not the case. Did you ever think that its that hard to do a real well done Photoshop mock-up it is. This is about the case and nothing else, stop fixating on the iPhone look means absolutely nothing.

As for the case, I can't see Apple moving away from the look of the phone we have now and no I don't need 12 MP camera to be happy with my phone. I need responsive phone with good battery life and nothing else.:D

This made up by someone who doesn't even know why it was called the "3G"..... sigh.

The first Apple product with the i prefix, the iMac, had the i start for internet. Many other products since then have had the i prefix - such as the iPod, iPhone, iPad, iBook, iLife, and iWorks - some of which, like the iPod Classic, have no internet connection.

The point is, sometimes the extra letter becomes more of a quality assurance seal, something that you associate with the Apple brand, than actually standing for something.

Having said that, I think Apple will just call the next iPhone the iPhone 5, given that the iPhone 4 had no G affixed to its name.

The second camera is a replacement for the iOS location-data gathering file. It relays your immediate location back to Apple in video form, legal loophole.

This may or may not be a lie.

It was the Wall Street Journal who first said the next iPhone would have an edge to edge screen with no bezel, not Topolskly. All he did was read the WSJ article and pretend like it was new information two months later.

I believe if Apple is really trying to improve the camera, then moving the flash away from the camera is a very wise decision. The closer the flash is to the lens, the more red eye you will get in pictures taken with a flash. Moving the flash away from the lens will also address the issue of light from the flash flaring/flooding/leaking into the lens.
